I wanted a baseline from now to see how my dietary intake effected my fitness.
There are a few methods out on the market (i.e. digital scales, calipers, tape measurement), as well as other methods that are very involved (i.e. Bodpod, Dexa scan, hydrostatic weighing). The problem with calipers are that there is a learning curve associated with them, and it really takes another person to make the measurements on the assessed person to be more accurate. Scales only look at the fat total percentage in the entire body (omental fat, intramuscular fat, and subcutaneous fat) so it is not precise. That goes the same for handheld biometry.
When I saw that this takes 26 readings across different muscle groups I figured it had more validity than other more cursory measurements.
I proceeded to charge the device for 2 hours prior to use. I filled up the spray bottle. Then, I proceeded to download the app, register for an account, and pair the device to the phone.
As expensive as this was I was surprised that it didn’t have some form of carrying case. This has a USB cable, cradle and the device.
Pairing was simple enough, and firmware took a few minutes to update in the unit.
To get a reading, you can’t have any excessive body hair, and the electrodes need to be wet. That is how I noticed how this works. It will go step by step to each body part: right vs left, each major muscle group, upper and lower body, front and back torso).
It took about 15 minutes to get the readings. It broke down the fat percentage by body part and assessed the quality of muscle side to side. I ran it once and may have been flexing on one side, which likely affected muscle quality readings. So I will try it again, in the next few days.
In the summary you choose your goals: get fit, lose fat or gain muscle. It gives recommended exercises.
Overall it’s an excellent system. It does take time, but it gives a more accurate reading than just a scale would.

This unit is being used with an iPhone 7 and my body fat level hovers around 10% (been a little lower, been a little higher); I don't know how this would work with an Android phone or for someone with a substantially higher body fat level than me.
I've never had any connectivity issues (between the Skulpt and my iPhone). I've never had any breakage or malfunctions. While I think the readings are very usefully consistent, I do think the %'s it gives me are low (was reading 6.5%-ish when I came out of the cut, reading 8.0%-ish now after purposefully gaining weight; I think I was 9-10% after the cut and 10-12% now).
I find this incredibly helpful. Readings measurement to measurement are within .5% of each other: I'm looking for trends down, up, or the same so I don't panic if one day a reading is .5% higher than the last. I've never had back-to-back measurements come out more than .5% of each other. As my body fat level increased while gaining weight the measurements went up with it. Between this, the mirror, my performance lifting weights, and the scale I think I have as good of information as I could possibly have.
Update: My wife actually liked the unit so I picked up another one for her on the hope that it was just a defective unit...but to no avail. This unit has the same issue as the old one...to those who might say that I am just not using it correctly...yeah, no. It just doesn't work very well if it does at all. For what its worth, the only thing that even seems to help at all is using Spectra 360 electrode gel. Spreading this on the sensors and then spraying the water onto the skin's surface before taking a measurement seems to help somewhat.
Update: So much for the Gel...that doesn't even help anymore. Grrrrr.
Update: Went to attempt a measurement on the outside chance that it would actually function and noticed that one of the sensors on the unit was not sitting flat. I thought that was odd so I tried to press it back into place...and it freaking fell off. How about that for quality control? Sent that unit back for unit number three.
Update: Upon unit number three's arrival and figuring previous issues were due to firmware... I quickly did several measurements before updating the firmware. Took measurements beautifully...within a few seconds of placing on the skin! The values were a bit lower in BF% than before but at least it consistently took measurements! I begrudgingly did a firmware update and lo and behold it took roughly 30 minutes of fighting with the thing to get it to actually take a measurement. Doesn't even work on my wife now either. Sounds like crap firmware to me. I sent several emails to the Skulpt people (admittedly not the nicest in tone or content) with no response at all...doesn't appear that they give a flip whether or not their product actually works.
Either they know there is a problem and are feverishly working to resolve it before they lose any and all credibility or they are merely cashing in on whatever sales they can get before people no longer buy this thing. I would love to be able to flash the firmware back to the old but that is not possible in the app.
SO...Three different units over 6 months...multiple users and bad results after the most recent firmware update. With this kind of track record it wont be long until their gravy train runs out. Really sad.

I'm placing the device exactly as instructed for each measurement and I just can't get past the first 1-2 measurements because it takes so long to recognise the muscle and I've given up after 2-3 attempts each taking around an hour.
