5.0 out of 5 starsSeagate is the best HDD makers out there! :D

Been running this SSHD for 2 Months now and its a good partner with my SSD. Haven't had any issues and it's pretty fast for a SSHD, I used it for a few weeks as my boot then switched boot to my SSD. The speeds aren't terribly different honestly at least with Windows 10. I'd say its 2-4X faster than your standard HDD and about 2-4X slower than your standard SSD. Sits right in the middle. Now for gaming, it loads slower but was surprising good for random reads (Arma, Witcher 3) both tested on this and my SSD. So again, this drive sits in the middle. I would recommend SSD for OS and a few your favorite games. Then use this for the rest of your games and storage needs. It's great. If your on a real budget or lack space, get this over the SSD and get as much TB's as you can afford. The more TB you have the better the drive performs, goes for all drives, SSD's too. So if you can only get one, a 4TB will cost close to what a 500gb SSD cost, so your better with the 4TB and your speeds will be pretty good! Anyways, all I know its a great quality drive, silent, hasn't had a single error and will most likely do me well for a long time. I have a Barracuda from 2011 in another computer and it's still running strong, Seagate is boss for HDDs.

3.0 out of 5 starsDo not use this SSHD for your Boot Drive! Unless your going to have lunch while it boots! (o;
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2017
I bought these SSHD Hybrid drives a while back, well, the first one a little over 2 years ago, It started to fail! I contacted Seagate and they sent a new drive out over night and I sent the old one back! no problems The drive was still under the 3 year guarantee by about 6 or 8 months! I restored my system and all was good! Or so I thought! I think I have come across a real problem with these SSHD drives! DO NOT use them for your system drive C: or Boot drive! with Windows 10! I do not know at this time if there is a driver problem or if its just the hardware or the way the drive works? I have a sister PC to this one and it is ecstatically the same. all the same applications software, and Hardware! This PC started to take a very long time to boot from power ON! when I say long time? I start timing the PC when the CMOS beeps and the HD starts loading! When the hard drive stops working (the LED stops flashing) I login! It takes a little bit and the main window is up and again the HD LED stops and At That point the PC is ready to do what ever I want! I have 2 different timers that also tell my how long boot-up took! Well, this PC started taking VERY long to boot! the HD LED would never stop unless I waited for over 20 Minutes!!! and the Boot timers where reading out 3.5 Minutes to 5 and sometimes 6 minutes! So, in Mid July 2017 I did a mirror image of my SSHD C: Drive to a Hi Speed FireCuda HD new drive! and swapped them out! Also the sister PC with just the HD drive Boots in less then 40 Seconds! Well after going back to the regular HD in this PC it now also boots all the way up as stated above in 45 to 50 seconds and each day it gets faster! I am going to talk to Seagate about this? maybe I need a driver or something set up different? The drives are optimized and everything shows to be working great! I beleave the problem is the SSHD drive writes everything to its RAM then it has to cash out it RAM to the physical disk! So its doing a lot more work on Boot up! its loading all the Windows apps and my apps and drivers etc. and then has to update its RAM changes and files to the physical disk!!?? I have a lot of apps and as I said this is taking up to and over 20 Minutes to get done! Now I have a second SSHD drive as my D: Drive, and it has NO problems at all! it loads and plays games noticeably faster the a regular HD! So to use this SSHD drive as a second drive for games and applications it works fantastic! very fast! SO! until I find a way to fix this or if Seagate can help me? I would NOT recommend these drives for the BOOT Drive! I will update this revue as soon as I find out whats going on? Hope this helps someone out that is having slow Boot times! As of now I am going to go to a 1TB SSD for my C drive as the prices for the SSD's are coming way down for 1 TB! If anyone has had this problem and found out why please let me know? Thanks, Rick D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Firecuda Gaming SSHD Adds zip to an older desktop.

