Outstanding sound from a durable box

Outstanding sound from a durable box
Outstanding sound; I use it with my iPhone 11. The combination gives me best User Interface (iPhone) and Best Sound ( the Chord Mojo). Setup is as follows: Apple Lightning Camera Connector from iPhone. The Camera connector has a USB A outlet for the input signal to the Mojo and a separate Lightning outlet for incoming recharge power. The short cable from the USB A input plugs into the right-hand side of the MOJO. The first port on the right side is the incoming signal port on the Mojo with a USB mini plug input. Next to the input line there is a USB minijack for power in. The Mojo works flawlessly with the power input cable plugged and charging the internal MOJO.batteries. The left side of the Mojo has two 1/8” mini plug outlets for headphones.

I bought the Chord Mojo after some research on the internet on how to drive my http://www.amazon.in/Sennheiser-HD-650-Over-Ear-Headphone/dp/B00018MSNI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1494613455&sr=8-2&keywords=hd+650 better.
The first thing that struck me was the size of the device. It is tinier than I imagined from all the reading about it. When I first picked it up it gave me the feeling of holding an incredible piece of technology (almost like holding an iPhone), which it is.
With its volume set less than 1/3 of capacity, it very easily drives the 300ohm hd 650 over my normal listening level. For comparison, my ipad pro 9.7 at full capacity drives it only to less than my normal listening levels. It is a very powerful amplifier packed in the tiny package.
Sound: This being my first and only dac/amp, I don't have a lot of sources to compare the mojo to, other than windows pc(Lenovo yoga), ipad pro ,iPhone 7and android phone(LG G2). I could easily perceive mojo's improvement of sound quality against windows pc and android phone. Mojo simply is more detailed and clearer, whereas the other 2 sources sounded muffled and noisy in comparison.
It was trickier to compare against idevices (for which I now have a new respect). I soon figured that iPhone 7 was missing some minute details compared to both ipad and mojo especially with music with lots going on (like metal where so many things are happening loudly). This was most noticeable with cymbals, treble and heavy guitar distortion.
Now if you (like me) are a casual listener of only popular genres (by which I mean pop, rock, rap, dance), I think the differences between mojo sound and ipad sound will not be obvious even after volume matched A/B listening. Or you might hear some differences but not as improvements in quality. It took me 2 weeks of listening to finally start appreciating a few definite improvements. The best genres to appreciate these would be spacious music with complex arrangements of many instruments; orchestra, opera, movie & game scores, classical etc.
Attentive listening of these genres on ipad will reveal that instruments are crowded together sometimes even overlapping. Lots of times it becomes difficult to separate one instrument from the other. Many notes get drowned out in the fray especially bass notes. You also feel like everything is played between you ears.
With critical listening on the Mojo, you'll notice that the music occupies a bigger space (if its not obvious, you can close your eyes and imagine where each instrument is and try to focus on how separately you can hear each). Everything separates out, you can sort of feel the general direction where each instrument is and every passage they play is delineated from everything else.
This widening of the soundstage and imaging is the most definite change I discovered with the Mojo. There are minor other differences of course like bass gains a touch more definition and you can 'feel' the shiver with sub bass (not necessarily increased slam). Distortions of electric guitar and vibrations of horns sound crisper and cleaner.
Hope my review helps. One suggestion if you buy the mojo is not to jump to conclusions within the fist few listens. Like I said it took me 2 weeks to really 'see' the difference.

!!!ACHTUNG WICHTIGES UPDATE!!!

- Beoplay H6 1.Gen. (Nun auch mit genug Bass)
- Sennheiser HD650 (Sehr knackiger Sound, kraftvoller Bass)
- Sennheiser HD600 (Sehr gutes Klangbild)

Ingo
