Update: 2018 - Sometime around maybe March of this year, the mouse started fighting with me in earnest. I can still use the keyboard, but the mouse is completely unusable. I'll probably order this product or something very similar eventually, but I don't have a current need to. Overall feel like I got my money's worth out of it.

Update: Six years later, I've completely worn off two letters, and partly worn off six others, but the keyboard still works, every key, and the mouse is still working. I have had a slight trouble with the mouse off and on where it'll double click when I click once, or click while I'm dragging. It's been off and on, and at one point, I got a new mouse, only for this one to start behaving again. That was almost six months ago, and the logitech mouse has been fine since. No other problems, and I'm still overall pretty happy with the purchase. I wouldn't go back to wired again if at all possible. It's just so much easier to clean, and the feel is right for me.

This thing is perfect. A couple things:

The keys feel fine. I am used to a laptop keyboard and wanted something with a mostly flat, slim profile. Reviews mentioning weird dimpled keys made me nervous-- for keyboard and piano, I'm really picky about what I want to be touching for hours. This thing, however, is perfect, comfortable, and non-distracting. The backspace key and all bottom-row keys, particularly the spacebar, are slightly out-jogged and convex-curved. It's subtle and cozy. Typing is a smooth and comfortable experience, and the little palm and wrist rest at the bottom is just enough for me.

The wireless quality seems good. I wanted a wireless keyboard and mouse so that when I hook up my Casio piano keyboard to my computer via MIDI-to-USB, I can drag my typing keyboard over to my lap or wherever else without having to fiddle with wires. I have a -very- small, dense space. This was more than adequate. The receiver was plug-and-play, worked perfectly, and I was never left wondering how to configure anything about it. The set comes also with a wireless receiver extension cord. This is basically just a USB extension cord, so I use it for other devices. The mouse has a cute little hidey-spot for the receiver underneath, too.

The battery life is more than fine. I keep forgetting to turn the keyboard and mouse off, but I've yet to replace batteries. I recommend getting Sanyo Enerloop batteries when you eventually have to replace the ones that come with the set. Since I always have them around, I'm not worried about battery annoyance or cost.

What else? The packaging was great, and the products are attractive and easy to use. I haven't tried the custom-programmable function keys yet, but I'll update this review when I do.

I have no complaints. I love this product.

1.0 out of 5 starsAwesome keyboard and mouse - some tricks to learn about the USB receiver
Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2018
I have had this mouse and keyboard set up for 7 years on a Dell computer. I have just upgraded computers and wanted the same mouse and keyboard to keep my feel on the keyboard the same. And I will refer to the Dell once and a while as my backup computer. So the new keyboard and mouse are working great now. Yesterday not so great as I figured one thing out. I had put the receiver in a USB port directly beside the USB connection for my laser printer. When I was printing, the mouse would stutter, freeze, or disappear. I have a new Duracell battery in it, not the cheap supplied battery. But I was noticing a pattern, and yes, when I typed, sometimes what I typed took several seconds to appear. I now re-located the receiver to another USB port not near the laser printer cable. And mouse speed and typing speed are back to their exceptional fastness. So for anyone encountering the drag problem, get the receiver away from printer cables, or possibly other USB devices. I would think external hard drives and DVD players would not be as big of an issue as a laser printer. But they could be.
And for those who actually complain about the noise of the keyboard, yes it makes noise. If no radio or TV are on in the room, you will hear every keystroke. But it is not a loud annoying sound, it is just the flow of your work. The keyboard feels great to use. You get to snap the keys a little and they respond well. A fair trade off for a little bit of noise. And if the noise is a problem, turn up the music a little. The fan in my laser printer next to me is far more annoying than the keyboard click. Better than having to shove your fingers on the keys to get them to respond.
4-10-19 Add on and change to review. I am purchasing another one because very possible this set is a bit defective. Having a problem with the mouse. It seems to be receiving a single to double click or click and drag when I am just single clicking the button. Not a dirt problem, not a battery problem, and I am pretty sure it is not a driver or setting problem. I have tried several times of setting the double click speed both faster and slower. It is becoming difficult to select a block of text with it. So I am replacing it after a year. Just goes to show you that in a production run of products, sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get a bad one.
1-19-21 another add on to this review. The mouse is crapping out again. Obviously the newer mice are made more cheaply and that left click button does not hold up. Getting a bit tired of it. Really like the keyboard, allows me to type fast and accurate (most of the time). But these mice. Come Logitech, put some quality back into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ther Perfect Compliment to a Media Center Setup
Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2011

