What I use this laptop for:
1.) Gaming; I game quite often and I play games like COD, Fortnite(Of Course), Rocket League, Counter Strike, etc...
To no surprise this laptop is a beast. The graphics of my games and the frame rates are very good. This is coming from an Xbox gamer majority of their life so granted the difference is huge but in my opinion it is very satisfying. I have no issues with lag, screen tearing, and anything else you might encounter.
2.) I use this laptop for heavy graphic editing and modeling for work. For work I run applications such as AutoCad, AutoCad Inventor, other Pattern Design Software, Adobe Creative Cloud(Photoshop, Illustrator, PremeirePro, etc.), and other work such as coding and designing websites. In sum, I use and rely on this laptop to get the job done swift and efficiently and it does just that. Whenever I download, update, or open applications my Blade gets to work right away and I don't have too much waiting time like other computers I used before for work. Windows 10 upgraded from Home to Pro in about 5 mins.
3.) Music, internet surfing, netflix, etc... This laptop handles these tasks with ease, kinda like everybody else not thinking twice about breathing :p
Overall, this laptop looks beautiful, sleek, thin, and it is light. This laptop definitely turns heads. And oh I forgot to mention the chroma lighting function is super sick. I don't have much to complain about this laptop for it does everything and more than I expected it to do.
Now lemme be real with all you potential buyers;
- You are buying a name brand product get over the price, definitely worth it.
- No ethernet port. If you are anal about having to connect a USB to ethernet converter look elsewhere, but you are missing out.
- This laptop is very powerful, but also very thin. UNDERSTAND!!! That this laptop will get hot when you game with high graphics or when you try to push this laptop. This isn't an issue with this laptop it is with every ultra light and thin laptop. But note, CPUs and GPUs these days can, surprisingly, take some pretty high temperatures without being damaged, so if you are going to be pushing this laptop download a program that can keep you updated with temperatures.
- Lastly, understand Razor makes tons and tons of products it isn't much of a surprise that some products come faulty. If this happens to you talk to support, if you bought through amazon exchange your product and get a new one.
- People are always gonna find ways to leave negative feedback about products like this, understand no laptop is "perfect", there are only laptops that fit an individuals specific needs.
Conclusion:
Im sad to see such bad reviews on Amazon, but if you want this laptop go look at multiple youtube reviews and other gaming laptop comparisons. This is the first time I purchased a Razor product and man am I more than happy. From now I will always consider a Razor product. No laptop is "perfect", find one that fits your individual needs, and good luck searching for laptops. I know I found my brand and I feel comfortable enough to say this laptop will last several years minimum, which if you ask me isn't such a bad investment(:
I got my Blade in the 144hz, GTX 1070 version and I loved it. It is very fast and does everything I need it do. I use it at school for homework and such, and it is fine (only lasts for an hour or two without being plugged in). At home when it is plugged in, I can play GTA V no problem and get a consistent 110 frames per second. I also get a constant 110 FPS on games like Beam NG Drive. I easily get 200 FPS playing CS:GO on max settings too. I use the G-Sync so it only displays 144 FPS, and I do get 144 FPS on Minecraft and CS:GO.
Cons:
However, the speakers had a weird glitch where they sounded absolutely terrible, I recorded a video and it sounds like they are underwater. It sounded better when I turned off Dolby Atmos, but another issue was the charger. It broke and stopped charging my laptop, and I had to replace the entire order because I couldn't replace just the charger. I got a replacement laptop of the same exact type, but it has a dead pixel and the speakers cut out and in randomly when playing games. Oddly enough, this doesn't happen when I watch videos or listen to music, just gaming sessions like heists in GTA or long rounds of CS:GO. I already sent back my original laptop, and will send this one back too. Hopefully, third time is the charm, and I get a Blade with no quality control issues. The battery life is also pretty bad and lasts less than 3 hours at school, but if you bring a charger it is fine.
The quality control should not be such a huge issue, but Razer has had this problem in the past and a lot of Razer Blade buyers have issues with quality control. It sucks that I spent $2,400 on a laptop to have to send it in and now i have to send the replacement in too.
I really thought they'd get it right with all they've learned and this new redesign, but clearly they haven't. I'll give you a rundown of the problems with more detail later.
List of issues:
- ? key is in the wrong place (so frustrating to type)
- Keys with a 2nd function (all f-keys and ?,>,<, etc) don't backlight their secondary function so you can't tell which keys control volume at night
- touchpad lockout when typing is terrible. My mouse always jumps around when my palm touches the touchpad while typing
- This laptop runs VERY hot. Even just using a web browser causes the palm rest to heat up.
- no fingerprint reader for windows sign-on in a $2500 machine
- The laptop isn't too heavy for what it is, but the power brick is SO HEAVY. Any weight savings from the thin laptop are lost if you have to carry the brick
- Razer proprietary power jack means that replacement/additional adapters will be very expensive ($100)
- They keyboard is ok, not great. You'd think for a gaming laptop they'd put a more robust keyboard inside. This one fees like the keyboard on a microsoft surface pro (which is fine, but not great for gaming)
- There should be an additional USB 3.0 port on the opposite side to future-proof the machine. Also, the laptop should be able to run off a thunderbolt charger, and just disable the graphics card when doing so.
- Fans run audibly even when computer sits at idle
- Green Razer logo on back of screen cannot be adjusted (color or brightness). I'm not thrilled about advertising to people that I'm working on a $2500 machine. Razer clearly cares more about their marketing than the potential safety of their users against would-be thieves.
- And possibly the biggest issue - THE LAPTOP DOESNT CHARGE IF YOU PLUG IT IN AFTER IT'S BEEN TURNED OFF. Yes, you read that correctly. You must turn on the laptop, then turn it off with the power adapter plugged in, for it to continue charging. Between this and the ? key placement, and the poorly designed keyboard and backlighting, I'd say these flaws are unforgivable in a $2400+ machine from a reputable company with 10+years experience in hardware manufacturing.
I'm returning this one and getting a Gigabyte Aero 15x, which I'll also review once I receive it.
Top reviews from other countries
I am done with razer and maybe laptops in general with Amazon.
Great build quality and components. Screen is far above average. Can play all AAA titles. Good selection of IO. Gets a little loud when playing demanding games but that is to be expected because it is working hard, but cools down quickly. Battery does not last long but this is a serious piece of hardware and battery life was sort of an idea not a goal.
Quality
First laptop came with a defective video card. Second laptop worked great out of the box. After 6 months palm rest began to separate and make an audible squeaking noise when hand was rested on the laptop. After 8 months cooling fans started to fail which required repair.
I cannot recommend this laptop. the initial quality appears good but this laptop is simply not built well enough to last long than 24 months. There are better options out there.