I've used this solid state hybrid drive for about three months. It was easy to install, using existing SATA power and data cables. I loaded it with Linux Mint 18.3; it's reliable and very fast as my boot drive. It boots around 3 to 4 times faster than my old conventional SATA drive, a 500GB WD. It is installed on an older machine, a Dell Precision T5400 tower, dual-core Intel Xeon running at 3.333 GHz (max 3.8 GHz) with a 2008 Bios (yup, almost 10 years old) and 12GB of 667MHz memory. It's nice to have the speed this drive brings to my dinosaur -- now a velociraptor. The 1TB size is likely more than I'll need (With 2 users, documents, pictures, a typical set of productivity programs, it's less than 13% full; and I have other large drives). So far, I think the price is well worth the value in speed and Seagate reliability. Satisfied customer.

This has been a good drive for me. It's quieter than a standard platter drive. I'd recommend it for any use. It definitely speeds up your machine. Not as fast as an SSD, but somewhere in between. Since I bought my drive (a 1TB), I noticed these drives now seem to be available only in a 2TB size. I expect they'll most likely perform the same. Can't say if reliability overall is better than a SSD. Time will tell.

4.0 out of 5 stars First drive DOA, Replacement works as advertised. Good upgrade if you don't want to pay for an SSD
Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2016

UPDATED from 1 star:
TL/DR:
Pros:
Significant speed increase from old HDD
Good price point
Reduced Game stuttering
Slightly faster boot times
No issues cloning old drive to this drive

Cons:
First drive DOA
Doesn't compare to a real SSD for speeds

First drive was DOA so I rated it 1 star until I got my replacement. The Drive works fine. The replacement was recognized instantly. I used Macrium Reflect to clone my old HDD. Let the thing spin and build cache overnight. My old HDD had gotten really slow (it was a 6 year old WD Black, served me well but needed to go). This was a night and day difference from that old drive. Not a bad upgrade for the price while I wait for M.2 SSDs to come down in price. You aren't going to get the same performance out of this drive than you will a real SSD and that's just a fact of the difference in technology. As far as I understand SSHDs have a typical spinning drive along with a small flash memory section. This flash memory section allows faster read/write speeds by acting as intermediary storage (more used information will be stored on flash making it quick to access). But of course it has its limits as the bulk of the information is stored on the spinning drive like a normal HDD. What I am trying to say is that this will definitely have an improvement over normal HDDs but will not compare to an SSD (as the price reflects). I did experience a faster boot time with this drive, though not near what an SSD would give. My old HDD took a pretty long time to get going when I booted up. The FireCuda still takes time, but definitely less. The biggest improvement was definitely while playing games (which does match how the drive is advertised). I like to keep various computer stats on my second screen while gaming to be able to check how everything is performing. Larger games would definitely bog down my old drive. The response time would spike into the 100s of milliseconds at some points. Forza Horizon 3 is my best example (which is a really big game). Stuttering was unbearable at some points (and it was not my graphics card or my processor). After getting this drive that all went away. This drive's response time would only spike to about 20 or 30ms and only under highest load. The r/w speeds were also much higher. All in all a good buy once I got over my saltiness of the DOA drive. Still need to dock a star for that as it is definitely part of the experience/value of the drive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great deal

I'm very happy with this drive. The project for which I bought it was a fresh install of Windows 10 in a foreign language that I wanted to immerse myself in to improve my vocabulary. I first wanted to install on a used formatted drive I had on hand, and The OS simply would not make new partitions on it even though the drive was fine used to store data. Anyway, I then got this drive because I wanted fast bootup like an SSD with less costly capacity that mechanical drives offer. This drive is quiet and indeed fast. My project is a success. The only odd thing that happened was that the spare drive remained connected during this install, and Windows made it the D drive. I just let it be so. All is working very nicely, and I recommend these drives because they are inexpensive for what you get. I had had no prior experience with hybrid drives and this was also a flight of curiosity. Curiosity happily satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drive for the money and about 5 times faster than a 3.5 inch 7200 RPM drive.
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2016

