Lowest Requirement:
1 x HDMI 2.0 Cable or HIGHER (18 Gbps)
1 x DP (DisplayPort)1.2 Cable or HIGHER (17.28 Gbps)
Recommended Cable:
1 x HDMI 2.1 (2.1a is also available) (48Gbps)
1 x DP 2.0 (DisplayPort) (77.36 Gbps)
There are plenty of benefits when buying a good quality cable. You will not only get to display higher resolutions, but you may also receive a higher color gamut. Please do a quick google search on how your cable affects your quality.
NOTE: HDMI 1.4 can "technically" handle 1440p @ 144hz, but you need compression enabled to do so. It is always best to get the highest-rated cables for future use. It will save you more money, in the long run, buying a good quality cable.
You also need to make sure your GPU has support for this. If you are using a GPU that is outdated, then you may not have support for HDMI 2.0/DP 1.2 or higher. Please check all of these specifications before buying a monitor like this.
The screen size is perfect for the right immersion for gaming and excellent for multi window work.
The refresh rate works as mentioned. It depends on the content you are using it for but I have gotten 160hz refresh rate but you would need to have the heavy duty graphics card to make it count.
Pros: Picture Quality, Pixel density and size is perfect for gaming, work and editing. I also really love the adaptive lighting panel on the back of the monitor, the video sync feature is a must to increase immersion effect of color matching to content.
Cons: The first monitor I purchased had a faulty USB type B port. Returned and got a 2nd monitor and no problems so really no cons here.
Note: To get the video sync mode to work for the adaptive lighting panel on the back of the monitor you have to do a deep search for the LG Control Center just to find the software. LG needs to have this be user friendly to find. I had to rely on a reddit page to find the link to the software...

I previously had a LG 34gp83-A and loved that so much decided to take it to the next level with LGs 38" model.
Pros:
160hz and freesync is a smooth experience at any framerate. Response times are fantastic as well.
Screen real estate is excellent, really hits that sweet spot. With 34" I was wishing for a bit of extra height, the 38" provides that.
Colors appear slightly improved from the 34GP83-A
Contrast is a touch better than the 34GP83-A (At least to my eye)
The RGB ring the rear I thought I wasn't going to use, but it is very nice in the dark. Only wish it got a bit brighter.
Cons:
Price - for sure not 2x the price of the 34GP83-A, going used made this a slightly easier pill to swallow
Compared to the 34GP83-A the monitor itself is a bit thicker and not as "minimalist" looking - really a nitpick here.
Contrast is weak compared to VA panels and OLEDs. Really not as big a deal as it seems, if playing in a fairly lit room it is hardly noticeable.
Only HDMI 2.0 - work laptop tops out at 75Hz using this input.
Overall near an "endgame" monitor for a immersive focused gamer and workstation combo. Think this will be tough to beat for years to come until ultrawide OLEDs become a reality.

Let me start with productivity, as a software developer this thing is like a dream come true when upgrading from a dual 1920x1080 monitors. That extra resolution height is just mwah! It goes straight into my Developer Console in Chrome ;)
While the above alone is enough for me to justify this purchase, I must say if your priorities are something else like watching movies or gaming, I have not much good news for you there. Simply put, the screen on this is beautiful but the videos (Youtube/Netflix) out today are still not out at these resolutions.
1) Keep in mind that 1600p videos are non-existent. Let alone 3840x1600.
2) The closest thing you get from Youtube is 1440p (which is 2560x1440 so yes it will have big side black bars), which let me just say, is magical! The quality of this compared to a 1080p Youtube video is a huuuuuge difference. That being said, keep in mind that most videos on Youtube still have a max of 1080p; in which case, the videos auto-scale to your 1600p monitor height but you'll definitely "know" it's 1080p without checking due to a very noticeable difference in quality from a 1440p video.
3) While Netflix has ultrawide videos at 3840x1600 for you, you can tell they're all scaled to that resolution from 1080p and you DO notice it... the closest I can compare it for you is think of playing 720p on a 1080p monitor kind of noticeable difference.
4) As for gaming, I haven't used this bad boy for gaming so I cannot comment on that yet.
As for Hz. Not much of a big change compared too the 144 that i was used to, as this caps at 165. Slightly helps but i still prefer the upgrade in panel size vz refresh rate.
Gaming was shutter free and flowed extremely nicely.
The real estate is perfect and that extra height really makes a huge difference over any 34 inch.
I would not have purchased this monitor if it had not been on sale, so the opportunity was perfect.
NO REGRETS and NO CONS to this monitor, so so happy.
This thing is just a total JOY to game on and do work from home on. Buy it while it's still on sale, you won't regret it.
