5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Speed
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2016
I tested the Wireless Adapter with a desktop system I have in my upstairs office. While my desktop computer is perfect as it is with all the specs I wanted, it's not standard for a desktop computer to have a wireless card built-in. This adapter has allowed me to connect that desktop to my router and network wirelessly, without the need to string Ethernet cable all over the house, which can be a real pain. This adapter would also work great with a notebook if I wanted to upgrade the connectivity to AC1750 speeds. The adapter is very thin and could be left in the computer all the time, barely sticks out.

The system I used this adapter with is running Windows 10t and install and set up were really easy and simple. The package includes the drivers necessary for the adapter, and they can also be found on the manufacturer website as a download, if necessary.

I have found the performance of this Wi-Fi adapter to be pretty good. My setup has a few walls and a floor between the computer and router, and this adapter overcomes those obstacles quite well.

Overall, I like this Wireless Adapter a lot and have found it to deliver great results. This is a very useful Wi-Fi adapter, if you have the need for it.

1.0 out of 5 starsNo Optical Drive? Not easy to set up. Also stops working after 8 months
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2018
Very difficult to set up if you don't have a optical drive. I had to go on their website find the correct drivers and figure out which file in the zipdrive they give you works with no instructions. Does work well when everything is updated. They really should just have a download wizard without all the silly zipdrives on their website.

Update: originally purchased January 24th 2018 basically stopped working August 25th 2018. Zero driver support and now the WiFi repeatedly loses connection even though my other devices stay connected. I’ve been fighting with this adapter for over an hour today and about to throw it out into the road because it’s garbage.

Just got a hp laptop, ethernet port does not work and the internal wifi card is only 2.4 GHz, receiving tremendous interference from neighbors on that band, so I purched this device... Installation was simple, disable all network adapters, just load the CD, install driver, reboot, plug it in and connect.. transfer speeds are great, of course they aren't as fast as a wired connection but they certainly are much better, definitely recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars Good performance but finicky, have to install drivers from website to get it to work at all

Edit: My new router arrived and is a vast improvement over my prior router. Out of curiosity I tried using this dongle again and it works exactly the way I wanted it to when I bought it in the first place; clearly it was my old router that was entirely the problem. Revising rating to 4. The setup is still a pain and needs better documentation about the drivers (something my new router handled well, so it's possible to do).

I bought this for an older laptop that could only interact with 2.4ghz wireless signals and my router only had 5ghz. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because it did eventually work, but even now it will periodically turn itself off - or at least drop the connection - so I have to run the built
in troubleshooter to reset it and restore the connection. Some days it's worse than others and it won't stay connected. Most of the time it will have one or two hiccups and then work fine.

It came with an installation CD which I ran successfully, but it wasn't able to connect. I had to go read a lot of other reviews and support before I found someone saying you need to get manufacturer driver updates from the website before it would work, and once I did that it did work most of the time. As noted above, however, it isn't a reliable connection.

I wouldn't even bother to review really but I am annoyed by the poor support and lousy capabilities of this device. I bought this hoping I could avoid buying a new router and that didn't work out for me. If you need a quick fix for a short period of time, this will do the job, but don't expect it to be a long term solution.

Excellent product that is superior to even my computer's built in adapter. The gain resulting from the antenna helped significantly with signal reception and made it possible for me to get consistent wifi in my room. It has occasional problems with connectivity but it's more so related to which wifi band I'm using and since my house only has 2.54 GHz wifi and I only have USB 2.0 ports, the adapter's top download speeds are around 80 Mbps in my house, which is still excellent.

However, when I use the ac wireless band at around 5 GHz at locations outside of my house, I can get speeds nearing 200 Mbps even with my computer's USB 2.0 ports. This is an excellent product, and it was definitely worth more than what I paid for it. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is considering buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can't connect to 5GHz channel 49 or higher...

I bought this to use on my MSI GE62VR gaming laptop, the internal Intel WiFi was only capable of 867Mb link. Perfectly fine for gaming but not so much for the huge 20+GB files I move around my home network. So I bought this adapter and am now able to connect at 1.3Gb (aka 1300Mb). Why three stars though? Because it can only connect to 5GHz networks at or below channel 48. Any channel above that it can't see the network in Windows 10 or Ubuntu 18.04 and manually forcing it to try to connect it just gives a failed to connect error message. Everything else in my house (two Google Home Mini, a Google Home, a Pixel XL phone, a Pixel 2 XL phone, a nVidia Shield TV, three laptops with Intel WiFi) can all connect to my home network but this adapter can't unless it is channel 48 or less.
So I've had to adjust my router down to channel 48 but all the channels 48 and under have a ton of other WiFi networks on them (I'm in an apartment complex with ~10 neighbors in typical wifi range) which slows down my home wifi, thus taking away from the benefit of having this faster wifi adapter.
Hopefully a firmware update is released that fixes this issue, because it works great otherwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Raspberry Pi and Linux users, works well with proper provisions

Works very well on Raspberry Pi and Linux machines. It doesn’t work right out of the box but by following instructions available online for installing this adapter on RPI and Linux machines and making sure to turn off power management, the function and performance is great. If power management is not turned off, you may experience frequent packet drops and disconnects.

