5.0 out of 5 starsNever cared more about my light bulbs since I starting buying these!
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2019
I use these in my bathroom with an adapter cause Philips doesn't make these with the wider prongs. I also use led strips under my cofefe table, bed, bedside tables and dresser and also behind both my tv's. Was also thinking about getting some led strips for under the end tables in the living room now but these things get pretty spendy. Love the app and all the colors. I use color bulbs in my livingroom, kitchen, hallway and all 3 bedrooms as well. I would give 4 stars because of price but I still find these to be the best in quality and functionality so if over time they bring the price down and continue to support the app, then I might just keep buying from these guys.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat System, but These Are NOT Gen3 with Deeper Colors
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2017
Hue lights are amazing and these are great if you have the GU10 sockets in your living room or kitchen. However, these are not the latest generation (gen 3) of Hue, so therefore do not have the richer blues and greens that the recent generation have. The greens are drab and not deep at all. At the time of writing this review, Philips does not yet make Gen3 bulbs in the GU10 connection. I hope that they come out soon so that I can upgrade the rest of my GU10 bulbs.

These work great if you want to use them now and don't want to wait for the newest generation with deeper blues and greens... but if you don't mind waiting, the Gen3's will be much nicer with the deeper colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect. I love hue!
Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2019

I have replaced most of the GU10 recessed lights in my house with Philips hue ambience GU10 lights. I’ve also purchased several LED light strips and dimmer switches. After about 18 months I’m still a super happy customer, and will eventually replace all my lights with hue ones.

Even though the lights aren't exactly cheap, it’s still an affordable option when considering what a full home automation system costs, and this can be done in a modular fashion - expanding one room / device at a time and also combine it with dimmer switches and motion sensors. Also, in my experience the Philips hue interface (apps etc) also offers much more options and customizations than any full automation system I’m aware of. Furthermore, Philips still continues to expand their offering with new formulas, which is great - for example to control how the system should behave at certain time slots in the day, etc (read up on hue formulas). I have also combined my hue lights with Amazon’s Blink Cameras, and used the IFTT app to trigger the lights to flash if there’s any movement around the house.

I love almost everything about hue, however there are a few downsides / negatives I’ve picked up.
1) As mentioned, the cost. Even though the system is great and affordable to a home automation system, it’s still not cheap. I still prefer the quality and features of hue lights relative to the other systems though.
2) Sometimes the system will report certain lights to be “unreachable” even though they are fairly close to each other (the system works with zigbee, and the bulbs need to be within a certain distance of each other to communicate). The lights reported as unreachable still appear to function fine though, though sometimes with a slight delay compared to the reachable ones.
3). Even though it was not a issue with my GU10 recessed lights, these lights have a different size than some of the other GU10 lights. So please measure the size bulb that your system can accommodate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bulb, bigger than I thought
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2016

I purchased these bulbs recently about a week ago. These bulbs work great. I had a small issue pairing one of them. I had to manually enter the serial number. After that, I have had no issues. I do see a very slight color difference compared to my A19 bulb 3rd gen (with richer colors). I suppose this may be due to this being an older model. Physically, these bulbs are a bit wider and longer compared to your average sized GU10 bulb. Beware of this as some light fixtures may not support this. Other than those small complaints, I am still happy I purchased them. They do produce a rich great bright light. I was actually more impressed with these than I anticipated. 4 stars. Lost a star due to automatic pairing and size difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing to ever happen to track lighting.

It seems there's a lot of uninformed / unreasonable reviews of this excellent product. Maybe a more informed review will help? I've gutted entire spaces and replaced existing built-in lighting with various types of LED setups, I've set up several track light systems over the years - and I've even designed and fabricated my own light fixtures for HUE products.

The problems I have with most LED lighting are: integrated LED (lame idea for a developing tech), poor dimming range, flickering, noise, horrible color (the entire LED industry creates "2700ºK" lamps that appear to my eyes to be well above 3000ºK) and terrible color rendering. Despite all this, I do everything I can to find ways to implement LED.

Philips HUE has gradually allowed me to do more and more of what I really want to do with lighting. HUE bulbs really are the best thing to ever happen to high efficiency lighting, and this particular bulb has really opened up the possiblities for creating beautiful spaces - and in many cases saving lots of time and money in the process, enough to far offset the seemingly high cost of these bulbs.

