If I rate this knife... Am I a "Gator-Rator"? *badum-tiss*

Have really enjoyed having this knife. The knife is exceptionally well made - the fit and finish really is superb and I can say that it is arguably the nicest knife I have ever owned. The only gripe that I have with any of the knife is that the sheath feels a little cheap. It works... and works well, and would even feel nice for any other knife, but when looking at the quality of the knife, it just seems a bit dull.

The knife is RAZOR sharp, literally razor sharp - I actually shaved a portion of my face with it before deciding that I would rather not have an accident and off-myself in my bathroom. The grip is superb, and the balance is excellent. The pommel works well for small hammering tasks and the blade is plenty strong, but not overtly heavy.

I had been looking for the perfect hunting/around the house/general duty knife - and I found it. Thank Goodness for Christmas Bonus so that I did not feel so guilty about buying it - because boy is it pricey. Is it worth it? Well - its up to you... Cheap knives will do what this does. No bones about it. But will they do anything as well? Nope. If other knives are Camaros, this is a Corvette.

Great Knife, with wrong size scabbard.

Knife and scabbard kook great together, but don't quite fit with each other. Saber is to wide for knife which allows knife to bounce back and forth, and up and down. If snap on scabbard opened accidently while jumping or running, knife would fly out. Needs scabbard with a deeper pocket and a narrower body to fit knife properly. The same principle applies for tightening your set belt, it prevent serious injuries in case of an accident.

I’ve sorta become a knife guy over the last decade although it was never my intent. I just kept learning more about the designs, materials, my own personal preferences and kept buying up. Before I knew it, I had acquired a pretty big collection of several high-end, semi custom knives with supersteels costing well over the $300 mark. However, I was never really happy with my dedicated hunting/field dressing knife. I bought this Gerber Gator Premium because of the positive reviews and I’m a huge fan of S30V steel.

Can I just say how impressed I was when I opened the box? The grip is amazing. The heft is impressive, and the balance is perfect. I can honestly say that it is the most comfortable knife to hold that I own.

The edge is very sharp and that’s great but I don’t really care about how it was sharpened last... It’s the qualities of the steel that matters, and S30V in my experience, properly heat treated, is amazing stuff. I always replace the factory edge anyway.

I should probably take a second to comment on the looks... holy cow. I knew it was beautiful in the pictures, but the upclose inspection of the fit and finish was beyond my expectations.

The sheath? Meh. But it works. As a dedicated hunting knife, this will be in my pack anyways and the included sheath is more than adequate for that. It should not be a deal killer for anyone. If you’re hung up that much about it, use part of the $100 to $150 bucks you would have spent somewhere else for a knife of this quality, and get one you like.

I don’t really do many reviews unless I’m really impressed or really pissed. This is one product I would be happy to recommend to anybody.

I recently upgraded from a standard Gerber Gator (drop point blade) to the Premium Gator. I had no issues at all with my standard Gator, as I had have had it for nearly eight years now and it has lasted a long time and still going strong. But, I decided to retire that blade and hand it off to a young relative that is coming up in age in need of a good knife for field dressing large game and general work.

My new Premium Gator is awesome! I mean, I really loved my old Gator, but the new one just makes me beam when I have it in hand. I do a lot of camping and bushcrafting, and this knife has served me well so far. Very sturdy, feels great in the hand, not too large or to small, holds its edge like a dream... the SV30 is a premium metal, and you can tell. It can do a great many things equally well, from food prep, wood prep, field dressing, skinning - it is a very sturdy knife. By a leather crop and give it a few swipes now and then and it will maintain its keen edge. You can't go wrong with this handy knife. Great for the hunter, general camper, or the bushcrafter.

A Premium knife from Gerber

I took a chance on buying this knife since there were no reviews and very little information about it. I'm glad a got it. It seems like Gerber is really trying to step up their game to keep up with a lot of other knife manufacturers out there. This is truly a premium quality knife. The 4" CPM S30V blade came sharp enough to shave with out of the box. The rubber gator grip handle is the perfect size and provides plenty of traction. Between the rubber grip and lower guard, there is little chance that the knife will slip from your hand during use. The overall fit and finish is perfect. I've looked the knife over very closely, and nothing is out of place. The blade has a really nice finish that looks like it was stone washed and then semi-polished. It is proudly stamped "Made in USA, Portland, OR." The sheath is a very nice black leather with a plastic insert to protect the blade and leather. It's a very simple design made to be carried on your belt (you do have to feed your belt through the loop). The sheath is also made in the USA.

