Saves room on the computer. It’s small and can easily be stored or paced up. It is faster than the older drives, but barely. If you are copying a lot of things it does still take a while. Easy to use. It doesn’t need an external power supply, doesn’t need to be plugged in.
Really short cable so it must be close to the computer when plugged in. You can just put it on top of it though. It doesn’t give the full 4 TB, probably due to the mechanical things that run it.

Background:
I'm a cyber security consultant that happily pays premium for three things: power adapters, memory, and wireless routers all for the three basic code of Confidentiality, Integrity (of data) and Availability (and speed). In the years after I got the MyBook portability has become a big deal both for my industry and in general while the need for increased storage has only grown linearly (as in not-exponentially thank God) which helped me consider 3TB+ 2.5" hard drives like this one. This is in part thanks to the growing size of free cloud storage but also much ado about Netflix and Pandora that offer custom music and subscription based movies and TV shows. Having said that external hard drives are on the way out and I suspect this very well may be my last external hard drive ever.
Pros and Cons of the Passport:
First of all WD hard drives have been a misnomer for they offer first an easy layer of basic password protection in the now standard 256AES encryption "without compromise in performance." I can always of course put my own 3rd party encryption but it always takes from performance and for the level of stuff I keep in my drives I really don't think I need anything more convoluted than the factory offer. Hardcore folks will point out that WD's software has been flawed in the past and researchers managed to brute-force a key to gain access but I'll tell you that if someone so expert wanted access to your drive you've been living the wrong life! The take away for my personal stuff is that if the hard drive WAS stolen it would have a layer of protection that would deter common thieves from getting hold of it. Even theft isn't my main concern really. I just don't want my kids getting hold of stuff like R rated movies they shouldn't be watching...
Second, speed was an initial concern for I was coming down from a 3.5" externally powered MyBook to portable 2.5" speeds. Claimed speeds for MyBook was a modest 7200 RPM 6 Gb/s 64MB while this new drive was the typical 5200 RPM 5 Gb/s 16MB which to me was a perfectly acceptable speed. If neither mean squat do you know this: I perfectly ran a 2K and 4K resolution video without issues. Mind you that MyBook will continue to lionshare of my storage needs for it can handle more work thanks to the increased buffer and transfer rate, MyPassport is to become my personal (not my family's) data-bank often used for backups and then thrown into the safe box.
I strongly recommend getting the drive directly from the vendor or a reputable reseller. Don't cheap out on space for you never want to fill this anything beyond 75% capacity. If you're a Plex user consider the 6 or 8TB MyBooks.
