I did not want to spend hundreds on carpet cleaning for my house even though I desperately needed to do some thing. Carpet cleaning with a company that I have used previously would have been over $500 for my house so I decided I would invest in this machine. I previously had another carpet cleaner which had heat as part of the drying system, and I loved it however, something broke, and it was extremely difficult to get a replacement part and it was expensive. so I decided on this machine based on the reviews. It is extremely easy to set up. If you are not handy, do not worry there are only about five simple steps to assemble the machine. To be honest, taking it out of the box was the most difficult part . The tank is a great size if you have an average or slightly larger than average living room, you will be able to complete your living room on almost one tank. There is great suction on the machine and there is a ball that pops up when the machine gets too full or something is stuck and that will remove the suction process which will alert you that you have to clean the filter or empty the tank. what I love most about it is that it was very lightweight and very easy to use even though the tank itself is large. Make sure you vacuum very well before hand because the filter is very finicky and I realize that there was an area of my carpet that I did not vacuum very well and something got stuck in the filter. The filter itself is just a plain sponge like piece that you rinse off with hot water in your sink . The only time at this point I would use a professional cleaner would be if I had something happen to the carpet that I wanted a different opinion on. This machine also comes with an upholstery cleaning attachment, which is also amazing because sold separately that is already about half the cost of this unit. It does come with a very small bottle of cleaning solution. I advised that if you buy this go ahead and also order or purchase another bottle of cleaning solution because that little bottle will only do a small room. No retractable cord but that is OK.

Company is oblivious to the issues with SpinScrub Brushes

Initial reaction when I had first received this Carpet cleaner, was pretty good. Opened the box, only thing I had to assemble was the handle and it was ready to go. Most of the 5-Star reviews have covered the good part of its functioning. I will highlight what they may not have experienced yet.

The SpinScrub brushes makes the spinning action using a turbine mechanism. This turbine has cheap parts and it starts rusting as soon as it comes in touch with water, which could happen right after the first wash. This issue has been widely reported in Hoover's other models as well, and yet Hoover's clueless Engineering team is unable to change the design or the parts and keeps on using non-stainless steel and cheap parts which seize to operate, right after they come in contact with water and rust.

When I experienced this issue as I was getting ready to use the machine, I did an online search and numerous videos on how to fix the Hoover carpet cleaner's turbine mechanism. It's just been a year and have used the cleaner twice. I am very handy with fixing things. So, I thought, I will give it a try before calling Hoover for warranty claim. In my case though, it won't fix as the shaft between two bearings is completely rusted and jammed. The bearings are rusted too, tried using WD-40 and tried to move the part but it won't budge.

I have now sent a message to Hoover Support, let's see how quickly they can have it fixed. I will come back and update the review accordingly.

----- Update as of May 4th -----
My machine was still under warranty. I had contacted the Hoover Support via email but they refused to send the affected part and instead referred to me to their authorized service center. I tried to reason with them that it's waste of time for me drive about 11 mi to take the machine for a problem which I have already diagnosed. They refused and reiterated to take it to authorized service center. I had eventually taken the machine last week to service center. The service center folks were very receptive and told me that this is a common problem but good for their business. Warranty or not, they get paid either way.

Service Center had called me last Saturday that they had replaced the part under warranty. I just need to now pick it up.

----- Update as of May 6th -----
I picked up the machine today and it has a new turbine that rotates the SpinScrub brushes. This repair was done under warranty but I am concerned that warranty would soon expire. So, I asked the service tech about what options I have when (not if) it happens again. He told me that the part is about $30 and their service fee for changing the part is $20. So, I will be looking at $50 expense every time this part needs replacement as the company WILL NOT ship the part directly to consumer even if they could handle the repairs themselves.

An additional fact to keep in mind before you pick this cleaner.

