Unfortunately, they never fit my ear canals, the rope that connects them behind your head often pulls, bounces, or otherwise assists in disconnecting them from your BT the second they are jostled. I even bought extra small adapters for the ear buds but they still disconnect with any movement!
Don't try and work outside or exercise with them! Jeez!
Audio quality wasn't great, battery life fluctuated but often wouldn't stay well-charged.
I've barely had them a year and I've only used them a couple times - whereupon they continue to disconnect and fall out of my ears. So frustrating when on a job or a call!
It is CRIMINAL to charge this much for these faulty earbuds!
I've since spent a FRACTION of this cost on earbuds that wrap over the ear and stay in place - yay!!
Update 10-9-20: These Nuraloops are in a class of their own. There is nothing else like them. I found the sweet spot with my personal profile and there's no going back.
PROs:
* These are the first IEMs I've used whose supplied tips provide a good seal (which is CRUCIAL when using IEMs). I normally have to use SpinFit tips to get a good seal.
* The available personalization software (Nura) is pretty good. You can use it to set up how you want these earphones to work. (More on this in the CONs section below.)
* The adjustable noise cancellation works well.
* The hearing customization is brilliant, and is the major selling point for these earphones. Use these with EQ and you can dial-in perfect sound. (While I was an audio engineer, I prefer a "fun" sound feel for personal listening.)
* The in-ear fit and weight is very good. I don't have any problem with them falling out.
CONs:
* The supplied carrying/storage pouch is pitiful. I recommend getting one of these to protect the product - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D2D71M2 - Use the supplied pouch to store the "hard-wire" connection cable.
* [Updated Oct. 25/2021 - The battery life for these can be abysmal. My experience using manual on/off mode has the battery going dead within a couple of days! So, in manual mode, you won't just be able to pick these up and use them whenever you want! I have found that the battery life is MUCH better if you use the AUTO off/on mode!! (Which works well for me.) Due to work demands, I hadn't used these in several weeks. I chuckled to myself when I picked the Nuras up today expecting them to be DOA. They came on and announced they were at 50% charge - amazing since when I last used them they were at 70% charge! Huzzah!]
* The ability to control these IEMs thru touch is a great idea, BUT the sensitivity of the touch controls is soooo 'finicky', that using these can sometimes be a PITA.
* The connector module in the center of the head cable can be uncomfortable if you use these while lying down on your back, even on a pillow. YMMV
* When using these in "hard-wired" mode (instead of Bluetooth), the connector module sometimes gets loose enough that they stop working. The connector has a magnetic coupling, and there are about 8 contact points. So, if you even slightly move your head or body, you may have to remove and reattach the connection. [Updated Oct. 25/2021 I don't know if this is a bug or not, but I have found that several of the features do NOT work when the Nuras are NOT being used in BT mode!] Another PITA.
* The proprietary charging cable can be a problem. If you lose it, or it gets damaged, you're boned.
* Charging these (which may a frequent event) can be problematic. (Where I live has a fairly regular humidity level of 60%.) On the first attempt, even though they're supposedly fully charged, they sometimes lie. You have to disconnect them from the charging cable for a bit, and then charge them again. Another PITA. I'm concerned that with all of these bare contact points, any kind of 'corrosion' thru use is just going to worsen this connection problem.
* The adjustable "immersion" setting is another brilliant idea to improve listening, BUT using it is problematic. I'll need to explain this. The amount of "immersion" can be adjusted thru the Nura app to whatever degree you want. BUT, using the touch controls on the earphones themselves to change the immersion mode needs work. If I was going to design this, I would have the immersion "off" go to whatever the minimum setting that has been chosen by the USER in the app. Likewise, I would have the immersion "on" go to whatever the maximum setting the USER has chosen in the app. In actual use, this is NOT what happens. Immersion "off" seems to always go to a mid-range setting of the APP's choosing, while the immersion "on" seems to vary at times, from either the last "on" usage OR to maximum immersion. Strange.
Long story short - IF you can put up with all the shortcomings, you will like these IEMs. I think ALL of these problems (other than the loopy connector issues) could be fixed with software revisions. If that happens, and usage improves, I will try to update this review.
Top reviews from other countries
Sound quality - 9/10 great balance. Good bass. Don't know why anyone would use these without immersive mode on though. Perhaps with audiobooks and podcasts?
ANC - 9/10 Really good but probably not as good as over ear headphones. Cuts out most ambient sounds very well - cars, birds, motors, spouse! Might be one of the best for in ear phones?
Touch controls - 7/10 very responsive. Maybe even too sensitive, however, you wouldn't want less sensitive sensors either - that would be frustrating. New firmware update gives you single, double tap control as well as dial control on each ear. It also gives you the option for manual switch off or auto, instead of only auto switch off when not in use.
Comfort - 7/10 for me, the provided ear bud tips were not a great fit. They would slowly try to slide out wheni was eating due to jaw movement. Substituting some old ear bud tips works perfectly for me. Once you get a good fit, these are very comfy and can be worn for hours without discomfort. Will not come out when jogging or exercising if fitted well enough.
Design - 7/10 I think they look good, and are a good quality build.
Battery life: 9/10 charges in only 2 hours for an alleged 19 hours playback. Don't think I've got that much from them but they DO last WAY longer than any other wireless earphones I've had on a single charge. (Definitely over 10 hours). Worth getting just for the battery life.
Bluetooth: v 5.0 connectivity is good but only marginally better than other BT5 0 phones I've had.
Dislikes and gripes: when not in use, you can't rest them on your shoulders as the wire joining them is too short - they could easily fall off without you noticing. Also, the wire sits just at the bottom of your hairline and can get caught on your collar when turning your head which can be annoying. There's also friction sounds that get carried down the cable when moving - I'm not bothered by that but some might. You also can't rest them (or one side) on your shoulders as the touch sensors get activated by your skin. So when not in use, you need to hang them on your ear lobes instead. I haven't needed to use them with the provided wire for non-wireless mode but the connector being behind your neck might get a bit awkward at times. But having that option of wired/wireless is a game changer. I'd design headphones that can be worn like a necklace with connecting magnets. I even superglued some magnets on my previous Sennheiser earphones for that reason!
Should you buy these? YES! I'm not disappointed and perhaps you won't be either.
