5.0 out of 5 starsQuiet and effective, and was able to reclaim two PCIe slots. Cores run cooler than ambient at idle.
Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2017
This cooler replaced an Noctua Heatsink fan combination. There was nothing wrong with it's operation, but I had two issues. One, it was a huge hunk of metal hanging off the motherboard. It didn't seem to affect operation, and I always transported the computer lying flat, but still.

The other issue was the profile. It hung over the first PCIe slot, and since I have a double width video card, I gave up a second PCIe slot. When I replaced the Noctua with the Arctic cooler, I found there is a gap between the first and second PCI slots (EVGA MB) so I didn't get one PCIe slot back, I got two.

I have a Thermaltake Chaser II case. It's massive. The CPU socket is close to a dual fan opening in the case. I had the Fry's tech install the cooler there, and there was plenty of length in the hoses to reach. I wanted him to set it up for intake , but he insisted on setting it up to exhaust. I had to change another fan to intake to try to keep up with the exhaust, especially since my video card exhausts air, too.

The case has a cover, and the fans are too tall to allow the cover to sit on the case top. I solved that by putting lengths of weather stripping on the case top, and letting the cover sit on it. I thought about modifying the cover, but then the fan blades would be exposed. The unit has two radiators, and two fans per radiator. Theoretically, I could have only put one fan per radiator, but since I have an 8 core Haswell CPU, I wanted maximum possible airflow.

A really neat feature is it's thermoelectric cooling. I have a CPU temperature gadget, and at least at idle, the cores run a couple degrees F cooler than ambient. How neat is that?

I have no idea how difficult it was to install. I had a Fry's tech remove the Noctua HS/F and my 6 core Broadwell CPU and replace them with an 8 core Haswell, and this cooler. He had them done in an afternoon.

The cooler and the fans sandwich the case where they are installed. There wasn't enough clearance to put them all inside the case, and if he'd put them all outside the case, they wouldn't fit under my computer desk.

2.0 out of 5 starsMaybe I got a dud?
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2018
This is my first liquid cooler. I'm coming from a Noctua NHD-15 which is a great air cooler. I have an I7-6700K overclocked to 4.6GHz. Noctua kept the temp at a few degrees over ambient during idle (~28C) and I never got over 55C under heavy stress testing and the fans on the Noctua are nearly silent all the time. The Arctic Liquid Freezer 240 is a different story. At idle, the Arctic keeps the temp at 33C with the fans in quiet mode; nearly silent. Under stress test, the Arctic Freezer doesn't come close to Noctua and is very similar to a low end stock cooler. My CPU peaked at 93C!!! and this was with the fans at 100% which sounded like an angry beehive next to my monitor. Very disappointing. With the large number of great reviews here, I can only surmise that I got a defective unit.

On the bright side, the installation was very simple. Documentation is very brief so look up a video if you need help. But, even with a simple install, if it doesn't adequately cool your CPU, what's the point? I'll be sending this one back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic In Every Way
Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2017

Pros:
- 240mm Radiator means that it will fit much better in most cases
- Push/Pull fan configuration provided out of the box
- Quiet
- Great cooling
- Adapters for fans provided
- Thermal paste included
- Easy instructions
- Price

Cons:
- Can't even think of any

I previously had a Corsair H60 and that worked well enough. I then switched to the Corsair H110i. Sadly, the radiator was slightly to big for my mid-size ATX case (still fit, but it was very tight) and the fan headers didn't work. I sent it back and picked this up. This one is way better in every way. It's smaller, cools better (probably due to the Push/Pull config), cheaper, and most of all, actually works! I am getting about 29* C (about 22* C ambient) with regular use and about 50* C under load.

While I still enjoy Corsair coolers, I think I'll be sticking with Arctic from now on assuming this cooler still works well years down the road.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cooler with an unmentioned Cooling plate!!
Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2016

This is one great cooler. I ordered this a while back. Hooked it up to an AMD FX8350 Black edition. Ran prime95 for a few hours and CPU only got to 41C. I noted that it ran colder than room temperature when idling. Today I swapped CPU's for an AMD FX-9590 (4.7/5.0Ghz). Hottest CPU out there right now. Spec say it must have water cooling. Well while I had this cooler disconnected I hooked the pump/cooling up manually to an outboarded power supply. This cooler has a cold plate in it !!!!!!!!!! That is why it runs colder than room/case temps. The CPU block got downright cold with only the pump running. Not cool, but cold. Back to the review :) The 9590 has been running Prime95 now for 3 hours. CPU temp is running 42C and has not exceeded 45C. I am using Noctua MH-1 thermal paste between the CPU and cooling block.

This cooler is well worth the money. Absolutely quiet with 4 fans set as exhaust in a push-pull configuration. The only con I found was watch how you tighten the cooling block. If overly tightened or not tightened in an even manner it can jamb the pump so it will not come on. I suggest that you disconnect your MB power and hook up a PS tester after you mount your CPU and tighten the cooling block. Make sure you can feel the pump running through the hoses without anything else being on. CPU will hit thermal cutoff in about 15 seconds with out the pump running. Just a word of advice.

