I have slightly wavy, very fine but extremely thick (as in, individual strands are fine, but I have a very high density of individual hairs on my head, and, no, the hairs being fine doesn't seem to make it dry any faster), waist length hair that I blunt cut because only a sociopath would put layers in hair this thick. I've tried porcelain dryers, tourmaline dryers, blow dry accelerants, microfiber towels... it still keeps me around 40 minutes to blow dry it completely (I admit my skill set is lackluster, as I so seldom bother to blow dry it at all). The lady who cuts my hair has a flag on my account so that when I schedule an appointment, they add an extra 15 minutes to the standard 1 hour appointment so she can have enough time to dry it (she is faster than I am, maybe 20-30 minutes for her, I've never actually timed it). She always asks if I want her to take weight out of my hair (basically drag the scissor edge through it to thin it out to normal-person thickness; I do not do this). Once, when I was at a hair salon as a first time customer to get a trim, the stylist realized she'd never get my hair dry in time for her next appointment, so she recruited one of the other stylists to blow dry my hair with her-- one on each side of me, blow drying simultaneously. Hopefully I've illustrated my point sufficiently.
I deliberated about this thing for a while. I essentially don't ever blow dry my hair because it takes so long. The, "I went from 15 minutes to 5 minutes," people, the normal-range hair thickness ones, the ones who think that shoulder-length hair is long hair-- they don't understand what it's like for girls like me. I am not interested in what they have to say about a hair dryer. A girl I worked with owned this and said it dried faster, but she has shoulder length hair that is maybe 1/4 as thick as mine. I remained skeptical. I left most of the packing intact when I finally bought it, fully expecting to have to return it after verifying that it does not work for my hair.
With this dryer, my hair was completely dry in less than 15 minutes (approximately 13). It doesn't feel fried or damaged. It put off less heat (though still enough for me to sweat a bit) than my old dryer. It is quieter than normal dyers. I'm not proud of the fact that I now own a $400 hair dryer (with a $50 carrying case to protect it), but... I'm not giving this thing up.
Now to see if it stops working after 6 months...