Pros:

Dimming control is better than anything out there - plus you can control each lamp individually. This is the single best factor about using these bulbs on a track system! This and being able to make the light as warm or cool as you want (warmer than the other HUE GU10 that only does a limited white light range) - which leads me to color range:

Color control is not really about all the fruity rainbow colors. What it's REALLY about is the capability to make the light as warm as a candle - much warmer than even 2300ºK - or as white as daylight, or cold as a laboratory. You might want to play some color programs or other fun stuff, but the other HUE products are more suited to the more intense effects you can get from other apps. So, yeah you might not get neon green or black light purple from these GU10 HUE bulbs - but if you need those colors, you should order custom neon and buy some blacklights.

CRI is excellent - when you have the color temp at a balanced white. Of course, it's going to drop off as you move away from balanced whites. Some reviews have stated otherwise, but that's assenine. Color rendering going askew is kind of the point of changing the hue of the light around you.

Cons:

Limited track head compatibility: if anyone finds a better suited track head for this bulb let me know. So far, the only moderately suitable find has been Lithonia Lighting's LTHCYLD - a deep frosted glass cylinder track head with brushed stainless fixture base. (see provided photo)

It's important to note that this HUE GU10 bulb is significantly longer than other GU10 bulbs, (see provided photo) and it will not fit the clip on gimbal rings found on many GU10 track heads. I'm on the lookout, but the aforementioned Lithonia Lighting track head is the only compatible one I've found so far.

I need to find some sort of high tack bulb grip that is compatible to the smaller face of this bulb, and has a handle suitable for manipulating the bulb so that it can be attached to track heads with ease. Without it, installation is very tedious in the least. I don't think a suction cup will work, as the frosting on the lens is on the outside. (see provided photo)

Still, I love this bulb and am very excited to see what all I can do with them.

unlisted measurements you may find useful:

length of bulb: Hue GU10 white and color bulb is 2.5625" (minus the mounting posts)
width of bulb face: 1.9375"
width of lens: 1.3125"

(length of standard halogen GU10, minus mounting posts is 1.875")

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my purpose!

I purchased the Phillips hue GU10 to put in my tv alcoves as part of my home theater setup. I ordered 1 to start with out of concern the untraditional size would be an issue for my housing. I was extremely happy to discover the size was not an issue and they fit perfect. I have Globe Electric Swivel Spotlight housings— so if anyone is looking for something that will work- amazon sells them and I highly recommend they will work. I uploaded a video to show how the GU 10 bulb works synced with music and included a photo with one side hue and the other side halogen. I personally like the warm light of halogen. The hue can be adjusted to the same tone but it has a very different light distribution pattern so even with a color adjustment the light will appear different. That doesn’t bother me- that’s how LED’s are and it’s what I expect.

I currently have the bulbs hooked up to a lutron smart dimming switch- it’s pointless with hue (which is one thing I wish i could change) so will swap it out for a regular non-dimming lutron smart switch.

Great bulb- I ordered another one for the other side- looking forward to syncing them up for football this weekend!

5.0 out of 5 stars so much better then halogen
Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2019

The halogen lamps we had used a ton of energy and most of that was heat. These use a fraction of the wattage and put off virtually no heat. They work great with my existing hue infrastructure. I have them in the kitchen and have them set to gradually brighten the kitchen about 5 a.m. The gradual change in light is easy on the eyes.

A bit pricey, but beautiful!! I bought these to replace a set of dimmable LED spot lights that were "ok." The thing I liked the least about my old LEDs is that even at their dimmest setting, the light came out uneven. The Philips Hue bulbs emanate a smoother glow. The thing I liked the least about the Philips Hue bulbs is their price. In my opinion though, they're worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only flaw
Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2016

The only flaw is, when power to the bulb is turned OFF, hub will not remember the previous settings and restore to default color "Warm White, 2700K". As a workaround, I replaced the power switch with Z-wave enabled switch and integrated it with SmartThings (Any compatible home automation kit should work) s.t. it triggers color temperature change to "Daylight Energize" when switch is turned ON. Also, as a fallback, I also setup motion detection to trigger color temperature change to Daylight Energize.

Please note that in case you have Hue light strip, you must use color "White Concentrate" instead of "Daylight Energize" for it to work (not sure why light strip doesn't understand "Daylight Energize".

Order one to see how it would do with connecting and control. After reading the reviews I was slightly concerned. Let me start by saying I have the generation 2 bridge and I noticed many reviewers most likely had the gen 1 bridge. I got the bulb at 8:30 am after ordering yesterday afternoon about 4:35 so kudos to amazon on the quick shipping. Installed it this morning opened the hue pro app searched for a new bulb and bam there is was. I tested the colors and agree with other reviews the greens aren't great at all but the overall colors the bulb put out are plenty bright enough at 300 lumens. No issues with off and on or delay in control from the apps. Ordered 3 more before the 12 pm same day cut off to fill out the rest of the track lights.
