The case is pain to assemble, but for my Raspberry Pi baby monitor this was perfect. The picture quality is good (it's a $10 camera, no one should expect absolutely perfect studio-quality photos). If you need to use the camera in low-light conditions, this isn't great for that either, but for a basic camera is pretty damn good especially at this price. The case is kinda annoying to put together but gets the job done!

WARNING: it may seem like the camera doesn't work, but I used a more up-to-date version of raspian (both were buster, but one was missing some software update I could pull down with Apt update&&upgrade, dist-upgrade, or rpi-upgrade), it would recognize camera but couldn't initialize it. Tried it on my other pi and had no problems, switched their SD cards and it worked on the first one, so I know the camera, and CSI port worked. Just something to be aware of if you think you got a bunk camera! I ordered a replacement, and found this out after, so I'm keeping both.

The newer cameras output higher resolutions but are also a lot more expensive. I opted for this cheaper, older one to install on an RPi3, and it works fine. The included case was a bit overly complicated to assemble IMO, but the camera module itself is fine.

I got this little camera and a 24 inch ribbon cable for my octopi. Works just fine for what I need and the picture quality is great. The only problem is that I cannot adjust the focus range. It has the castle nut style housing on the lens but I cannot seem to get it to budge with a tool or even a screwdriver. It's a little frustrating that my printer is hazy and the background is in perfect focus. Not sure if this is an issue with my model or if it's not an intended feature, but having a functional focal range would make this an easy 5-star and great value.

I bought this to save money; $13 versus whatever the PiCam was at the time seemed like a good deal to me, as I only intended to use it to monitor my 3D printer and make sure nothing catastrophic was happening while I was away.

It has exceeded my expectations. Setup was easy, and the quality of the camera's picture is as good as the PiCams I've seen in this range. Like all these cameras, their ability to focus is not great, and once that focal length is set it does not change automatically, but it can get the job done assuming the subject isn't moving towards or away from the camera often.

I attached a picture taken from the camera via a web-based remote monitoring service; this is of my printer bed, with the lights in the room off. For reference, the only light source is a 2ft strip of 300k LEDs positioned about 12" from the bed surface.

I bought this as I figured I'd take the risk and buy this one instead of the official one for 2x the price. I have a really slow upload speed so a Ring or Nest cam would be relatively useless for me, but I still wanted something similar to those. I set this up with motioneyeos to be able to continuously take low sized photos and send one to me when it detects motion. So, in short I have a really simple/low tech smart security camera. I attached a photo as a sample, while it is not the best quality, it is only 66 KB and I have the quality set to about high medium on purpose. Yet, you can clearly see faces and details on the photos when applicable.
I have this running with a Zero W and it has been running for weeks without rest without problem. Plenty of applications for this, and for the low price it's worth it for some fun tinkering with your raspberry pi.

Works good in the sun, but with a 60 watt bulb, you can't see *anything*. My original RP camera worked MUCH better in dim light. This is great for daylight, but nothing else. I'm NOT trying to get night vision, I want to be able to have a pair of 60 watt bulbs on either side of the driveway, and be able to see the car. I can see the moon reflecting off the windshield, and the two driveway lights reflecting off the chrome, everything else is black. The lights are shining directly on the car, and are bright enough to read under. The light is 6 feet from the car. The car is well lit enough for any ordinary camera. Someone else recommended the noir version, and while that is obviously a good suggestion, this one should work with my direct lighting.

Running on Raspberry Pi 3 A+ and Raspbian 10 Buster.

Primarily using the camera with Octoprint to monitor 3D printing progress. Installs easily - ribbon cable is a bit short, but I've mounted the camera and the Rpi together on an arm to the printer.

Image is a bit soft regardless of focal distance - everything isn't super sharp regardless of distance to the lens. So don't expect being able to read license plates or words with this camera. For my application of monitoring 3D prints, it serves its purpose.

All in all pretty satisfied. A little more expensive that other 3rd party camera modules, but the Arducam came packaged nicely in a small box, sealed in an anti-static bag, and worked on the first pass.

Just as other reviewers have done, I'm using this primarily with OctoPrint. It does the job, I can monitor what is happening, but the image quality is really poor. It's dark and fuzzy and any source of light will cause the image contrast to go off. As per the attached pictures, you can see it mounted to the right of the hotend, but yet the image is super dark. If you want to create beautiful timelapse videos or even see the detail of your print remotely, I'd suggest looking for something different.

The cable is also a tad too short and I had to get an extended cable to mount this where I needed it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Died about a day into use

I bought this for use with raspberry pi/octoprint. It worked for about a day then died. Tried it in multiple other Pi's, but it just doesn't show up as a video device anymore. I should have written a review immediately but totally forgot. Been running fine with a standard USB cam ever since.