Cleans Better Than Others I've Used

I threw away my Bissell carpet cleaner and bought this one. As you can see in the picture, the Hoover did an excellent job cleaning where our Golden Retriever likes to lay down, as well as cleaning other less challenging areas. The design has a lot of features very useful for pet owners. For example, the dirty water reservoir can be disassembled for cleaning, so pet hair can be removed. The agitator brushes run in circles so they don't clog with hair.

I wish the suction was stronger, though relatively weak suction seems to be universal in home carpet cleaning machines. Also, I wish the unit held more clean water. One has to reload water about every five minutes, though that too seems a common feature in home carpet cleaners. I like that the water reservoir has a separate inlet for detergent so there is no need to measure detergent separately. That's a real time saver!

While not perfect, I'm giving five stars because the cleaner works well and is a good value for the money. I'd be happy to pay more for a stronger suction motor and an integrated water heater, but this gets the job done pretty well at a very reasonable cost.

I had a previous model that worked for 10 years and would have continued to work if my puppy hadn’t chewed through the cord (yes it was unplugged) this one is much lighter so easy to push. Assembly was fairly simple. I like two tanks which was lacking in my older one. I’ve recommended to family and friends why four and not five stars? It is more cheaply made so my guess is it won’t have the long life my sturdier one had. Still it does the job well.

Warning: don’t read if your stomach can be turned easily.

My in-laws own a carpet cleaning business, so it was frowned upon in our family to have a personal use machine and to not have them, the pros, cleaning our carpets. But - they live 2 hours away and don’t want to spend their limited visits to our house cleaning. After some convincing and research, we decided to get this machine. I used it immediately for normal cleaning and was happy with the results.

However, this machine became a true STAR this weekend when my daughter was sick. When I say sick, think child has attended a party with pizza, junk food, and blue kool-aid, and had fun in a bounce house for 2 hours. Then came home and threw it all up on your carpet at 2am. Remember the blue kool-aid? Yeah - that resulted in our bedroom looking like a Smurf had been murdered. Blue. Vomit. Everywhere.

I was so overwhelmed… I got the large “debris” picked up…. But didn’t want to get any closer, so I got out the carpet cleaning machine and started with just a rinse cycle. After the first pass, the room was looking less like a Smurf murder scene and more like a Smurf injury scene. It suctioned up remaining small “debris” and surface liquid easily. There was a spark of hope. I went ahead and did a second pass of just water and this baby sucked up a lot. Spark of hope growing!
Then I ran a soap cycle (I used the pet specific soap to neutralize odors). It got scrubbing and was making solid progress. I ran a second soap cycle and then a rinse. Things were looking passable at this point. Like the floor of a freshly vacuumed dorm room: not ideal, still some blue streaks, but I didn’t have to immediately replace carpet or burn the house down.

Now here is where I went rogue and ignored the “manufacturer’s suggestions” and my in-laws directions, but it was 3am and I no longer cared; my end goal was carpet without blue stains. I put down and suctioned up quite a bit of soap and water over the next half hour. I let the machine pause over trouble areas to do some extra scrubbing. I just kept at it.
After like 30 minutes of this, it paid off. My carpet looks AMAZING and no hint of Smurf blood. My in-laws, the carpet cleaners, would say that the water got down into the carpet pad and that isn’t good, or that soap may have been left in the carpet fibers and can become sticky. I am willing to take those risks, because there is absolutely NO trace of the blue vomit. The carpet looks brand new and is fluffy and the room smells fine! I put a heavy duty fan on it overnight to dry, and by morning, there were no hints of the Smurf massacre from the night before.

If I didn’t have this carpet cleaning machine to save the day, I would have moved out and let the house be taken over by the bank. This machine paid for itself in one hour.

Some small cons:
- When I have soap in the soap compartment and am doing a water-only rinse, soap still comes out a bit. I have to run the machine with no soap in it at all for the rinse cycle. No big deal - just a warning for you.
- Cleaning the machine after you’ve used it is a bit tedious. Especially the scrubby things; they get full of hair and stuff which really cannot be completely removed and that grosses me out.