I installed a seagate hybrid drive like this in my 2008 MacBook Pro a few years ago and it now runs on the latest MAC OS with no problems. I just purchased this 1 Terabyte Seagate FireCuda for a new HP Pavilion Desktop 510-p114 (Intel Core I-7, with 12 GB ram, paid $500 for it from Best Buy at a pre-black Friday online sale last week) and it is about 5 times as fast as the standard 7200 rpm hard drive that came with the machine. This drive has a 64GB cache buffer that essentially is an ssd bolted on to a high speed mechanical drive with faster communication speeds. So, I am very happy with it's performance, especially since it was only $60, In a few years a 1 TB full SSD will only be $60 and I'll probably upgrade my computer at that point if I notice performance issues. As of now, this HP that I put it in boots in about 8 seconds. That's plenty fast for the work I do.

My original hard drive crashed so I needed a replacement. This FireCudaceas a big upgrade in size and performance. Item arrived within 24 hours on Prime purchase. Installation was a breeze. Simply remove your PC cover, unplug the SATA cable and power cable. Remove 4 screws and slide the old unit out. Slide this new drive into the slot and secure with the 4 screws and attach the power cable and SATA cables and your done. Boot the PC with a windows boot disc or Zip drive and your on your way. Drive is noticeably faster, and quieter. 1 TB of storage is more than enough for home use, and after restoring my documents, photos, and software I have tons of space left to spare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic performance for the price

I had to get new drives because my original HDD was beginning to fail. An entire 500gb partition became corrupted, programs and games would take forever to launch, and my computer would experience horrible constant micro-stuttering.

I paired this with a WD Blue 250gb SSD (which I use to boot my OS and frequently used applications). All of the pictures, videos, programs, games, and applications I stored on this SSHD opened much faster than they did on my original deteriorating 7200rpm HDD. It got even better though. After I turned on my computer for the third time, I noticed that the games I had been frequently playing opened almost instantly!

If you're only going to have one drive on your desktop, or you're simply on a budget, definitely choose this SSHD over a regular HDD. You wont be disappointed with the performance. Just keep in mind that you might have to use your computer a few times before the SSHD recognizes which programs to boot up faster than the others. Feel free to pair it with a SSD if you want even better performance.

***Update: The SSHD failed after less than 1 year into its 5 year warranty. Seagate replaced the drive with a factory refurbished one for free, all I had to do was pay for shipping the defective drive to them. I recommend saving the box/shipping stuff your drive comes with in case you need to return it.***

3.0 out of 5 stars I hope that the five-year warranty is a sign that the FireCuda will last longer than the Barracuda I had to replace
Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2016
Product Packaging: Standard PackagingVerified Purchase
I own a Dell XPS 8700 that is not even three-year old and that shipped with a Seagate 1TB Barracuda drive (out of warranty as I only picked one year-warranty on the Dell). Suddenly I started experiencing blue screens and looking at the event viewer I noticed entries stating that the disk had bad sectors. I downloaded Seagate "SeaTools for Windows" and ran the Drive Self Test (DST) which failed.
I decided to buy a new drive to clone the old one before it was too late (as reinstalling Windows and all apps from scratch is painful).
This is when I noticed that Seagate Barracuda disks now only come with a two-year warranty, so I decided to get a more expensive FireCuda SSHD with a five-year warranty even though I was happy with the performance of the old Barracuda.
I was surprised that the drive came in a brown box with no literature explaining how to set it up but I found Seagate "DiscWizard" online (a custom version of Acronis) that enabled me to clone the old drive at no extra cost.
I then booted on the new drive and ran a chkdsk /f /r followed by a sfc /scannow, a dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and yet another sfc /scannow to make sure Windows was clean (as I was afraid some corrupted files might have been copied over during the cloning).
Everything looks fine so far. The SeaTools DST passes on the new drive and I don't see any obvious sign of data corruption.
I am not convinced that the new drive is faster than the old one but as stated above my main concern is long-term reliability.