Having a job again allowed me to get back into the computer world, and revamp my media center pc! Logitech has always been a company of choice for me. They have a solid past and what looks like a solid future.

At first glance in the packaging the keyboard seemed smaller then I anticipated, but turned out to be the perfect size. Sitting atop my coffee table, it takes up a comfortable amount of space, with more then plenty of space to spare for the mouse as well as drinks or anything else your heart desires (My heart doesn't desire drinks around my keyboard).

One thing you can't tell from the pictures on Amazon, or Logitech's site for that matter, is this nice clear plastic bezel that goes around the entirety of the keyboard. Many of you have tv's from Samsung or another company that have a similar feature around the edge of the tv. Along with the glossy black that surrounds the keys, it's incredibly appealing. Do note, glossy things look sleek, but are finger print magnets!!! :)

Something keyboard enthusiasts look for is a certain click and feel with the keys. Right now it feels odd to me since I've been using a terrible keyboard and mouse for quite sometime. However, it will definitely grow on me. The sound from the keys is gentle and the keys don't drop hard at all. They have a soft click, but not too soft. The keys are also spaced perfectly.

The media keys are fantastic and work great with XBMC, however, I wish there were more. It's got more then my last keyboard did though, which makes all the difference.

The mouse that comes with the keyboard is a Logitech M310. This mouse blows my previous mouse away, which was a Logitech LX3 wired mouse. The mouse is shorter then my previous mouse, which I originally thought would feel weird in my hand. I was wrong. The mouse sits comfortably in my hand, and along with the rubberized grips, has a more then perfect feel.

The only complaint I have about the keyboard is the build quality. The clear plastic bezel that goes around the edge of the keyboard feels shady in some spots and wiggles a bit in another spot. However, when taken into consideration, this does not affect the use or need of the keyboard at all and does not bother me.

My final thoughts? This is an awesome keyboard/mouse combo that I would suggest to anyone. Take into consideration that when buying a new keyboard or mouse, it may feel different at first, but don't be afraid of different. It will grow on you, and for the better. This set is the nicest set i've had in a very long time. Logitech continues to remain a crucial part of my setup, and will for many years to come.

A. Gift For You
5.0 out of 5 stars Another solid Logitech product!
Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2012

I purchased this keyboard and mouse to use with my Lenovo ThinkStation office computer because I have Logitech speakers which have worked very well. These replaced the USB keyboard and mouse which originally came with the computer and I have nothing but good things to say about them. This keyboard and mouse comes all ready to go, you just plug in the receiver and pull a tab out of the keyboard and mouse. Windows 7 Enterprise recognized the receiver right away and within seconds I was typing away. I'm not very tech savvy, but the software for the keyboard that you download from Logitech's website was very easy for me to use and lets you do things like check the mouse/keyboard battery level and program what you want the function keys to do. The function keys are very useful, you can go back and forward in web pages, open the calculator, open Outlook, open My Computer, and I was able to program others to open other software I use. The mouse is very comfortable in the hand and has a good weight that isn't too heavy or light. The wireless works very well, my computer tower sits a good five feet away and it still works as fast as USB. Even if your tower is further away, Logitech includes an extension cable for the receiver so that you can move the receiver a couple feet closer to you for a better signal.

