I do not have much experience with 4k monitors. This is my first experience with them, and I found this one for a reasonable price. Upon arrival, I opened the box and removed the hardware. It came with a stand (that was assembled from two pieces), the monitor, a power brick (much like a laptop charger), and a short hdmi cable (remember: unless the hardware-monitor and graphics card- both support hdmi 2.0, your 4k will be locked at 30hz, but, you can always use a DisplayPort cable if one piece isn't capable of 60hz). I set the monitor up and attached it to my mini-ITX gaming PC. I was absolutely stunned by the quality of the picture. It is beautiful. Putting a 4k few desktop backgrounds on, you could see the individual hairs on a lion's mane, the scales on an individual perch, and the moss blooms growing on a climbing rock. I may find some even better monitor some day, but this one is a beautiful entry level 4k monitor.
Cons 1: it took two weeks for Amazon LLC to put it in the mail after my order. Idk if that is true for other vendors, but I chose free shipping, and I would've chosen the $15 shipping or whatever it was if I had known they were going to take 2 weeks to ship it. My bad, and I'll know better next time to pay for the shipping. To be clear, I'm very happy with the product, the shipping time was meh.
Cons 2: I wish the product was shipped with a DisplayPort cable as well. It only has hdmi and DisplayPorts. Idk, it's not like it's necessary, but, it would just be nice not having to order yet another thing in the mail that doesn't arrive at the same time as the monitor.

I bought this monitor to replace an 11-year-old LCD monitor. I mainly use my PC for photo editing. I had high hopes because this monitor had great reviews, both from users and from professional reviewers. Unfortunately, it came up short.

The problem with this monitor is its black levels. Even after calibrating this monitor, blacks look gray. In combination with the typical IPS/PLS corner glow, which this monitor has, dark images look washed out. Because of this, the overall image quality--aside from the higher resolution--was below that of the ancient monitor I was trying to replace.

There were other nuisances. The stand--which has only a tilt adjustment--is wobbly, and the controls on the monitor are not intuitive and are difficult to see. In this price range, I understand that a stand with full adjustments isn't realistic, but it should at least be solid.

To top things off, I had problems with Viewsonic's quality control. The monitor I received had had greasy handprints on it, and I thought it was refurbished. I requested a replacement from Amazon. The replacement monitor came with an obvious manufacturing defect: a hair trapped inside the panel, which was plainly visible when viewing bright images. After calibrating the second monitor and seeing the poor black levels, I decided to return it for a refund.

For the price of this monitor, I expected more, especially in the area of image quality. If it was 200 dollars cheaper, I would say it's a great value for casual use. At this price, I don't know who it's for.

In short, this is an okay monitor that's priced too high. I would recommend it for web surfing, office work, or casual media usage. For serious media work, look elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a 4K Gaming Display? I LOVE this one!
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2016

I've had this display now for about 2 months. I am a full on PC Gamer and got it specifically for that purpose, and I will say I am absolutely delighted with the purchase! I have zero dead pixels out of the box and it remains such to this day. The color is just outstanding (for gaming...I won't speak to the accuracy for photo or video editing). In fact, I would keep this over my previous monitor just for the better color. I did have odd issues with the Display Port wanting to lock to 30fps and I had to unplug and replug the Display Port Cable to get it to refresh properly...but when I switched over the the HDMI, it works flawlessly. There is definitely an issue with edge lighting bleed when on a Black screen, but it is something that I NEVER notice when in game...and I am one of those guys that is really bothered when my blacks don't look right. I will also say that when I run an intensive game that my system just can't handle in 4K, when I dial the graphics back to 1920x1080, it seems to look worse than on my native 1080p monitor. It has this hazy or fuzzy feel that is almost imperceptable, but it just doesn't seem to scale as well as I'd hoped. Please note that I don't have any 'quantifiable' way of measuring that...it just doesn't look very good. I've not yet actually put the two monitors side by side to do any A/B testing either. All in all, I've loved gaming with this display and despite a few short-comings it is a fantastic monitor. Frankly, I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but since I can't I will settle with 4 stars since it does have a couple flaws (Display Port not refreshing properly, edge lighting bleed, seemingly poor upscaling). Even though I give it 4 stars, I can still highly recommend this to anyone that wants 4K gaming. As an aside, my PC specs are as follows: EVGA GTX 970 GPU, i5 2500K CPU, 8GB RAM

UPDATE 5/25/2016
UPDATE - I recently put my this 4k monitor side by side with my 1080p monitor to see if I was just crazy in the 4k display looking worse in 1080p than my native 1080p display. I had mixed results. For the most part games in 1080p mode did indeed look BETTER on the 4k display than on the 1080p display indicating that the upscaling was doing a better job than I initially gave credit. However, there were a couple cases where the 1080p display looked cleaner although not by much. This is, of course, just a visual opinion with no empirical data to back it up.

