Skycaddie Linx GT Features

Green Distances

Get accurate distances to the front, center and back of each green based on your angle. One number is not enough. To hit more greens you need the front and back distances. This creates a larger landing area making it easier to pick the best club and hit more greens.

Intelligreen

IntelliGreen accurately displays the true shape of the green, rotated by your angle of approach. Move the cursor to any point on the green, such as the pin or safe landing zone, hit more greens and sink more putts.

Target List

Accurate distances to water, bunkers, carries, creeks, end of fairway and many more preloaded. To shoot lower scores starts with better course management. You need to know distances to the trouble ahead in order to navigate your way around the course.

Layup Distances

The Linx GT provides a quick TrueGround layup target on the tee box and into the green for every golf course. When you need a safe distance to hit off the tee or layup to 100 yards into the green on those long par 4's and 5's.

Shot Tracking Features

Smart Tags

Smart Tags behave like an electronic inventory system identifying each club in your bag. Simply pull the club, tap the tag to the Linx GT club tag sensor and take your shot.

Shot Tracking

Shot Tracking allows you to play golf and get the most out of your game. The Linx GT captures the club used, location, and measures your shot distance for game tracking. All this is displayed on hi-res 3D course maps.

Auto Tracking

The SkyCaddie Linx GT includes automatic shot tracking just in case you forget to tag a shot, which runs in the background while you play. Simple one touch editing allows you to add the club post round in SkyGolf360.

Scoring And Stats

Scoring and stat tracking made easy in the SkyCaddie Mobile GPS app. While tracking your game the score card will populate your information and is easily accessible to input your putts or make any changes. All this tracking information will wirelessly upload to SkyGolf360 for post round analysis.

Skygolf 360 - Post Round Analysis

Detailed Scorecard

SkyGolf 360, all of your game tracking data on the Linx GT and SkyCaddie Mobile is wirelessly uploaded to your personal performance locker within the SkyGolf 360 Cloud. View your data on your smartphone, tablet or computer for post round analysis. Share your round with friends, family or your instructor.

Club Gapping Chart

Know how far you hit every club in your bag. The more rounds you track populates your data to help you dial in your game. The club gapping chart might show that you need an extra wedge or hybrid to fill the distance you're missing. Knowing how far you hit each club on the golf course versus the driving range will help you hit more greens and play better.

Scatter Plots

Knowing all your stats is terrific but where is the ball going? Tracking your data populates a scatter plot for all your shots off the tee and into the greens. See your shot dispersion and what your tendencies are. You can sort this by club used, golf course or date to really dial in your information. Another way to help you play better golf and shoot lower scores.

Stats For the Round

With SkyCaddie you can track as many or as few stats as you want. Some rounds you might only want to track your driver while other rounds you track every shot, either way works. At the end of every round you will get detailed stats of what your tracked for the day. Make shot tracking easy, play golf and have fun.

got this for christmas and was stoked to use it. in the spring i finally used it and was very confused on how to use the tags that track your distance as you play each club. You have to download two different apps and go through a bunch of s**t to get it working, but I stayed the course and got it going. couple of months into it, it stopped working and said i needed an update, so 6 hours of technical support it finally connected to my computer, but wouldnt update. The rep told me I should buy a new one because my 6 month warranty expired. thats fine but my garmin is 5 years old and is still 100% accurate and simple to use. Think hard before you invest in this complicated piece of S**t.

My husband really likes this thing. Its his new obsession. It has connection to clubs and phone and gives insight and info on his game. It did however- blank out a few times, so needed to be reset- unsure if it was connectivity or him hitting a random button. But now that it’s reset- its great! He loves it!!

