As I get into below, this was a successful purchase. Buying refurbished equipment is something I like to do, and I have had good luck with it. From the items themselves, I honestly could not tell the difference between the keyboard and mouse and receiver being new or refurbished - everything looked new. Everyone's experience may vary, and if I just "lucked out," so be it - but if my experience is any indication, you'll get the equipment you want at a discount.
A little history. I have two separate pc setups next to each other, and use separate keyboards for them (obviously). On one, I have had a Logitech K350 for several years now, but not on the other. The K350 has worked well and I use it a great deal drafting fairly lengthy articles to publish online basically every day. There are very few days when I don't use it, and that extends back several years. I have had no issues with the keyboard, it is an extremely comfortable one to prop on my lap/knee and use. As a general matter, it does make a little noise when you type (it's definitely not silent like some keyboards), but the pressure sensitivity is just about perfect and I actually like the key-strike noise for some reason - I kind of expect it to make a noise and I can judge how fast I'm typing from the noise..All of the keys work flawlessly, and it still looks good with no issues or signs of wear and tear. The connection is good and I only have to recharge the batteries about every six months or so. The power drain is tiny. I like an ergonomic keyboard because I type a lot and feel they take a little strain off your wrists, which I've never had any problem with - but better safe than sorry. I type about 60-90 words a minute, and this keyboard is fast enough for rme.
So, having had a good experience with that wireless keyboard, I got this combo to put on the other machine (I've gone through several keyboards on that one during the life of the other keyboard, either the cords break or it just stops working or whatever). The only change that I notice for the keyboard is that the keys are a little more "clickety-clack" than the other keyboard, but, otherwise, they are identical. I presume the slightly increased noise on the new one is because is unused and just needs to be broken in like my older keyboard. Otherwise, it is exactly the same as the older keyboard, which is why I gave the above review of the old one - I have experience with this model even though I just got this new replacement. So, now I have the same keyboard on both computers and I am happy.
The mouse is a fairly typical Logitech M705 mouse. It feels comfortable in my hand, everything works, but it's a generic mouse. That's about it - either you like standard Logitech mice or you don't. I have an old MX-1000 wireless that I've been using for over ten years and that still works great (I had to replace the battery in 2013), so I'm keeping the new mouse as a backup - I suppose I'll need it eventually, nothing lasts forever. My personal experience is that Logitech equipment usually lasts a long time if you treat it properly.
The only major change I notice from my old setup is that the receiver has changed. For my old keyboard, there's a fairly big oval receiver that sits behind my monitor. It's about four feet away and I've never had a problem with lost signal or dropped keystrokes (unlike other wireless keyboards I've used). With this new setup, I was momentarily nonplussed when I didn't see a receiver in the box. However, a quick look at the directions showed that they have made the receivers so small now - basically just a nub on a USB plug - that they actually fit inside the mouse. So, I took the receiver out of the battery compartment of the mouse and plugged it into the USB port of my pc (also about four feet away). It synched up to the keyboard and mouse without my having to fiddle with anything at all - which is a nice change from old models where you had to hold down tiny buttons and hope you get a good signal. I have had no issues with "crossed signals" between the two setups despite the fact I'm using the same wireless equipment basically right next to each other.
In terns of the packaging, the mouse and keyboard came in a plain cardboard box with excellent bubble-wrap protection. Everything was in brand new condition, with those little sticky plastic things on the keyboard and mouse to protect them. They were both in plastic bags. Everything looks unused. The directions are a sheet of paper that looks like it was printed out on a simple home color printer that basically just tells you to get the receiver out of the mouse and plug it in, put batteries in the mouse and keyboard, and get to work. That was sufficient, it was one of the simplest setups I can imagine. Basically, it looked like the equipment was new, they just didn't have a standard retail box and instructions for them.
So, everything was in brand-new condition despite being "refurbished." The item got to me within a week from Texas, on the first projected delivery date, and I was able to track the package's journey. UPS/USPS and the packaging got the items to me without any damage whatsoever and in a timely fashion, which is all I really want out of the shipping process. I have tested everything and it works exactly as it should.
So, overall, I am extremely pleased. Any worries I may have had from other reviewers complaining about dirty keyboards or whatnot are gone. I highly recommend this Logitech Wireless Wave Combo Mk550 With keyboard and mouse, it's a great way to get a quality product at a discount. I would gladly purchase again from the same seller.