Regarding the edge lighting bleed, while playing Uncharted 4 on PS4 (yes, 1080p) there are a lot of dark areas in the game where the edge light bleed was really annoying...really. I turned down the brightness of the monitor to compensate, which helped, but nonetheless it was quite noticeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Monitor

I now have 3 ViewSonic monitors. This one is perfect! I had a larger 4K but it started killing my neck. Many programs are still not made for 4K so the type is so small you start trying to zoom in to see with your head and neck. The larger the monitor the smaller the lettering and while the monitor lettering is adjustable, some programs are not. The colors are bright and seem perfect. I edit art and photography. I would highly suggest this monitor.

Almost perfect...

Got one from warehouse deals, can't beat a 4k monitor for 350 bucks. It's a gorgeous monitor, almost perfect, BUT...

Inexplicably, the 3.5mm audio jack is an output, not an input. I get that most people are using HDMI or the displayport itself for audio, and that's all fine and good. But on a hackintosh you're probably not because OSX support for hdmi audio is sketchy at best, it's preferable to use analog output. So 4 stars for not having an analog audio input, a minor inconvenience. Otherwise a great monitor for a great price.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK display, audio is TERRIBLE!
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2016

I bought this for the specs, size and the fact that it has built in speakers. The specs are what you would expect and the display is nice. I'm not using it for gaming so I'm not pushing it to it's limits.
A few things to be aware of and why I only gave it 3 stars.
*) Power cord could be longer. It's a AC cord/power-block/DC cord setup with a overall length of ~6'. OK for most but I use the monitor on a roll about stand and would prefer a short AC cord with a long DC cord so the power-block isn't getting dragged all over the place.
*) No height or swivel adjustment, just back tilt (no forward tilt).
*) The combo HDMI/MHL input seems to be limited to 30Hz, I'm using the regular HDMI at 60Hz, haven't tried the Display Port
*) The settings menu buttons are under the front lip and not easy to use. Not a big issue since once set I have no reason to touch them anymore.
*) The built-in speakers are TERRIBLE. The sound quality sounds like a vintage 1970 pocket transistor radio at best. They also are on the back which destroys the stereo affect. I've had to order separate speakers which is one of the reasons I choose this, to avoid separate speakers. I don't know yet if the built-in amp will be enough (through the headphone jack) when matched with the powered speakers I'm waiting on (Logitech Z200).

If I had known the speakers were so bad, I probably would have chosen a different monitor (possibly without speakers).

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with 2013 Mac Pro in 4K/60Hz mode
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2015

Simply put, this is one great and very reasonably 4K monitor (got it only for $399 from Amazon while it was on backorder). I've tried using Dell Ultra HD 4K P2415Q Monitor with Apple Mac Pro from 2013 and it had a lot of issues (monitor often would stay in sleep mode on wake and would require manual power off/on). Colors look great and the screen is amazingly sharp. In order to connect to Mac Pro and have it run at 4K at 60Hz, you'll need to buy special Display Port cable (like Accell B143B-003J DisplayPort 1.2 cable that I've used).

The only cons are complicated setup buttons on the bottom of the display (it takes awhile to get used to them) and not very solid construction overall. I would not call it cheap-looking though. I just wish the base and the leg on which it stand were a bit more sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars NIce for the Price!

I received the monitor four days ago. It came nicely packaged and well protected. I have two XFX HD-7770 cards running in crossfire mode. While the cards are both long in the tooth with regard to age, they run the monitor at 4k. The cards can only get it to run at a 30HZ refresh rate, but since I'm not a gamer, that's ok. It's not the monitors fault.

I upgraded from a 7 years old Samsung 22 inch 226BW monitor. Of course, the colors and brightness are superb compared to the Samsung. There are no dead pixels nor light flare or bleed around the edges of the screen. Initially, I thought I should have gone with monitor larger than 24 inch as I had a bit more room on my desk. I'm glad I didn't The ViewSonic is not a snazzy looking monitor physically, but it looks good. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a height adjustment for the screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good option until 4K monitors with higher frame rates come to the market.

The most FPS you're going to get with this is 60 frames. I play SC II in full 4k, get very light screen tearing during the cinematics when using a GTX 1060. It's not barely noticeable and I've never had a problem during game play.

When I first used it the screen tear was really bad, but I turned off antialiasing and everything has been great since then. I rather have gotten a monitor that was higher than 60 hz, but they didn't exists for under $500 when I bought this. Overall I'm happy but waiting to upgrade in two or three years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great if you never use the speakers
Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2017

Take a reasonable 4k LCD screen and add speakers and you have a good AV display right? Nope, I don't know what genius at View Sonic though it was okay to put speakers into a monitor that has no direct way to change the volume but they should be fired.

Most, if not all, HDMI outputs do not give you a way to change volume, it's a fixed line out that the TV/stereo is supposed to amp and let you adjust. With this monitor you have to go into the settings menu, change to volume, edit volume, change volume, and then accept the change. Who thought this was a good idea?

On top of that the buttons are small, stiff, and hard to see. It took me a while using them to remember what each one was so I didn't accidently turn off the monitor when trying to change the volume