I would highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a high quality fixed blade.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my son. While the Gator by Gerber has been around for a very long time. This edition is absolutely beautiful to the knife lover. The grip and balance are perfect. All of the metal is polished to a mirror finish. The knife is almost to good looking to carry. The leather sheath that comes with the knife is as well finished as the knife itself. And the black handle sets off the design of the knife. Once I saw it I hated to give it away but the expression on my son's face when he opened it was worth it.

If you live in Britain this knife is probably not for you. From the restrictions on knives that have arisen since your gun bans it probably would not be legal. Check you laws as I have done so at a distance. Hopefully our gun grabbers will continue to fail and will not consider such actions on this side of the pone. Of course if Hillary gets elected all bets are off.

This is an excellent knife. The blade metal is premium, the design and feel are marvelous and beyond comfortable, and overall would've been five stars if not for a few issues. The reasons i marked this down one star will be as follows...reason one: first when i recieved the package it look like hammered dog poop. IE: the actual Gerber box appeared to have been opened, smudges on blade, dirt on handle (ordered direct from amazon and this is the first time something appeared to be sent all second handy from them). Reason two: the sheath..it is well...(and this is funny to say when it has "Made in USA" printed right on it) shoddy craftsmanship. The leather was pealing up before I put it on a belt loop. I actually have a friend making me a new one as this one probably wont hold up ever over a month or so. Reason three: the knife was dull. When I spend over a hundred dollars on a "premium" knife I expect sharp. Not kitchen knife dull. Yet after I took this guy to a couple wet stones and a strop it is hair widdling sharp. The knife is amazing beyond the small glitches I encountered. As I said before this is an excellent knife and Gerber has finally worked thier way back into my heart (all that Bear Grillis crap they put out was real garbage). I am beyond happy that I was able to get this without serrations too. Currently one of my Favorite and most used knife.

The quality is definitely there on this blade. I got it as a Christmas gift for hunting but had already finished hunting for the year by Christmas time. The steel is very good quality. Comes with a high quality leather sheath that the knife goes in and out of very easily; make sure you use the button strap to secure it when carrying it on your belt. The gut hook and blade come reasonably sharp from the factory; certainly more than sharp enough to use as a hunting knife to skin and prepare game which is my intended purpose for it. The handle material and design is just right to give a comfortable but firm grip without slip yet soft enough to be comfortable and is plenty big to get good leverage with. I also like how it has the finger groove up by the blade to keep your hand from slipping up the blade if you do manage to slip somehow; something my previous knife lacked.

I had the original Gerber Gator fixed blade knife and I absolutely loved it - best knife I have ever owned and bought it back in 2001. I passed it down to my son who needed and wanted a good hunting/field knife. Bought the new and improved Gerber Gator and I think it is tons better than the original. The leather sheath could be a little bit heavier, but is really good. Knife holds an edge really well and easy to sharpen. Very well balanced. Great knife. Have lots of other Gerber knives but this is my 'go to' knife. Great hunting knife, camp knife, field knife - fits every situation. Since, I have given all my other knives (Scharade Old Timers, Gerber Strong Arm, Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife) to my son. This is the only knife I use for everything. Love this knife.

The best blade in my collection hands down, but first things first. Package arrived in 1 day (1 day shipping) however, the box it came in was half crushed, and the sheath inside scratched. The Knife and blade though, flawless, literally pristine, precision, quality. The sheath isn't the best fit for the knife, as many reviewers have mentioned. Mine wiggles a little, but I do think it is a higher quality sheath, just not the best fit. The knife feels slightly heavier than I'm used too, but now I'm completely used to it and I don't notice the weight. This extra weight though gives it quite the slice. I've never had to step up my knife handling / safety until this blade. It cuts so effortlessly, you won't even know that you have cut yourself, well, until later. The blade and gut hook are so beautiful and perfect, every detail is flawless. You can see your reflection in the blade. The handle leaves a little to be desired. It looks like great grip, but feels like okay grip, if that helps. Just beautiful all around. I will never overlook or underestimate Gerber again, and have gained a lot of respect for them after this purchase. I will be buying more from them in the future.