Other thoughts: In the pictures, it looks like the keys and palm rest have a soft coating like the keys on the newer Dell Latitude laptops. That's was what I expected, but they are actually hard plastic. After typing for a while, though, I think I prefer the hard plastic. The keys are also nicely rounded and provide a good amount of tactile response so it is a very nice keyboard to type on. I also like that the mouse doesn't use the conventional red light on the bottom to track movement, it uses a non-visible laser. My only complaints would be that to use the keyboard's handy ability to stand up straight, you have to push down the levers that hold the keyboard up on one end, and that there are no lights to indicate whether Scroll Lock or Num Lock are on or off (although when you push one it tells you on the screen 'Scroll Lock Off' for example.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and am now the envy of my coworkers. I may also buy another set for my home computer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great keyboard and mouse set; Logitech stands by its products under warranty
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2017

I bought my first MK520 set a couple years ago. The mouse and keyboard both worked great until recently I noticed my left mouse button wasn't working properly. It would register single clicks as double clicks and wouldn't always register when I was performing a long press. Because I was still within the warranty period I contacted Logitech and requested a replacement. After providing proof of purchase from Amazon, Logitech sent me a brand new MK520 set. The warranty process took about a week -- all by email -- and was easy and painless. I was very pleased to see Logitech stand by its product and send me a replacement mouse and keyboard even though my keyboard was still working perfectly.

Now that I have the new set, I am enjoying this product even more. The latest version of the keyboard has different keys than the set I had previously. The keys feel a little more "gritty" which allows my fingers to grasp the keys better. Not much changed about the mouse, but it was already adequate. Wireless signal strength is still great and never was an issue. Battery life is much better than the cheaper Logitech set I owned several years ago before my first MK520 set.

Overall I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it for anyone looking for a decent keyboard and mouse at a reasonable price. Also and most importantly: if you run into any problems or defects with your keyboard or mouse and you're within the warranty period, contact Logitech! They will work with you to rectify the issue and will send you a free replacement if need be.

(Note: one star was deducted from rating because the first mouse failed. While Logitech did a great job resolving the issue, the fact is that it still occurred.)

5.0 out of 5 stars I spend around a 1/4 of my life using a computer

I appreciate a subtly well designed product which enhances the users experience without being distracting.

This keyboards slim profile, ergonomic quiet keys, and convenient wireless seamlessly integrates into my computer setup. The range of the wireless on this keyboard is very good. I have personally been through a number of different keyboards to try and find a solution which would allow me to move my keyboard from my computer desk to the couch to control my entertainment. This setup is the only one which lived up to my expectations. I have owned the keyboard and mouse combo for about 2 years now. The battery life on this device is amazing. I try to remember to turn off the devices when they are not in use but I will frequently leave the devices on for weeks and I have maybe replaced the mouse battery twice and the keyboard battery one time. I am a very heavy computer user (I'm not talking about body weight). I have become so accustom to this keyboard I cringe at the thought of using any other keyboard. Most of my computer peripheral devices are Logitech. They make a superior product for an affordable price. The unified receiver is great for pairing any other Logitech mouse to your setup without using another USB port.

Best of all this product rarely interferes with my computing experience. Obviously, the batteries will eventually run out but they are simple to replace. For those of you who are gamers, who worry about the response time of a wireless keyboard, fear not! There is no noticeable lag. I would recommend you not try and game more than 20ft away from the receiver. Sometimes keystrokes get delayed in a buffer. All of the keystrokes will eventually reach the computer but occasionally they are delayed if you are far away or have many items between the keyboard and receiver. This is perfectly fine for those of you just typing work document as the lag only lasts a second or so. However, this could be frustrating for a gamer. A direct line of sight with the included USB extender for the receiver will eliminate this issue.

The mouse is equally responsive. A very ergonomic design. The clicks are quite but noticeable. The scroll wheel clicks slightly as it is spun to give the user some feedback to how fast they are scrolling.

I will admit, I am a kind of snob when it comes to keyboards and mice. These tools are the bridges between your ideas and the machine with which you are working, so they HAVE to be very comfortable and easy to use.

Two questions I had were:
1) How's the battery life?
2) Will this work out of the box with a Mac?

