That said, I don't need the "bells and whistles," nor do I need tech gimmicks like cameras, in-display finger print scanners, etc. So if you are trying to get all the specs, this price range isn't going to cover all of that. But there's a lot to love about this tablet.
Build Quality: Before purchasing Galaxy Tab A 10.1, I tested other similar tablets in this price range like the Amazon Fire HD 10 and the Lenovo P10. Both are great options also, but the Tab A is by far the best build quality of them all. It surprisingly has a premium feel with its aluminum body. Pretty strong so if you take it on the go, I would definitely trust this over a plastic or glass backing. Now, as you get into pricier options, of course the quality is better, but at the $150-$250 price range, the Tab A is the champ here.
Display: When utilizing the Tab A as a media hub, obviously the display must be solid. Happy to say the screen is beyond great at this price range. To tell you the truth, it's not too far away from the high-end tablets. If I'm being fair, there are other tablets that have just as good displays, but there is one glaring difference, the bezels.
It's impressive how compact the Tab A truly is. The chin and top bezels are kept to a minimum, which makes the overall tablet completely just a screen. It's interesting because it seems like a smaller tablet but it's without the unnecessary bezels. Keeps the weight to minimum so if that's crucial for you as a student or someone that carries quite a bit of items with them, this will be an added bonus.
Touch Screen: Due to the impressive specs on this tablet, swiping and opening apps is nearly seamless. It's buttery-smooth and doesn't lag or stutter. That said, gaming isn't my top priority, but the specs can handle some decent gaming on here. It handles multi-tasking while videos playing in the background just fine.
Battery Life: Generally speaking, I will have the tablet playing YouTube videos in the background while at work for about 8-9 hours a day. Generally leaves me at 20-30 percent battery life, which isn't bad considering I will also keep the videos at the highest settings at 1080p.
Price: There are cheaper options out there, but none with the build quality as the Tab A. This tablet warrants the price tag, and depending on what is you plan on using the tablet for will determine whether you can justify the price.
Overall: The Tab A covers my needs thoroughly. There are some short-comings like the speakers, but no tablet or any piece of tech is ever perfect. BTW, if speakers are important to you, you might want to look at another tablet. For me, not a big deal at all since I use ear buds or headsets.
Other than that, Samsung did a solid job with this tablet. If you're considering getting a tablet, my best advice is write down what you want in a tablet and compare to the competition. While I'm not sure I would recommend this tablet for heavy gaming or for audiophiles, this is certainly a nice, well-rounded media tablet.
I spent 2 weeks reading reviews because I'm very picky about my tech. I want the best "bang for the buck" but rarely buy top of the line just for the sake of it.
This tablet fits the bill perfectly. It's not the best for gaming, but it's not designed to be. I do play Ark Mobile on it and it plays decently at that. I'm sure Samsungs other models (that cost over $650) would do this better, but again.. that's not what I needed it for.
The tablet boots up quickly and is very responsive. It has the normal Google bells and whistles that you'd expect with a new tablet. With 32 Gb onboard, there is ample room for most apps and documents but you can also add a MicroSD card for more storage. The display is very nice, even nicely visible outside (see the attached picture!) with a nicely responsive touchscreen (my biggest gripe on cheap tablets).
The performance is well on par with my friend's iPad Mini 4 despite the Mini being equipped with a better processor. The battery life is very nice as well. I left this at a client site over a weekend, and it was still at 35% battery when I picked it up on Monday. It was maybe only 50% when I left it. I use it fairly regularly throughout the week and only have to charge it 3 times.
Pros:
- Nice display with great color and resolution
- Very responsive touchscreen
- Lots of options for fitted cases (I highly recommend the Rantice rugged case)
- Very nice build quality
- Great battery life
Cons:
- Doesn't include DeX like Samsung's higher-end models
- No mobile data
- No biometrics (facial recognition or thumbprint)
Best use cases:
Streaming content, web browsing, productivity, e-reader
Non-recommended use cases:
Gaming
Overall:
Awesome tablet, probably the best you will find unless you want to spend $500 plus

The cable is short, but I just ordered some longer type C USB cables and it works perfectly.
The response time is fast, the image is clear, the settings were easy, and the product came in sealed from the original manufacturer and was delivered within a few days of ordering, and I live in a remote area.
I highly recommend!
The tablet works quickly, the colors are bright, the sound is good.