Great cooler, but you do need a lot of room. 4 fan mount and thick radiator come out at about 3.8 inches thick when mounted. 6 year warranty makes it very desirable as well. I have dealt with Arctic Cooling on air coolers with a 6 year warranty in the past and they are very responsive and quick to replace defective units.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice water cooler with some caveats
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2016

Overall an excellent water cooler for the price.

Pros:
- Very quiet
- Excellent cooling capability.
- Push/Pull Airflow capability with 4 included fans that are daisy chained. (See Caveat below, however)

Cons:
- a ****** to install because of the 4 fans
- Needs a lot of free space in the case (row of fans, radiator, row of fans).
- Poorly written installation instructions.

I decided to give this a try after my Corsair H60 bit the dust. Overall it is an excellent water cooler for your CPU, but has several design flaws that make installation not for the faint of heart.

1. To install you need to position two fans on the case, then feed the screws through that are just barely longer than the fan, then screw it into the radiator. getting those two separate fans positioned perfectly then getting the screws lined up with the radiator is an interesting challenge, do you lay the case on it's side? Upside down hanging over a table? I ended up positioning the fans and securing them with twist ties, until I could screw the the fans into the radiator, A much better design would be some type of mounting bracket to let you mount the fans to the radiator, then the fans to the case instead of a single screw. or even a dual fan in a single unit to make it easier to position.

2. Because of the 4 fans, you need a lot of clearance to put all 4 in. You will be extremely challenged to top mount this in a midsize case. I ended up only using the two fans. Less optimal from a cooling perspective but still on par with most water coolers out there.

3. Just an annoyance, but the logo is upside down when you install it. If you have a nice windowed case that might annoy you.

Overall a really good value for the price and it works well. Just not the easiest installation I've ever done.

5.0 out of 5 stars A HUGE improvement over air cooling
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2017

Coming from a CM Hyper 212 air cooler, my 4790K used to have idle temps in the mid 40s and load temps of mid 70s while gaming. CPU stress tests pushed my temps into the high 80s and low 90s. This was with the CPU running overclocked at 4.8Ghz at 1.35V. All in all these temps are pretty normal for air cooling but I knew in the long run it was shortening the life span of my CPU and having spent around $350 for the 4790K, I wasn't happy with that.

In comes the Arctic Liquid Freezer 240. After hearing great things about it, including among the lowest temps offered by any AIO, and checking that it would fit fine in my case, I ordered the unit and can say I'm very happy with my purchase. Right now my idle temps are at 26C with stress CPU test temps hovering right on 49-50C. This is with the CPU running at 4Ghz at 1.2V. A huge improvement.

I even pushed my CPU up to 4.9Ghz with 1.365V and idle temps only pushed up a little to 32-34C with stress tests hovering right on 70C. A great improvement of around 20C cooler all around.

I should also note that the 4 fan set up is very quiet and at full load they make less noise than the 1 fan on the CM Hyper 212 I had running yesterday.

Conclusion: a great, no frills, AIO that doesn't have the fancy lights and colors of more expensive units but for the purpose of cooling a CPU, it does a great job and even better than many pricier AIOs out there. I'm not the type of person to constantly look inside my case so I don't care that it doesn't have RGB lights or that the CPU block is upside down. I just want it to keep my CPU cool and it does that wonderfully.

Happy days.

Just received my AIO cooler love the packing. I love that it comes with 4 fans and the price was something I could not pass up. Can't wait to get into it more with some tests.

Edit: 5/6/16
This should be for the Liquid Freezer 240 Looks like Amazon combined the two together and made the 120 first in line in the review. The 240 is a really big cooler with all four fans screwed on, I just put 2 fans on the cooler as an exhaust and the 2 extra as intake in the inner front case helping pull cool air in.

With idles temps with my old air cooler at 34 degrees Celsius with the Arctic Liquid Freezer is at 26 degrees almost a 10 degrees cooler from the air cooler which was a Arctic Cooler 64 which has been my cooler for the past 5 years. I am really happy with this purchase and this product.

EDIT: 09-06-17
Emailed Arctic support and in 2 days and 2 emails later I have got an AM4 retention bracket so I can upgrade to RYZEN. This is an awesome cooler with awesome support, there is no better brand to go with for all your CPU cooling needs.

EDIT: 07-05-22
5 years later I have upgraded my CPU from Ryzen 1600x to a 5800x. This cooler has not leaked and overheated in all this time. Granted I bought this cooler in 2016 I think i have got my moneys worth on this cooler.
The temps for my new CPU on idle runs around 37 to 40 degrees. This is a really good cooler and brand that i can still put my money into. I am not a heavy gamer as i was 5 years ago. If i do build another PC this brand will be going into my build.