I am pleased to say that the battery life is exceptional and yes, both the keyboard and the mouse get along quite well with the Mac OS out of the box. I have left the switches on for the mouse and keyboard for several times while I forgot about them and did something else. Retrospectively, I am impressed to see that this hasn't run down the batteries on either peripheral yet. As to installation, it couldn't be easier. Just plug in the mini-USB adapter and Mac automatically detects a new keyboard. Turn yours on, go through the quick recognition process, and you are set to go. The mouse works with no setup. There are no drivers, no accompanying CD's, and no overly-technical manuals about which to worry. Plug it in and it "just works."

As an added keyboard bonus, I am pleased to say that the PC power button and the keyboard battery check button work as they should. Also, all the media buttons up top communicate very well. I wasn't expecting any of these to work, seeing that they're tailored for Windows, but I'm glad I'm wrong. As a peculiarity, the Print Screen and Pause|Break buttons adjust the brightness of the display. Odd, but neat in any case.

Typing with the keyboard is very quick and responsive. The keys have enough "punch" to them, but they aren't overly-mushy either. Logitech has found a good balance between the two attributes and hit a sweet spot there. The mouse also feels comfortable and has lasted me through many classes. The invisible IR laser it uses is a nice touch.

If you'd like a long-lasting replacement to your previous keyboard and mouse without a large USB adapter, this is the set for you. Though the size of the keyboard makes it ideal for desktops, I find that it works quite well on the road too.

Logitech Wireless Combo Mk 520

Packing box contains:

Wireless keyboard with batteries
Wireless laser mouse with batteries
Wireless receiver dongle
USB extension cable with dongle bay
Instruction manual
Generous packing materials

Personal Experience:

I purchased this for a home theater computer at an operating distance of about 20 feet.
Installation was a snap. No software to load, no hiccups, no frustration...true plug and play.

Mouse and keyboard input are recognized 99% of the time without any lag, but for the scant 1% input is not, could pose a problem for online game players. However to be fair, a true online gamer would have different controls, and likely a different box. For my personal application, the Mk 520 was a perfect solution. Both the keyboard and mouse have on/off switches to conserve battery life. Both keyboard and mouse require (supplied) AA batteries in pairs.

The keyboard size is standard desktop dimensions, has a pleasingly quiet tactical feel, contains enough function keys to please most any user. The numeric keypad is separate and logical.

Some items to keep in mind when using this keyboard in low ambient lighting:

Caps Lock key has LED indicator on key, Number Lock key does not.
Keyboard has no back light or illumination.

Observations:

I have found that when the keyboard and mouse are in direct line of sight of receiver the functions are spot on. Should the keyboard be placed at a 60 degree or greater angle you may encounter lag or loss of input entirely depending on angle.

I can use the keyboard with my left hand while simultaneously using the mouse with my right hand which is convenient for alpha numeric input while filling in context sensitive forms. Placing the keyboard to my left on a sofa pillow and using the mouse on a laptop lap board works well for me. When I am done I can turn off both keyboard and mouse, place them on the board and slide them under my sofa out of sight.

Conclusion:

Overall the Logitech Mk 520 Combo serve my needs expertly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great simple wireless combo
Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2014
Verified Purchase
If you are looking for a no frills, but quality wireless solution, you really can't go wrong with this combo.

PROS
Inexpensive full size keyboard and wireless mouse combination
Unifying receiver

CONS
Mouse could be better

UNIFYING RECEIVER
If you've never had a wireless setup before, Logitech's Unifying receivers are tiny, work well, and some products offer a wired USB "extender" to plug the receiver into and then wire to your computer. It's handy if you want to use front access ports for other devices and not waste one for this receiver. It also allows you to move the receiver somewhat if you happen to get interference from something else. This combo included one of those extenders. The receivers are easy to setup and pair to any Logitech Unifying device.

NO FRILLS KEYBOARD
I've had a lot of keyboards over the years, and a lot of wireless solutions. My needs are simple in a keyboard. I found I simply never used keyboards with a million extra buttons on them. There are a few on this keyboard, but you won't launch a nuclear holocaust sequence with them. I'm not a gamer, so I had no consideration for that either.

NICE FEEL
The keys have a very low "action" to them and typing is very smooth. I find the texture of the keys on the other hand are not perfectly smooth. Sounds weird, but if you felt them you would understand and it seems to help set your fingers into the keys.

