I was also excited when the London Heist demo was getting turned into a full game. Finally, maybe we would get an action shooter with AAA production value, something that would put me in awe of what I was being immersed in. But is Blood & Truth too late to the VR scene?
To start, you need a pair of PS Move controllers to play. I’ve always used ones from the PS3 era and they worked fine. It also asks that you are in a seated position, but as you can imagine, you will be ducking and moving around a lot of the time to your benefit.
Story:
Blood & Truth follows a conventional action movie-like story with a British cast of characters. It’s full of the cheeky jokes and movie-dialogue that will either entertain you or be overshadowed by those odd-looking character models. Unfortunately, I still can’t feel emotional about the story or the characters when they look like that, I’m sure they did the best with the resources they could, but the PSVR’s capabilities don’t help much with the type of storytelling they did. If anything, the story was just a break between each action setpiece for me.
Shooting Gameplay:
Your movement involves pointing at locations of cover with your move button. Once in a position, you have the option to move forward if enough enemies are killed, or you can strafe left and right on the plane you are on, usually with a few options for cover that you can crouch behind. This all happens at a steady speed so you’re not disoriented, but that’s also about as complex as the animations go. There are sections where you are continually running and have to shoot enemies while you are, but this is primarily an on-rails shooter, and the best parts are when you don’t have control of your movement, the other parts feel slow.
You have two primarily pistol-sized weapons and a large weapon you can holster on your back. You can see the holsters when you look down but will eventually start to just reach for the general area. There are a decent amount of weapons, and you’re even able to hold your one-handed weapons with two hands for that extra layer of cool.
Interactive Elements/Puzzles:
Through most of the game, you will be able to interact with objects around you, whether it be a glass bottle, an ammo/gun box you have to open, ladders and walls to climb, or a door panel to hack. These small moments usually happen between shootouts and can be fun points of interactivity, but can become a chore if you prefer to just be a shoot guy. My favorite use of ladders would involve having to hold onto a rung while shooting an enemy, and I would sometimes let go of the ladder by out of fear--back to the checkpoint for me. You can even twirl your guns around in your hands (something every shooter game needs to take note of).
Collectibility.
There are lots of collectibles, 79 over 3 different variants. If you want to unlock all the attachments and paints for your weapon collection, you can play this game to your heart’s content.
Don’t Buy This?
I feel like this is a good experience, but not one I would do again. If the story was more enticing, perhaps I could give it another go to get the rest of the collectibles, but I feel like single-player VR games stand out because of their innovations. Seeing London Heist’s gun gameplay for the first time was a blast. Being able to reload the gun in different ways and throw things around was a blast when the Playstation VR first came out--But it’s been years since then. We now have games like Superhot, Beat Saber, and Skyrim VR that have the gameplay chops with well-developed visuals and new gameplay mechanics that you can only experience in VR. Beyond that in PCVR, multiplayer shooters are becoming one of the best VR experiences. Whereas when I played Blood & Truth, all I got was a Point & Shoot. Don’t buy this, rent it or wait for a sale.

loads of fun.
story mode is epic. voice acting fantastic. action scenes are non-stop
there are a bunch of extra modes as wel:
skeet shooting
shooting range
quick draw
... etc
can replay levels without the cinematics to beat previous scores and scoop up hidden items you just didnt have time to pickup, due to the shear amount of heart pumping action
if you have PSVR, you need this in your collection
zero regrets