5.0 out of 5 stars All good in Linux

Recently updated to 100Mb service and needed a new USB adapter that could handle AC.This was to be used on a machine with Linux Mint. A quick google search indicated this one would play well with a Linux OS so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. A quick check of my kernel version and I was off to the Edimax downloads page and got the driver for kernel 3.16 and above. The install itself was routine with one exception. The makefile has this line: EXTRA_CFLAGS += -Wno-error=date-time # Fix compile error on gcc 4.9 and later. This caused the compilation to fail as my version of gcc was not above 4.9 and apt-get was telling me I had the latest version in the repo. Once I commented out that line and reran apt-get make the makefile compiled and installed just fine.

Per Speedtest I'm now at 102Mb down and 52 Mb up with 100% signal. Life is good.

2.0 out of 5 stars but I ran multiple tests (by disabling and enabling connections in windows) and they seemed pretty consistent. After being advertised as 450Mbps/1300Mbps
Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2018

I bought the Edimax EW-7833UAC AC1750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi USB adapter. I have two problems with this product: the speed and the Linux support.

Since speed is more relevant to most folks, I'll talk about that first. This card is very rough. After installing drivers on Windows and setting it up, I noticed my downloads had slowed to a crawl, and websites were taking a long time to load. Since I happened to have an ethernet cord that could stretch across my living room to my router, and a Netgear card that I bought at a BestBuy a while back, I figured I'd put them all to the test. Here are my results from Speedtest.net:

Wired Ethernet: 50.89 Mbps down, 5.11 Mbps up
Netgear card 2.4GHz: 30.03 Mbps down, 5.11 Mbps up
Netgear card 5.0GHz: 50.76 Mbps down, 5.04 Mbps up
Edimax AC1750 2.4GHz: 1.33 Mbps down, 0.67 Mbps up
Edimax AC1750 5.0GHz: 1.70 Mbps down, 5.06 Mbps up

So, in summery, this adapter is roughly 20-25 times slower than my other wifi adapter with download speeds. And this was with the AC1750 plugged into a USB 3.0 port and the Netgear using USB 2.0. Not sure why the upload speeds worked correctly with the 5.0GHz connection, but I ran multiple tests (by disabling and enabling connections in windows) and they seemed pretty consistent. After being advertised as 450Mbps/1300Mbps, the actual result was very underwhelming. If I didn't have the other Wi-Fi adapter, I would have assumed it was my router. But it was definitely this card.

Now, onto linux support.
I got this adapter because my Netgear card didn't support Linux, and I recently installed Ubuntu 16.04. Seeing "Linux" in the title of the page made me think that this was a good deal and would work for me. It did...eventually. The official drivers only go up kernel version 4.4, which is far below what my fresh install of Ubuntu was using. I was eventually able to find a git repo that was updated recently with good drivers, but it took a lot of digging, a 20ft ethernet cord across my living room, and quite a bit of hair-pulling. Eventually, it was able to work. So that's why I give two stars instead of one, because it did do what I needed to do, albeit poorly and only after a lot of work on my part.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good adapter, but has issues with dropped connections on USB 3.0 ports

Great USB network adapter! Been using it a week now and I can't believe how well it works compared to others I've tried. I have 120 Mbps cable internet. The wireless routher (Linksys WRT1900ACS) is about 35-40 feet away through two walls. The Edimax EW-733UAC gets 115 Mbps on the 5Ghz connection! I can't believe its that strong from that distance. I play World of Warcraft with this PC and is just like a wired connection - very low latency (25ms) and no lag spikes. It gets the same performance with the antenna unfolded or retracted (so I keep it folded up). I couldn't be happier, especially considering the reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Edit: After a few weeks it began dropping the USB 3.0 port connection and it would take a reboot for it to find available networks again. Tried the most recent drivers for both the OS and the adapter, reinstalled the firmware on the router - nothing helped. That said, it works fine on USB 2.0 ports. Its a little slower, but still fast. Still, I wish it would work in a USB 3.0 port. Knocking a star off for this.
