I have installed two of these cameras. The first was on a Ford Ranger pickup, in April 2014. Since then the truck has been kept outside in rain, snow, and cold in northern Minnesota, and the camera still works fine. Just completed the second installation on a Porsche Cayenne. Installation is easy. If you have any trouble figuring out your car's wiring, just do some Googling and you will likely find the answer.
The video quality is not fabulous, but it is fully adequate for my needs -- all I really want to know is, is there something behind me? This unit certainly tells you that, and the wide angle is an advantage as it shows a considerable area to left and right. After all, you don't want to see just what is directly behind you, but also anything approaching from either side. The wide angle also means objects are closer than they appear, but this seems a fair trade-off for wider field of view.
Also worth noting that you can mount this in places other than the license plate, though the manufacturer does not intend that. On the Cayenne I mounted it to the plastic shroud below the rear bumper (the Cayenne's license plate is on the rear hatch, far removed from the reversing light wiring). Removed the metal bracket that is attached to the camera with four small screws, bent it to desired shape, drilled holes in it to accommodate machine screws, re-attached the bracket to the camera, and mounted it.
Would also note that if your car has an overhead console, you might be able to tap into power there and mount the camera up there in an unobtrusive position. I did this with the Cayenne, putting the camera in the little hatch intended for stowing sunglasses.