Despite those small cons, if will give this machine a 5 star glowing review over and over again.

This machine is all that and a bag of chips!
First, it came exactly as expected, not missing anything. It did not leak. It works as described and then some! This thing cleaned a 22 year old carpet, in a bedroom, that had seen 2 kids (with several of their friends) and several cats and dogs, and had it looking almost new! Mind you, I’ve had several carpet scrubbers in the past and have scrubbed that carpet several times. The last time I scrubbed it was with a Kirby scrubber (waaay overpriced). When this machine was delivered, I went to town. When I scrubbed that carpet, I was shocked! The water was black. This is a low pile, berber carpet. Yet, even after previously scrubbed not long ago, this monster of a machine pulled so much up out of it that the water was black! I used it on all of my area rugs (again, just scrubbed with the crapper Kirby), and the water was black!! It’s truly an amazing machine.
It is so easy to use. The 2 tanks are wonderful, making it less likely to have to refill and dump often. It is a breeze to clean, as the piece in front that sucks the filth just pulls up and off, making it so easy to rinse out when using it. The hose for the attachments is so easy to clip on and use. It comes with two different attachments. One is a rubber bristled brush with several rows of bristles, and the other is the typical scrubber brush. They work great too, cleaning the arms on light beige couches. The cord is so long, making it so easy to do a large room without having to worry about an extension cord or unplugging and replugging. Attachments are in a bag with a hook on it that you can hang on the machine itself. Also included is a rubber mat, so that it doesn’t leak on your floor when not in use. It even came with a little bottle of carpet cleaner.
I am, admittedly, a clean freak, and I’ve been through a lot of scrubbers. None has even compared to this one. I highly recommend this scrubber! It’s a beast! I can’t say anything about the longevity yet. I hope I don’t have to come back and edit this. It’s truly the best carpet scrubber I’ve ever owned. You can stop looking now and just buy this one!

Things I know you want to know:

// Worth it?
Yes. I paid $129 but would have paid more knowing what I know.

// Does it get deep?
Yes. I used Oxy carpet cleaner, but man does it clean.

// Noticeable difference?
Yes! You'll notice that my carpet is much cleaner. But keep in mind that my carpet is gray and beige, so it hides dirt well. But the fact that it's so much brighter is undeniable proof that this machine does a great job.

// Easy to learn?
Yes. After a while, you'll get the hang of it and know when to release more shampoo on areas that need the extra treatment. But it's easy to use.

// Easy to maneuver?
Yes! It's light even with a full gallon of water. And it's just like a vacuum. It's surprisingly maneuverable and smooth. No kinks in the motion. Very smooth.

// Long cord?
Yes. My living room is huge (the furniture is still in the living room in the picture, not in another room), and I only had to plug it in another socket to get around the furniture.

// How often to refill?
This depends on how fast you are cleaning. Normally you want a slow, deliberate pace. I can go for 10-15 minutes before needing to dump the water.

You'll know when when it's time to refill when 1: You hear the suction sound change to just being a motor around
2: You'll stop seeing water being pulled in when you back up
3: The orange ball in the dirty water reservoir has risen to the hole. This is a sign that the dirty water is as high as it can go, and the cleaner will stop sucking in more dirty water.

// Easy to pour and refill?
Yes. You'll develop a quick change routine: pour dirty water; rinse sink while refill water is getting hot; refill and go. There is almost no way to over fill. The engineering has angled the reservoirs in a way that makes this extremely difficult.

// Shampoo
If you have a big house, I'd say get more than 64 oz of shampoo. There's nothing wrong with having leftovers. For a normal house, 64 should do all the rooms.

// Sturdy?
Very. I didn't have any mishaps but I stepped on the hose and it did not break.

// Stairs? Attachments?
I didn't do the stairs yet (hey, my house is big) but I tested the attachments and they are up to the task. The hand scrubber tool has lots of brushes and they rotate with power! I did my couch and it scrubbed out a stain I didn't think would come out.

