#1 feature is problematic (external flash sync)

#1 feature is problematic (external flash sync)
Basic User: If you just want to point and shoot your SX-70 camera indoors at nearby subjects, then YES - this quick add-on flash bar enables that! Easy decision. The Polaroid SX-70 cameras have many unique and desirable features (e.g. compact style, glass lens, manual focus) except they use a low ISO 160 film which is only useful in broad daylight without flash considering the large variable aperture (f8-f22). The only alternative is finding a used 20+ year old and large clunky flash bar made for SX-70s that uses 4x AA batteries stored under the camera itself (e.g. ITT MagicFlash) whereas the Mint Flash bar is compact and can fit in your pocket. In this regard, the Mint Flash Bar is a 5-star product.Advanced User: Now the main reason I purchased the Mint Flash Bar was to use my SX-70 camera with external flashes by using the 2.5mm flash sync port for more controlled lighting of my subjects. This unfortunately is problematic. First, the 2.5mm port is very UNCOMMON and RARE compared to the standard 3.5mm mono or stereo "audio cable" used on studio flashes / strobes so you are always looking for adapters to get it to work. Every adapter you add creates an additional single point of failure in the flash sync system. Secondly, there is a "test fire" button on the Mint Bar BUT it only fires the flash -- NOT the external flash sync port! So the only way to test external flash is with an empty pack of SX-70 film in the camera (*note: the camera shot counter must also be between 10-1 or the flash will not fire, so you need to reinsert the film cartridge*), so one cannot test the flash (i.e. connectivity, flash power, exposure, etc) while in the middle of a pack of 8 shots of Polaroid Originals film. Thirdly, the flash sync port is unreliable - especially when connected to wireless flash transmitters (i.e. to fire multiple flashes) so it has only worked for me when directly connected from Mint Flash Bar via 2.5mm (stereo or mono) cable to 3.5mm cable adapter, to 3.5mm standard stereo audio cable to my studio strobe. Perhaps the voltage charge to fire the flash is not powerful enough to trigger my wireless transmitters. (e.g. Yongnuo RF-602 via flash sync port to hotshot adapter) Either way, this is a very problematic setup - especially considering the SX-70 has a variable aperture (f8-f22) when shooting. Considering the hassles involved in this setup (initial testing only so far), I give this feature a 1-star as practically unusable for my expected and intended purpose.General Basics: Regarding the flash itself, the 2x AAA batteries makes the flash bar very compact and sleek at the cost of a slightly long delay (~30 seconds) in recharging the flash capacitor for another shot. Considering your Polaroid Originals photos take 3-5 minutes to develop... I don't really consider this a major issue. The alternative is a used, old and bulky flash bar made in the 1970s-90s that uses 4x AAA batteries and charges only slightly faster. The three modes of the flash bar: 1) Off (but 2.5mm external flash sync port works), 2) Low Power (for Polaroid 600 film (ISO 600 sensitivity) without ND filter), 3) Full Power (for SX-70 film (ISO 100-160 sensitivity).Troubleshooting for Flash to fire:1) Fresh batteries in Mint flash bar, 2) Turn flash to Low or Full power mode, 3) Wait for flash capacitors to charge when the green light turns on, 3) Press the Test fire button or Shutter button on camera (*note: SX-70 camera must have a film pack installed with camera shot counter from 10-1, if shot counter is 0 then need to reinsert film cartridge for flash to fire)Troubleshooting for External Flash to fire:1) Fresh batteries in Mint flash bar, 2) Turn flash to Off/Low/Full power (ideally off to use only external flash), 3) Fully insert 2.5mm stereo audio cable into external flash sync port and use cable adapters as necessary to insert other end of cable into external flash (i.e. do not rely on wireless triggers), 4) Press the Shutter button on camera (*note: Test fire button does NOT trigger external flash port AND SX-70 camera must have a film pack installed with camera shot counter from 10-1, if shot counter is 0 then need to reinsert film cartridge for flash to fire)Overall 2-star rating since my primary intended use is off-camera flash in a studio environment. Will update review / rating if I can find more information and a reliable usage setup for more consistent results.
