Update: Great camera but not sure it's worth the upgrade from earlier Canon rebels

Update: Great camera but not sure it's worth the upgrade from earlier Canon rebels
I was fortunate to purchase this through Amazon (I think it is interesting that mostly it is only available through third party vendors on the marketplace), as I decided to return it because I just wasn't satisfied. I did not have the spots on the sensor that have been noted, but I found the shutter noisy (compared to a t2i), and I was disturbed by the fact that the video control is now part of the on/off switch. There were some other minor changes to control buttons from earlier rebels to accommodate the fully articulating viewfinder, but the video control is the only problematic one for me. While I like the new viewfinder, I was surprised that the touchscreen still requires use of the control wheel for some functions. The main reason I returned the unit is that the image quality just did not seem to warrant the upgrade from my current 18.1 mp rebel. I enjoy wildlife photography, especially of birds, and so crop a fair amount and I was excited to see what the additional pixels and autofocus points of the t6i mean for improved image quality. In direct comparisons there was minimal difference, though I will acknowledge that color was a bit more vibrant on the new t6i. I did not use the wifi function (but I use the eyefi mobi card in my t2i, so don't really need this function), or the video to can't speak to how well these work. If you are new to the Canon rebel line, this is probably a worthy entry level camera. If you already have an earlier version, especially the newer t5i, you'll have to decide if the added pixels is worth the upgrade. It wasn't for me, though I may rent the t6s version and see if more time with the camera makes me like it more.Update 6/25/15 - I have spent another two weeks with the camera (I rented it), and have upgraded my review with an additional star. I'm not sure my original review indicated strongly enough that this is a great camera if you don't already have a good dslr. And I believe that the upgrades to this camera over older rebels might make it worth the upgrade if you do a lot of video or low light photography. The advantages of the t6i for low light shooting was brought to my attention by the comment from Willie, and so I tested it out. My t2i, at 18 mp, does hunt more in low light and the image is slightly darker (you can see the difference in the photos I've uploaded). However, since most of my use with the camera is in natural light I still do not plan to upgrade. The articulating touchscreen LCD is nice, and balanced out some of the less desirable changes to the controls, but isn't enough to make the change. In fact, the fun thing about testing my old camera against the latest rebel is confirming that Canon does make great cameras that should last a long time. I understand that there will be a SL2 in the fall, and I'll see what that has to offer.Update 7/6/15: I did end up upgrading, but not to the t6i. Found a great deal on the marketplace for a used t4i, and grabbed it. I realized that turning on the video on the on/off switch has been around since the t4i, so really not such a big deal on the t6i. I will say now that I have an articulating, touchscreen lcd that it is a nice upgrade to have, especially if you use liveview much. Getting the t4i instead of the t6i meant I was able to get a new lens, and that will probably make the most difference for my photos.

I bought this camera about one year ago. I very much like this camera. Keep in mind that I have never owned a DSLR before. My previous camera was a pentax k1000.
    Some thoughts about the camera:
The swivel screen is extremely useful, for more than I would have thought. I often find a subject for a macro shot that I cannot use the viewfinder for. Perhaps it is very high up and I don't have a ladder, for instance. So I just take out the swivel screen and now I can hold the camera above my head and see the shot on the screen! I would not be able to take these photos with the t6.

It has a lot of software features. They are all great, but I would like to talk about the wifi functionality. The primary reason I bought this camera was for the wifi functionality, and mostly I wanted to use my smartphone as a remote. The software is very flaky and I can get it to work about 50% of the time (and this is coming from a computer science major). I have purchased an independent remote to use because the smartphone linkup is so unreliable. Though it is quite cool, you can change aperture, shudder speed, and iso from the smartphone and you have live view of the sensor! Everything else is so cool, but it is so unreliable. Very disappointing.
There are other uses for the wifi functionality that I have never needed to use and probably never will, personally.
The only other regret I have about this camera is that I wish I had known what a full frame and apc-s sensor is and read up about the differences. I still don't know much but I wish I had considered buying a full frame camera even if it would probably have ended up being too expensive.
Overall, I am very glad I bought this camera and there are no glaring issues that are so terrible.
I attached 4 random photos I took with this camera with various lenses.
OH and I almost forgot. Please buy a fast SD card, because using a slow SD card with this camera (and probably any camera) is like when the light turns green and the guy in front of you waits 10 seconds before going forward.
    I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013CP3KZ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I love this camera and in a SxS comparison, it’s comparable to 80D. It has a great sensor, flip out screen, audio input and does great video, which is what I’m looking for. For motion shots don’t expect much stabilization and for low light, autofocus becomes wonky. But a half press of the trigger quickly fixes autofocus confusion. In addition, the screen is a touchscreen, which also helps for a quick AF fix. You just tap on what you want to focus on and it quickly corrects. For me, someone who relies on autofocus, this camera performs best on a tripod and with good lighting. But the quality of the output can be excellent.

I CANNOT stress how much I love this camera! I've used it in a variety of settings from city shots at night, to every day photographing to caves. The camera handled all of these situations like a pro and gave me some seriously amazing photos. There are all kinds of settings that take a while to learn, but there's also a creative setting that allows you to take photos with minimal work. The wifi setting is absolutely amazing, especially for people like me who love to post to Instagram. The camera itself emits its own wifi, so no matter where you are you can upload your photos to the cloud or google drive on your phone and back them up. Well worth the extra money! The weight is good, not too light but not too heavy and the tilt screen is great. I would recommend this camera for anyone who's looking to have a quality camera that's easy enough to use. There's a learning curve, but once you've got it you'll love this camera as much as I do!

It wasn't for me, though I may rent the t6s version and see if more time with the camera makes me like it more.

Update 6/25/15 - I have spent another two weeks with the camera (I rented it), and have upgraded my review with an additional star. I understand that there will be a SL2 in the fall, and I'll see what that has to offer.

Update 7/6/15: I did end up upgrading, but not to the t6i.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pantalla giratoria 180

Es perfecta apenas comienzo en la fotografía. La pantalla se voltea por completo así que es ideal para grabarte para vídeos en YouTube o hacer stories. Un poco pesada tal vez para llevarla a todos lados... Pero aún así la llevo.

I previously had a T3 and this was a great upgrade! it's not full frame but the features it has for the value - definitely worth the step into. It does support wireless flash triggering and IR remotes. My pictures look so much better with the 24MP sensor and colour depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente cámara de inicio.