[Update #1: 4/17/17: I am upgrading my review to 2 stars (from 1 star). I received the replacement watch in about 5 days, so that wasn't too long of a wait. The new watch appears to be working correctly (finally!). So, I took the watch out to my local muni course to play the back 9 holes. It took almost 10 minutes for the watch to find the golf course, which I think is a bit too long. Also, it took another 5 minutes or so for the watch to sync with the app in order to utilize the tracking feature. I don't know why but the Skycaddie Mobile app would not sync with the Linx GT watch even though the Skygolf 360 app had synced to it just fine. I had to close both apps and restart it several times before the watch and Skycaddie Mobile app finally synced together. Once I got out on the course, I really did enjoy the fact that I only had to tag the RFID sensors to the watch instead of tagging the sensors to my smartphone (or a RFID reader). But, there are a few technical problems with the tracking system. First, not all of my shots were properly registered on the app; e.g., on couple of holes, my drives were not registered at all even though I had clearly tagged all my shots. On the 18th hole, none of my shots were registered at all! Second, the watch and the app do not sync immediately, and so there is no immediate feedback on the smartphone . (The delay appears to be only about a minute long, but this is still annoying.) Third, when I opened the app after my round was finished, I could not see all the details of my shots on the app because there is no clear zooming feature around the green. So, on a few holes where I had to chip more than once and putt more than couple of times (yes, my short game needs some help), you can't really see each of your chip shots or putts because the software will only show you some cluster of shots around the greens. I thought maybe this is due to the limitation of the app since the phone screen isn't that big. But it's the same problem when you log on to your computer. Fourth, the position of the shots on the tracking software does not look correct. In particular, the putts that I made on the green are shown on the computer appear to be about 30 yards off the green. Finally, the editing features do not work well. It's difficult to add new shots, or delete them, or edit the club you had used, especially if it's a chip shot because the app does not show any details around the green as discussed above. In addition, when I tried to edit my shots on hole #10 on the computer, it deleted all my shots on the hole instead. I'll play around with the watch and the tracking system a few more rounds before I make my final review. But, at this point, I'm very disappointed with the hardware (because the GPS took almost ten minutes to find my course) and the software (because of the bugs described above).]

[Original post:] My initial rating for this Linx GT GPS watch is 1 star due to the issues and technical problems below. But the watch has great potential, so I will update this review once I get my replacement unit.

The Short Version: This GPS golf watch is a great concept, but poorly executed due to confusing registration process, deceptive pricing, and too many technical glitches.

1. You need to install two separate apps in order for the watch to function correctly: the “Sky Golf 360” app and the “SkyCaddie Mobile” app. The Sky Golf 360 app is used for the registration process and to keep track of all the premium features, including tracking your scores, providing statistics, and managing your account. SkyCaddie Mobile app is used to for the actual game tracking system and to provide course information. I don’t know why you need 2 separate apps for this. At any rate, to get all the benefits of Linx GT, you are required to subscribe to the premium service. Fortunately, the watch comes with a code for a free 1 year premium service, but you MUST redeem this code during the registration process. Otherwise, you have to call customer service during their hours of operation to have them do it for you. (More on this premium service next.)

2. This watch has a retail price of $350, and SkyCaddie advertises that you do not need the premium service since you get the basic information for over 35,000 courses for free. However, for you to use the game tracking system, you MUST subscribe to a premium annual service. The only reason you would want to buy this watch is for the game tracking system since there are plenty of other GPS devices/watches out there that tell you the course information at a much lower price. Granted, the watch comes with free 1 year premium service; but at $350, you would think that this feature is included in the cost!!!

3. On my very first attempt to use the Linx GT and the game tracking system, my watch kept telling me every hole was 999 yards away. When I rebooted the watch, it was unable to locate any golf courses at all, including the one I was at. Then, I spent various parts of three days with technical service guys trying to fix the glitches, which included updating the watch to the latest firmware. This update, unfortunately, made things worse because SkyCaddie could not even recognize my watch at all. SkyCaddie offered to replace my unit, but it will take about a week for me to get my replacement.

