    Almost Perfect Chromebook!!! 👏
I bought this about a year ago. It works perfectly for what it was designed to do. I realize now that I need some windows programs, which cannot be run on a chromebook. So, I am thinking of selling this on Craigslist and buying a PC. The only issue I have had with this is, sometimes the sound will start screeching, then start working again, or completely go out, and I’ll have to restart the computer for the sound to start working correctly. I have no idea why that happens. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But at least it comes back on...I don’t use the touchscreen as much as I thought I would, but that works smoothly as well...Connects to WiFi, easily, battery life is acceptable, and the screen qualify is GREAT...Overall, I really like this Acer Chromebook.

I've mostly given up on using high-powered mobile hardware at this point, given the ease of use that browser-based RDPs like Chrome Remote Desktop offer (and my penchant for high-end desktop hardware), so I typically find myself looking to buy a new Chromebook every 1-2 years. This offering from Acer really knocked it out of the park for me, especially given the price point for a refurbished model (I was able to pick one up for $160, with zero signs of prior use).

Battery life is excellent, clocking in at 8+ hours in almost every usage scenario. With light use, I've gotten up to 12 on this thing. The display panel is not the nicest I've used, but does its job admirably, with a pleasant contrast ratio and overall good color accuracy. Touch functionality is a nice additional feature on this model, and I haven't had any issues with it so far. The primary draw to this model in my case was the backlit keyboard, as it is difficult to find this feature on a sub-$300 Chromebook, especially in tandem with several of the other features this model offers. The keyboard/backlighting is overall nothing to write home about (average Acer Chromebook island chiclet keys), but the system manages the backlight automatically (shutting it off after a short period of no input), and adjusting brightness is very easy. The backlighting is not as clean as what you'll find on a Macbook or other high-end mobile hardware, but is perfectly functional and a very welcome addition in my case. The processor is better than what you'll find in the majority of sub-$300 Chromebooks, and this in tandem with 4GB of RAM makes for a very capable web-based machine. The USB-C combination charge/display output ports are another feature I enjoy - I think most would be surprised at just how convenient something as overlooked as charge ports on both sides of a laptop can be.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Google has begun to implement a Linux VM feature into Chrome OS, and while performance there is not quite what I'd hope, it is still nice to have the option to use applications like Atom and Steam locally.

Acer has generally been competent when I've had quality issues with their hardware in the past, and I expect that this will continue to be the case if I encounter any problems here. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this machine to anyone looking for this combination of features at a reasonable price point.

This is an Update to my Chromebook problems 12/14/2019

    DO NOT BUY FROM ACER:
After 2 repairs the Chromebook still does not work. The screen goes black. I called Acer to get a refund on my Chromebook and Acer told me they do not refund money on their products. I can send it back in for repair again and they will determine what happens next.

I’ve had this Chromebook since October it replaced a 2014 HP Chromebook. I like the Chromebook and its features, great price too. That being said, this Chromebook has been sent back to Acer for repairs twice for the same problem. The problems being every time I received a notification popup my screen would go black and I would have to reboot and log back into the Chromebook to fix the screen. I also had a problem with Bluetooth not working so I could not use my phone to unlock my Chromebook.

Following the Amazon process, I contacted Acer support, completed their form and they sent me a return authorization email…shipping/fix/return took 6 days with a fix of reseating the Display cable, unfortunately that did not fix the problem. The 2nd fix I went through Acer phone support, some on phone diagnosing and they sent me an email with return information. This time they replaced the mainboard with shipping/fix/return taking 8 days. The notification popup problem is fixed, and Bluetooth phone unlock now works correctly.

Acer support was easy to navigate, the people I spoke were helpful, and their return process was simple. I guess I just got a bad mainboard because everything is now working correctly.

Wow. This is seriously a great Chromebook. The only thing that would have made this better is being able to flip the monitor all the way around so it all acts like a tablet. I really want to give it 5 stars but that's the only thing stopping me.

The screen is HUGE for a Chromebook. It's as big as my wife's $800 i7 laptop. HA!

    The battery life is great.

The charger ports are USB-C just like the latest Android phones. That means you can use your phone charger to charge it! (It doesn't charge nearly as fast with phone chargers but, hey, it charges.) AND it has that USB-C port on BOTH sides of the book! YES! Don't you hate it when your power source is on the right but your power port is on the left? Or vice versa? That essentially makes the cord shorter and it gets in the way and in bends the cord too much near the tip and it puts a lot of stress on the port and...no, that's enough. It's never on the wrong side on this Chromebook!

The SD card slot is for the micro SD cards. The same exact ones you use in your phone. That means you can transfer large files or many files back and forth fairly easily.

The backlit keys are really nice. Kinda makes the keyboard look all bedazzled...but in a good way.

You can definitely use Android apps on this. Maybe not all but Evernote and Boom Beach both work.

Some people have mentioned the sharp edges. Yeah, they're a little sharp but you're not going to get cut. It's a very minor characteristic.

The resolution is really nice. I do need glasses to see but I actually use them so I set it to the max resolution making everything somewhat small but it's really nice. So much real estate. The colors are really good, too.

The sound is better than I expected. I watch Youtube videos on it with my daughter and I've never had a problem hearing anything. I'm going a little deaf and it's still loud enough for me.

To wrap it up, I would absolutely buy this again. I hope it lasts me a few years.

We bought this for our daughter and we have found it to be just excellent. It does everything a young student requires, and has a very good build quality based around a sturdy chassis. The keyboard has a nice feel and the touchscreen is an unexpected bonus in a laptop at this price point. I was concerned about the lack of in-device storage, but this has not proven to be an issue at all (we have not used any of the 64Gb MiniSD card we purchased for it). The Chrome OS is very responsive on this hardware platform, and is faster than I expected. Chrome OS has a ton of software/apps available, and also does not create as much worry about viruses, etc. This machine does everything we need (and much more) and I would highly recommend this unit, especially for pre-teen and teenage students.

Terrible product. The screen broke on me TWICE!!!. So I ordered the laptop, and on startup, the screen was completely dark (brightness at 0%). I called Acer and they tried helping me but they ended up asking me to return it. I asked for a replacement. After 2 weeks of great usage, the touchscreen stopped working and a week later it went dark again. It was great when it worked with amazing battery life but I don't trust it anymore. Piece of garbage.

I was nervous about buying a laptop off amazon but its actually pretty amazing. I've had this for roughly 2 months and so far, the battery life is amazing, I only have to charge it once every 2 days ish. I didn't even realize it had touch screen till I got it and its very lightweight. As a college student, I appreciate the fact that Microsoft apps are already in the play store so downloading it isnt a mission. My only issue is for some reason, on occasion, if I'm watching a video or streaming a show and pause for a minute, I come back and it starts making a weird car engine type sound but thats really my only issue
