Engineering Better Noise Cancelation

Dual Noise Sensor technology, featuring two mics on each earcup, captures ambient noise and passes the data to the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN1. Using a new algorithm, the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN1 then applies noise-canceling processing in real-time to a range of acoustic environments. Working together with a new Bluetooth Audio SoC (System on Chip), it senses and adjusts to music and noise signals, as well as acoustic characteristics between the driver unit and ears, at over 700 times per second.

Optimizing Noise Canceling

The WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones incorporate two technologies to maximize noise canceling performance. Unique Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing delivers optimal sound at high altitude while Personal Noise Cancelation Optimizer analyses unique sonic characteristics caused by head size, glasses, and hair then tailors sound to you.

Ambient Sound Control

Adjust ambient sound with the Sony | Headphones Connect app to cancel noise while still allowing through essential sounds, like transport announcements, when you’re listening on the move.

I personally use the 1000xm3 headphones and 1000xm4 earbuds and will purchase nothing else when it comes to noise canceling audio equipment. Super comfortable, I've worn these for 9.5 hours at work with no issue (and I wear glasses) you will not be disappointed!

These are similar to beats but lighter, more comfortable, more noise-cancelling, and work MUCH better in the COLD. My beats shut down anytime the temps went below 25F. These will shut down in the cold, but I use them down to 15F or maybe a little colder before they shut down. To my ears, the sound isn't quite as good as Beats, but still 90% as good. The software is a joke however, trying to sell you downloads, and voice activation simply ruins your listening experience, but you can shut off voice activation to avoid this problem. Great headphones.

1000XM4 was my first Over the Ear & ANC Headphone that I bought after going through plenty of reviews and comparisons between this and Bose 700.
I am not disappointed with my decision to go with Sony.
The Main selling point is that Noise cancelling was cancelling all the constant buzzing sounds.
The sound quality is really good compared to In-Ears.
Got 3 months of Tidal Master subscription with 360 degree sound and Master Tracks which was on another level compared to 320kbps MP3.
Comfort is also good but getting some ear pain after wearing continuously for >5 hours.
Been using them for attending meeting in Zoom/Teams. The sound is crisp and clean but I am getting some issues in microphone eventhough the WiFi network is great.
Also works during gaming with Surround sound effects in PC.
LDAC only works when the Multipoint Feature is OFF.
The Headphones connect app has all types of features such as DSEE Extreme, In Ear optimizer for 360 Sound, Equalizer with 2 Custom options and much more.

Got it in an offer for $278 in BlackFriday 2020.

Overall, If you got $300 to spend on headphones, then look no further in 2021 Jan.

These are great headphones at this price point! They won’t compare to a dedicated headphone amp and high quality pair of headphones, but that’s to be expected and not why you buy these. One item of note, I was worried about using these for calls as most review sites bash them for call quality, but I use them for work and am on zoom calls half the day and they work perfectly. I’m not sure what the fuss is all about on that front, but if that’s a hang up of yours hit the buy button and don’t worry!

Excellent pair of headphones. I got these because I'm now working from home and needed to block out others in my home and sounds in the street. These block everything so I can focus on my work. My only complaint is that my head is a little big and after about 5 hours, I need a 30 minute break because my ears feel a little pinched.

Excellent device switching on these. I stop my podcast on my phone and jump on Teams for work without any problems.

Overall this is a good product. I have Shure earphones. But I really like the xm4. If you think you can use this instead of the Pulse 3d, I would said go for it. Keep in mind that of you TV, pc or monitor doesn't have bluetooth, you will need to use the cable.

This was a great purchase. Sound quality is amazing. These are very comfortable - I can personally wear them comfortably for hours. I'm no expert and have only owned a very few good pair of bluetooth headphones - but these have been the best by far. I primarily use the ear controls to increase our decrease the volume, to stop the music, or to dim the sound when I want to hear someone speaking (an amazing feature). The holder from the seller was a great and useful add.

I have been using this pair for 1 ½ years and I had no issues with it until now. For some reason, it started doing some high pitch noises on the right earphone. It does it randomly and it is horribly loud. Quality wise, it's superb. The best pair of headphones I have ever own. The only issue is the high pitch noises.