The Very Long Version:

I bought this watch at a local golf shop. For those of you that are familiar with golf tracking systems, this GPS watch is a great concept! It combines the golf tracking ability of other golf tracking systems such as Arccos, Game Golf Live, and Golf Pad Tags, with the convenience of a golf GPS watch. (BTW, I've used all of the other three products and currently use Golf Pad Tags. You can read my review on Golf Pad Tags on why I think Golf Pad Tags is a superior product over the other more well-known competitors.)

The idea is simple: like other golf tracking systems, the Linx GT watch will keep track of each of your shots, including which club you hit, where the ball went, and how far you hit it so that you can revisit the round on your smartphone or computer. The tracking is done by placing a RFID sensor on the end of each of your golf clubs and registering each RFID sensor with the SkyCaddie Mobile app. This process is super easy and does not take long at all. The RFID sensors tell your watch and smartphone which club you are using. You simply tap or "tag" the sensor to your watch for each of your shots. The watch also has motion sensors so that even if you forget to tag the sensor to the watch, it will automatically know when you have made a shot (it won’t know which club you hit, but you can edit that later on the smartphone or on the computer). The SkyCaddie software keeps track of each of your shot and keeps all the relevant statistics that you can either review on the smartphone as you play or after your round is done on your computer or smartphone.

The Linx GT tracking system is similar to other tracking systems such as Arccos, Game Golf Live or Golf Pad Tags, which all use similar concepts including placing a sensor on each of your golf clubs. Like the Linx GT, Arccos’ sensors have motion detectors which automatically tells your smartphone that you had hit a ball without you having to tag the sensor to anything (in fact, there is not tagging system for Arcoos since it is all automated). Unfortunately, in practice, Arccos wills sometimes miss your swing or falsely register a swing that did not happen – especially for your pitches and putts. Arccos has an app for Apple Watch, but not for Android nor Samsung watches. Game Golf Live uses a separate sensor reader that clips onto your belt. You simply tag your RFID sensor to the reader for each of your shots. Game Golf is only compatible with Apple Watch and Pebble watches at this point. Golf Pad Tags currently only uses your smartphone’s NFC reader, which means that you have to tag the RFID sensor to your smartphone on each shot. (Game Pad is also introducing a separate reader similar to Game Golf that you clip onto your belt, to be released mid-2017.) Game Pad Tags is compatible with many different smartwatches (including Apple Watch once the separate sensor reader is released) to show you the course information, your score and the distance of your last shot. However, the bottom line is that all three use your smartphone to keep track of your game, and if you want any immediate feedback, you need to have your phone on you while you play. The Linx GT is superior to these products because (1) you do not need your smartphone with you while you play since you can get immediate feedback on your watch, (2) you simply tag your RFID sensor to your watch instead of having to tag to a sensor reader on your belt or your smartphone, and (3) if you forget to tag your shot, the watch will automatically record your shot for you.

So, this is all great in concept. BUT, the problem is the execution. I have had this watch for almost two weeks now, and I have not been able to use it once due to technical glitches. Let me explain:

First thing you do after you buy this watch, you must register it with SkyCaddie. This can be done either on a computer or on your smartphone. I chose to do it on my smartphone since you will eventually need to set up the RFID sensors with each of your clubs on your smartphone. In order to register on your smartphone, you need to download the Skygolf 360 app. Here is where I ran into my first frustration: during the registration process, it was not clear to me that you MUST also activate the premium membership (which is free for one year). It took me a good half an hour of fumbling around on the Sky Golf 360 app (as well as the website on the laptop) before realizing that you CANNOT activate the membership at a later time. So, you would think that SkyCaddie would make it abundantly clear in the instructions that if you do not activate it during your initial registration, you must contact customer service so that they can do it for you. Unfortunately, their customer service is only available during the daytime, so I had to wait until the next day. Once I did get them on the phone, they were able to register me without a problem.

