Have been using the Audioengine B1 for some time and have been super-impressed with the strength, quality, and sound. So, decided to try the Audioengine WiFi unit and these speakers. Fantastic system. I have hooked up the old Bang & Olufsen 9500 Beocenter home system and stream to multiple rooms from the Audioengine app. Had to contact the manufacturer for some tech support. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Overall, a very pleasant experience (except, of course, FedEx charged $126.53 for customs and processing!! Welcome to Canada). The AirPlay (mind you, not AirPlay 2) works well. In fact, the Audioengine app will stream to multiple Audioengine devices - hence, not an issue. Very nice sound for the size. Don't expect size-defying booming bass. Physics. Would buy again. I will now stick with Audioengine environment.

This is for the wifi model of this (A1-MR). The audio quality seems great, but just the overall design is so bad it's not usable for what people would typically use these for.

It announces everything it does in regards to connecting to wifi. Including when you first turn it on. So every time you turn it on it announces very loudly "connecting to wifi," and you have to press a button on the back to turn it off. And when it disconnects, which is quite often, it announces really loudly "connected to wifi" when it reconnects. So if you forget to turn them off, you get to look forward to a loud announcement randomly late at night.

I have a work Windows laptop and a personal MacBook I was hoping to hook this up to. Airplay really just doesn't work for dedicated speakers. There is an incredibly high delay, like 2-5 seconds, whenever you play something. One thing I was planning to do was just turn the volume up on the speakers themselves to as high as I wanted it to go, and then control volume with the MacBook. Problem is every time I play audio for some reason it plays it at max volume for the Mac until I manually adjust the volume. This includes notifications and everything, even if I have the volume set to 0 for some reason it plays it at max. This only occurs with airplay.

I tried getting a 3.5mm splitter to hook both devices up to the jack on the speakers, but am getting horrible interference. Will try another 3.5mm splitter, but seems like this may not be an option either. But even then, given that you can't ignore the wireless functionality, I unfortunately have no choice but to return these.

I don't know if the bluetooth version of these would work any better. This is really poorly designed from a user experience perspective. Seriously, whoever thought to automatically start scanning for wifi and announce it super loudly whenever you turn on the speakers should be fired. What would make a lot more sense is to have to push the button or push and hold it after turning it on to put it into pairing mode or whatever to look for wi-fi, like just about every other device out there does. And notifications that it disconnected really aren't necessary, have notifications in the app that you are required to use to setup wifi, or just about any other way that isn't so obnoxious. Or at the very least, don't make it so loud.

Let me start out by saying the speakers themselves are excellent, great sound, good qualit, and look great too.
Unfortunately, I bought them to use in conjunction with a few more AirPlay2 devices such as a Sonos and Pioneer Receiver, and while they DO work with AirPlay, you CANNOT group them with other AirPlay2 speakers. For this reason I unfortunately returned them as they didn't work for the main application I bought them. So, for anyone looking if these have AirPlay, yes they do, but they are missing one of the best features of AirPlay.