1.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Specs, Poor Construction
Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2016

As far as cooling capability is a function of radiator coolant capacity, this system should perform wonderfully because the radiator is as large as any I have seen described for a 120mm cooler. So large, in fact, that if installed at the back of a case, it won[t allow a card to be mounted in the top pcie slot. Likewise, the fans move a lot of air quietly. However, in making a product that specs out well against more expensive competition, Artic must have cut corners in controlling product quality. My cooler arrived with a non-functioning pump. I would have been running my cpu uncooled if I hadn't checked the temperature readout on my motherboard.

Following my purchase, Artic sent me an email asking me if I was happy with their product and urging me to post a good review of it. Needless to say, I heard nothing from them after I replied that I had retuned the cooler to Amazon because of a defective pump. Amazon was very cooperative, paying for postage and refunding my money.

B
4.0 out of 5 stars My First Liquid CPU Cooler
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2017
Verified Purchase
I learned a long time ago that water & electricity don't mix. I've been hesitant to "take the plunge" (get it? tee-hee) with a liquid cooler. I did so because my 7700K was just getting TOO hot with the air cooler I had. It was rated to handle the TDP of the 7700K, & it did, kinda. "Kinda" until using the CPU for anything serious, and then BSOD. I was discussing these issues with the CPU manufacturer & the motherboard manufacturer. I decided to pull the cooler out of the equation as a possible source of problems, replacing the air-cooler with this one, rated to handle TDP of 250 watts, far more than the 91 watts (at full bore) the 7700K is rated for (at stock settings).

I don't know what kind of case this thing (these things) are designed for, but it sure wasn't designed for mine. My case is a 19" 4U standard rack-mount case. This radiator & fan(s) together create a ginormous cube. I guess people have "tower" cases (I have too many electronics for such a luxurious waste of space) and there's room in there. In my case, since motherboards no-longer support CD/DVD R/W or floppy drives, that drive bay was removed, almost perfectly fitting the cooling brick.

Idle temperatures are about the same as the air cooler. What is different are the temperatures under load. They still go up, but not as much, and they don't fluctuate as much. I'm getting about 12'C cooler at load than the high-end air cooler from THE most recognized brand in air-coolers. This water-based gizmo is better.

AND quieter. By A LOT. Both fans are spinning at their version of "100%" and I can't hear them at all. The pump doesn't make much (if any) discernible sound, and it's also running at 100%. The only reason I'd have to cut their speeds would be to extend those part's longevity, not to decrease noise.

The cooler comes with all the parts necessary, but juggling the brick & pump at the same time requires some dexterity. The constructions seems very good, and compared to air-coolers, is a bargain. This is the same price, but the components to put this together cost much more than a few slats of stamped aluminum, a couple of heat pipes, & a CPU clamping mechanism. This devices clamping mechanism is a little on the "basic" side. It would have been cool if they had designed some really clever mounting mechanism, but they didn't. Also, the base of the mounting mechanism is made of plastic, and both flexes and protrudes far enough to hit the case wall just underneath the motherboard.

All in all, so far, I'm happy with it. Not jump-over-the-moon happy, but better-than-a-high-end-more-expensive-than-this-cooler happy. If it springs a leak, or stops working (either would be disastrous, as this rig runs 24x7x52) not only would it be destroyed, but so would all the electronics in the lower rack spaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great AIO, Slightly Difficult Installation
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017
Verified Purchase
The only thing I can say about the installation process, is that like any other pc part instructions, it is very very vague. I had a little trouble following the tiny diagrams, and would have been stuck if this was my first AIO.

Other than that, the product is great. They sent me AM4 parts free of charge, and it arrived very quickly. I didn’t need it because I ended up getting a Crosshair VI Hero, but I was pleased with the customer service.

I’m running an OCd Ryzen 1700 (3.8 at 1.35V (offset), AIDA64 stable, 32GB of non QVL, non B-Die 3200mHz ram at 2933 at 1.35V). I’m getting 30C at idle and a very consistent 51C at full load (hours of stress, stuck at 51C for 99% of the time, occasional 52C).

One thing I should note, again, is that installation did give me trouble. The standoffs are have threads on both sides, and although common sense tells you which way they should PROBABLY go, it isn’t clear or obvious enough. The thumb screws didn’t go in and wouldn’t come off without force, but once I got them the right way, it was a very easy install.

Also, the four fans in the push/pull configuration are VERY hard to install by yourself. This is inherent, but I just though I should note it. I had to remove it again after I had it installed fully to plug in my CPU power (face palm) and I had to get help to put it back on.

Lastly, the last fan in the daisy chain that’s actually plugged into the board is NOT spinning. The temps aren’t affected much I assume, since they’re very good. It’s just the worst positioned one, as it’s the one right above the CPU (push). I’m not sure if it’s a bad fan, or if there’s some sort of error making the last one not spin (haven’t tested, too lazy), so I’m not gonna knock a star off. I am positive customer support would be easy, but I’ll just live with it til I make an upgrade or clean it.

Overall, a very product. I can’t blame them for the push/pull installation, but it wouldn’t hurt to think up something for future products. It would definitely put it leagues ahead of others.

If anything changes, I’ll be sure to update. Always worried about water in my rig. I had a mishap with a custom loop, so a good AIO is a great middle ground.