You may ask, why do you need the premium membership when SkyCaddie advertises that the watch comes preloaded with over 35,000 courses available to you for free? Good question - because without the premium membership, you cannot use the most important feature of the watch - the game tracking system!!! Without the premium membership, you basically have an ordinary GPS golf watch that only tells you how far away the green is, including no hazard information, no target information, etc. This is not made clear in the description of the product anywhere. Clearly, not paying the membership defeats the purpose of buying Linx GT if you cannot use the key feature of the tracking system. Fortunately, the first year is free. But, for $350, you would think that this is included in the price of the watch. At the minimum, it didn’t sit right with me that Sky Caddie did not make this abundantly clear.

Second technical problem: now that I had activated the premium membership, I took the watch out to my local golf course for first field testing. When I turned on the watch in the parking lot, it took some time to find the course, but the wait was not terribly unreasonable. In fact, everything seemed to be working fine as I was able to scroll through each of the holes on the course. Then I synced the watch with my smartphone so that I can start registering the individual sensors to each of my clubs. Remember, this syncing is necessary because it tells the Linx GT watch (and my smartphone) which RFID sensor belongs to which of my golf clubs. This is where I ran into another example of how unclear SkyCaddie’s instructions are. In order to sync the sensors, you have to use the SkyCaddie Mobile app. This app is not the same app as the Sky Golf 360 app, which was used to register the watch. But you wouldn’t know that immediately because common sense would tell you that you should be able to use one single app!

At any rate, after installing the SkyCaddie Mobile app, I was able to connect the watch to the smartphone and was able to sync the sensors correctly. But then I noticed that my Linx GT watch started to show every hole as 999 yards away. This was strange because it was working just fine prior to syncing the watch to the SkyCaddie Mobile app. After I rebooted the watch, Linx GT was not able to locate any golf courses at all – even though I was still at the same golf course! So, my first attempt to use the Linx GT was a big fail.

I contacted customer service next day who told me that I needed to connect the watch to a computer and update the firmware to the latest version. I was able to do that seemingly without a problem. The update software indicated it may take more than 10 minutes. However, it took almost 2 hours. Moreover, at the end of the 2 hours, I got a strange error message saying that the watch was not connected to the computer. I rebooted the watch, and still got the same message. I had to wait until next day to contact customer service they do not work past working hours.

Next day, I spoke with 2 different customer service representatives. After about an hour of rebooting the watch, the computer, resetting the watch, etc., they tell me there’s nothing else that can be done. To their credit, SkyCaddie is sending me a replacement unit, but I’ve wasted many hours trying to get the first watch to work and have to wait almost a week for the replacement unit.

The bottom line – I wish this product worked. I really want to use the game tracking system that allows me to tag the sensor directly to my watch instead of relying on a smartphone. But, due to technical glitches I have not been able to try it out yet. And the unclear instructions do not help the situation at all. Finally, the requirement of premium membership makes this product (if I can ever get it to work) useful for only one year before I have to pay more money to SkyCaddie on top of the retail price of $350.

I will update this review once I get the replacement unit. Hopefully, I can write about how well it actually works on the golf course!

I received this as a gift and have to say I've been very pleased with it so far. I like that it automatically tracks my shots and is easy to use. The battery life is much better than I expected it to be. I still like my SGX but this is definitely my new favorite.

Great product in theory. Easy to use. My only issue is that the app for the phone keeps crashing and I have to close it and log back in. I have also had to uninstall it and reinstall it to get it to work. When it does work though I really enjoy it.

I did not buy this from Amazon but need all of you to know something very significant about it. After using it once or twice, it would not work with my Iphone 8+. After over 7 hours of being run around, promises from tech support unfulfilled they finally admitted that they had a software glitch in the mobile app they can not repair. Further, they continue to sell their product and it will not work. I am a lifelong Sky Caddie member, that ended today after it took me 6 hours over two days to get the truth, while they promised me that they would get everything fixed. It is the end of May 2020 as a point of reference. Buy at your own risk