I DO NOT type correctly. I started typing at the age of 6 (no big deal today, but this was the 70s) because my dad was a geek and we had a vacuum tubed mini computer in the house. I had no training, tutorials, nothing. You'd laugh if you saw me type and wonder how I type as fast as I do. So, I can't use any keyboard that's "split" for typists. I can't handle funky shapes to them. Just basic keyboards. I used to always prefer nice mechanical switches in the keys, with a real positive feel and some force with feedback. I am considering replacing the other keyboards that I have now with this, if I could find it available without the mouse.

THIN
Physically, the keyboard is quite thin. If you are accustomed to always having some form of keyboard support in front of your keyboard, this keyboard may drop below your support and not be flush. I personally hate the supports, so this is not an issue for me. There is enough of a "rest" with this keyboard that I feel it totally suffices and other inexpensive keyboards do not provide that spacing. They just drop off into your desk below the space bar.

MOUSE
The included mouse isn't great. I have several Logitech Performance Mouse MX units that I use for desktops, and several other of their models for my young son's laptop as well as units I use with laptop tables in the bedroom and other places. Obviously, this throw in can't compare in any way to an MX model, especially for the price, but I think they could have included a better wheel and middle button support type mouse with this combo. Logitech's other inexpensive mice are much better than this one in my opinion. I'm knocking a star off for it.

RECOMMENDED
I simply can't find anything wrong with the combo. I honestly just wanted the keyboard. I was replacing a model they discontinued and wasn't looking for a combo. If you need a good wireless keyboard with a mouse, you can't go wrong here and I highly recommend it.

Usher
4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly really good. Mouse a bit small.
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2015
Verified Purchase
Nice-looking, full-size keyboard. Met nearly all my requirements, was not very expensive, and I have few complaints, so I'm giving it 4 stars. It somehow falls short of being really great though. In a do-over, I'd try something else.

Pros for me:
- Biggest advantage is that the mouse and keyboard are on one USB receiver, so it only takes up one USB slot and I can swap both accessories to my work laptop in a heartbeat. Very quickly recognized by either computer.
- Includes both a Windows key and a Function key with nicely labeled (and gold color-coordinated) functions on the relevant keys, plus grey volume control buttons and a calculator shortcut key. (Plus other stuff, but these are the shortcuts I use a lot.)
- Bottom front of keyboard has rubber feet to reduce sliding (but it won't stop it), and a small stand to lift the back up. The stand is a hair shorter than I'd like it to be, but it's fine.
- Has a battery indicator, which only comes on briefly when keyboard is turned on, and presumably when battery is low; and has a quick on/off switch that would reduce battery drain if I used it, I suppose.
- Has a normal-sized Enter key. Caps lock has a step on it (a little easier to find it when touch-typing).

Cons:
- Keys are very low profile. It looks nice, but as a touch-typist, I find it just a little harder to locate keys than on other keyboards with taller keys. Those gaps, it turns out, make it easier to navigate my way across the keyboard without looking. Also for some reason, the little bumps on F and J are a little less noticeable than I'm used to, so I find myself typing the wrong letters for a word or two before re-positioning a hand.
- A plus (and one of my requirements) is that the F keys are grouped in sets of four, which makes them easier to find as quick keys during gaming. But the gap between F12 and Print Screen is small enough to make it easy to tap the wrong one. Minor, but annoying.
- Not really a fair complaint (as it's likely true for every wireless keyboard/mouse), but response is not consistently fast. I notice this when typing sometimes (I can type fairly quickly) but most during gaming. It's not a gaming keyboard and I didn't expect it to be, and you shouldn't, either. You can expect to see some lag occasionally. Not enough to be detrimental under most use cases, besides gaming.
- The mouse is a little small. I am a woman and do not have large hands, but it feels a little small to me, with not *quite* enough support under my palm, causing a little hand fatigue if I use it for long periods. If you have large hands, it may feel too much like a travel mouse than something you want to be using all the time.

I'd recommend it, but not unreservedly.
