I would love to give this phone 5 stars but just can't. For the price and for what it does, it's incredible. However, despite being a strong contender against other smartphones in the same league, it falls short in some areas. The main one being that despite the decent size memory and RAM it still has trouble with certain applications. Facebook and Snapchat are big ones. I would say there's about a 50% chance that the official Facebook app will freeze upon startup and need to be closed and reopened. Similarly with Snapchat, the Moto G4 really struggles and will often freeze or require a force close of the application.
Other than that, I don't have any major complaints. I've heard some complain about the camera but, to be honest, it's great for what you're paying and if you are after professional quality photos... you should buy an actual camera and stop expecting the world from your handheld phone. The main speaker is the same speaker you use when listening to people during calls; I actually like this feature because it means that when you are playing music you don't need to put your phone face down onto a surface AND if you're watching a video the sound will be directed towards you rather than coming out of the back. The dual-sim works well, though I haven't tried using it abroad with a foreign SIM, which is probably the most useful reason to have this feature; I assume it would work just as well abroad.
Chargers: The Motorola charger that came with it was great because it was ridiculously long, however, it didn't take long before the charger stopped working altogether... I don't get the feeling it was just a one off, the charger quality did seem a bit lacking compared to other brands. Luckily it WAS just the charger and not the phone. It's important to note that certain chargers and sockets can make the phone touch screen go a bit erratic and sometimes (temporarily) unusable during charge. I didn't have this problem with the official charger (before it broke) but my Nokia charger will sometimes cause the glitch. I've also noticed that power sources like those on coaches or trains will often cause this glitch to happen too. I've not noticed any long lasting damage to the phone because of it, it still charges fine during the glitch, you'll just see random apps opening and keys being pressed. (Removing the charger and turning the screen off and on will return it to normal).
Gaming: I've installed Gameboy, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS emulators onto the phone and they all play like a charm. The phone's large screen makes it a great size for gaming on. I tried Playstation 1 on it and that worked too, but PSP was a little bit too much. I also bought a generic bluetooth controller and it does work well with the phone. I can confirm that Pokemon Go is playable on the phone for those who are interested.
General: Whatsapp and Youtube work without any problems as do important things like email. Due to the slim design of the phone I highly suggest a hardcase for it (Amazon/Ebay is your friend, don't buy them off the highstreet for 3-4 times the price). A hardcase + a thick plastic screen protector will keep your phone in pristine condition for ages. The touch screen still functions perfectly despite the large bit of plastic I'm using. I recommend getting a micro-sd card and putting this in the phone to increase memory, however if you want to use the card for apps, picture storage etc, the phone will ask you for permission to format the card first (this will delete all data on the card, so be careful if there's anything on there you want to keep, make a backup first). The battery life is great with the option of a battery saver mode which makes it last even longer. Overall, it's a great phone and for the price, like I've said, you can't go wrong really. I'll stop babbling now and let you enjoy your phones. Ask me questions and I'll try and get back to you.
P.S: I love the built-in quick features to access certain functions. A quick double flick of the phone to activate the torch. A quick twist to activate the camera. More useful than you'd think in those situations when you need to react quickly.
Got this second hand in 2018 but the battery life got too short to bear this year so I moved on. Sadly prone to occasional random crashes that might cause the phone to restart, even on simple stuff like YouTube, but very good for general use
As I needed a dual sim phone, for using my german and my UK sim in one device, I bought the moto g4. It is pretty big in comparison to my old phone (I owned a xperia z1 compact 4.3inch before) but surprisingly it does fit into my front pocket of my jeans. This was the biggest concern before buying it. I tried a case for protection but for me, with a case this phone really becomes too big. So i use it without any cover or case.
The moto g4 does a good overall job:
good performance 16GB storage + separate micro-SD card slot (some other dual sim phones use the sd card slot for the second sim card, so it's not available for storage) no bloatware camera is alright - it creates good images (my xperia could do significantly better...)
Unfortunately NFC is missing, so google wallet or similar payment apps will not work. The missing magnetic sensor annoys me quite a bit as I use different apps to navigate. The moto g4 can not show me in which direction I am holding it. That's annoying, especially when google maps tells me "head West"....Compass apps will not work.
Regarding the price, the specs and the overall performance I would definitely recommend the moto g4 to people, who want a dual sim phone.