Anyway, I'm tired of writing. Just get it. If this doesn't tell you it's worth it, I don't know what will. I'd like to be with some ladies right now but instead I'm taking the time to write this review because I'm so impressed with it. If you don't like it, you can return it, and you're covered with 2 year warranty, I think. The game I'm watching on the TV just mentioned a Slurpee. Maaan I want one of those right now. You should get one after you get this because you can clean up any mess you make.

Still pulling dirt out of our carpets

I was a bad home owner and didn't clean my carpets for close to 20 years through 2 kids and 2 dogs. This machine has been working well to pull that ancient dirt out of the old carpets to try and get them to last just a bit longer. It really seems to work well, and the carpets dried far quicker than I expected. The plan is to clean the carpets every 2 months. The spot brush seems to work pretty well, but not as well as the main machine, but that is as expected. It was easy to set up, and just remember to use cleaning solution for a few passes and then water for a few passes, and don't forget to switch the knob and check you are on the correct setting.

I bought this from Amazon. When it came in, I started it right up and it worked so well!!! Cleaned my old carpet to almost look like new. However, when I refilled, there was a gasket that was not seated properly. I tried to get it in. I had noticed it at first, but did not realized it was not right. From then on it poured water all over my floor.
Was going to just take to Amazon and return. I had pictures of everything. But they suggested contacting the manufacturer, so I did. They could have just replaced the piece that the gasket was on, but instead they asked me to completely destroy the old one - send me pictures of that, and then they would send me a new product. So I did that - cut off the power cord and all the labels and send a picture. They were supposed to have a new produce to me in 7 to 10 days. Never heard from them afterwards. So, I called the company to see if I could get a tracking number. By this time it had been 2-3 weeks. The girl I talked to was really nice, but she said they were just behind so she sent me an copy of an order for the new machine. Got that machine in about 10 days - or thought I got that machine. Then 3 days later received another machine. I was not home, so I would have just said I would not accept it if I had been here. But since I was not, my husband took it and then I had to see about getting it sent back. Should have just kept the thing. I spent hours trying to talk to someone - to no avail. One time it was my fault, because I left a call-back number, and my volume had been turned off by accident, so I did not hear when they called back. Tried online again and they figured out what they had done and said they would send me a return label, but would not schedule the pickup of the machine. They said FedEx would have to schedule that pickup. So - I get the label - from FedEx - but FedEx will not schedule the pickup - they say I have to get it scheduled through the name on the label, which is not even Hoover. So I call that number, go through I don't know how many pushing 1's 0's etc. Finally ended up back on the original Hoover line that never answers, but they will "call back". But they had already told me they WOULD NOT shedule the pickup and FED EX will not schedule the pickup, so I have to haul this machine to some location in my town on icy streets. and Hoover lets me know that if I do not do this, they will bill me for another machine - a machine they did not even know they shipped to me. Never again will I buy a Hoover product, I do not care how good it is.

My boyfriend and I live in an apartment with outdated carpet. It was quite stained when we moved in and we just recently got this machine! The amount of time that has flown by since moving in is kind of crazy. I honestly didn’t think that an at home carpet cleaning machine could get these old stains out. It took about three hours and 20 times of refilling the water to get this carpet clean enough. We went through almost an entire 116 ounce jug of Hoover carpet cleaner solution. I’m really glad that I got the big container of cleaner! I will definitely get more to clean the carpets in the other rooms. The lighting in our apartment isn’t great, but I hope that these images really show just how much the carpet got cleaned in one go!! I bought this cleaning machine around black Friday time, so it was on sale. Even at the regular price, I totally think it’s worth it!!

I did read that the machine was supposed to shut off automatically when it was time to clean the water tank, however, I just turned it off and cleaned out the tank and refilled the water every time the water and solution tank was empty. I think it really helped to get as much dirt out of the carpet as possible! I found this machine very easy to assemble and use. I did not have any issues with leaking like some other reviews stated.
