5.0 out of 5 starsGREAT 300Mbps capable modem.
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2018
Update 8-19-2019 : The modem is still going strong AND Spectrum automatically upgraded our 300 Mbps service to 400 Mbps and even though this modem is not on their approved list, I am now bursting at around 450 Mbps!

So far, this modem has performed excellently. We have 100/10 internet and while I was always happy with the performance of their supplied Cable Modem, I could not stand the god awful wireless router that was bundled with it. I have a separate WAP but the router itself would go to pieces when doing any PtP downloading of over about 27 connections or so. It was so bad that you couldn't even access the web ui.

I picked up this modem based on the spectrum approved modem list and after a surprisingly short call, the spectrum tech had it activated. He was actually surprised at how fast it took their script and activated.

I speed tested it and was getting the same burst rate of about 120 down and 12 up. Now I can connect my $25 ebay refurbished dual core computer running pfSense as a wired router.

A little later I contacted Spectrum through chat support to inquire about removing their $5 "Spectrum WIFI" fee and off the cuf asked about upgrading to 300/20 service. I am not bundled and only purchase internet service through Spectrum. He told me that since I provided my own 300Mbps capable modem they had recently done away with the $200 "Upgrade fee" and the 300/20 would only be $20 more a month!

I asked him to activate the speed upgrade and instantly saw the cable modem power cycle. After it reset, I speed tested at 350/22 !

This modem is awesome.

1.0 out of 5 starsA once decent modem has become a nightmare.
Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2019
I bought this modem over a year and a half ago, everything seemed pretty good. And then I started noticing some problems and I had constant dropouts, sometimes 5 and 6 times a day. And then it seemingly fixed itself. My speeds were okay and I didn't have any major connectivity issues.

Fast forward to this past month, and let me tell you it's been nothing short of a nightmare. The dropouts are insanely frequent. I struggle to stay connected for 20 minutes most days. I for the life of me cannot understand why.

That's when I found that ASUS shipped a bunk product, with a bad chipset that they don't bother to support anymore. The drivers are so far behind at this point it doesn't even make sense to keep the bloody thing. And to top it all off, customer service basically gave me the equivalent of a shrug and a "got your money not our problem."

I have a lot of ASUS products but my experience this time around made me reconsider buying anything from them again. Oh well. You live and you learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been reliable, running strong for 5 years

I bought this modem to replace an older SB 6121 as that modem was not on Charter's approved list, at least at the time. I did use the SB 6121 with Charter and worked ok but I didn't any issues calling Charter support and have them harp on the modem being unsupported. I hooked up the CM16 and had to give Charter a call when I swapped it to let them know, and get it up and running. The rep from Charter on the phone even said wow, that's a really good modem which kind of surprised me.

Anyway, I've been running without issue for 5 years so far at 100 down/15 up speed and now 200 down/8 up and it has been solid.

I don't regret purchasing it and if Asus made a modem (not a router) that was gig capable I would likely buy that when I upgrade my connection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless set-up and operation

I recently switched from AT&T Uverse to Spectrum as my ISP. AT&T forces you to rent their modem, but with Spectrum you can provide your own, and with the amount I'm saving over AT&T, it pays for itself in 3 months. I already have an ASUS router and repeater, so I thought an ASUS modem would be a good choice. I was not disappointed.
It took the Spectrum tech only minutes to set everything up, and we immediately had internet access through wi-fi on every phone, tablet and computer in the house. It took a while to configure Windows 10 to access the internet when using a wired connection between my laptop and my router. That's because switching to Spectrum gave me different IP addresses and DHCP servers, and making the correct changes in Windows is not intuitive at all. It's not the fault of the modem, so I still gave it 5 stars.

I recently switched providers and I bought this modem to avoid the Comcast monthly rental fee. I'm going from 13mbps dsl to 150mbps cable service so I was pretty excited. However, the installer said he could not register the modem because it was too new or defective. He said I should return it and that he would install a Comcast modem to get me up and running. Of course I agreed so that I could have my service turned on. Unfortunately I started having problems right away. The speed with the Comcast modem was great but it kept dropping wifi and I was being disconnected even on LAN, feeling frustrated, I decided to see if I could try and install the ASUS CM-16 DOCSIS modem myself. I followed the simple instructions listed and I was able to do it on my FIRST try! Without ever placing the dreaded call to Comcast! I have it paired with ASUS RT-ACRH13 Dual-Band 2x2 AC1300 Wifi 4-port wifi router and haven't been dropped once yet and I'm getting great speed test results. I'm very pleased so far with this ASUS modem router combo so far.
On the Comcast website the ASUS CM-16 DOCSIS Modem is on the list of approved devices.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid and serviceable, no noticeable bump when paired w/ASUS WiFi router, however.

I had a Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Modem which started to die out about a month ago, so I looked around and most of the modems had fairly mixed reviews. Some ran hot, others would go out just after the warranty period, but in general they all ran about 75% 5-Stars, so I figured they were relative.

Since I had such great luck with replacing my WiFi Router with an ASUS router, I decided to pair up with this and so far it has worked. I called Spectrum and had it going within 30 minutes (20 of which were on hold). It works great, and offers a far more stable signal; however, I was hoping for closer to the 100 Mbps that I pay for as my $200 WiFi router is capable of up to 1 Gbps, and this modem is capable of 686 Mbps. A stable ~ 67 Mbps is fine for my needs, but I was a tiny bit disappointed, hence the 4 stars. I'm not sure if other modems would offer better speeds, and I'm sure it offers closer to 100 when directly plugged in.

All that being said, it runs cooler than my Motorola did and so far has been humming away at a solid and consistant pace. If anything changes I'll update my review, but for now I'm pretty darn happy.

Almost a year ago, I purchased this Cable Modem in lieu of renting a modem from my service provider. The cost was about 6 months of renting one, so because I had a one-year contract, I thought I could save a bit and boy was I right. This modem works great, is less obtrusive than the modem from my service provider and preforms as good as or better. I am planning on staying on with my service provider so will continue saving money each and every month!

My old modem was limiting my speeds to just over 100 mbps so I got this one for the increased channels/downstream bandwidth. My current downstream is pretty much at the maximum for what my ISP allows (currently around 240mbps).

Installation:
I had no issues with installation but I also was installing this alongside a new router so I had to do additional configuration regardless. I disconnected my old modem, installed this one with the existing coax cable, and connected to the new router.

Use:
I've been using it for about 4 months, and I have not touched it since the initial installation.

Slightly Less Important Things
Appearance:
I think it looks pretty good. It has a simple rectangular design, and if I had to have it out in the open I probably wouldn't mind displaying it. The attached stand does its job well. If I had to list a con, it would be that the stand is not removable, so you won't be able to easily lay it on its side or mount it to a wall or rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Modem, New Router, New outlook on the Internet
Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2017

We were using an older Linksys modem and were being disconnected from TWC every couple of days. I bought this unit and found it significantly increased my coverage (range) in the house, but was still being disconnected regularly. A TWC tech rep. suggested a visit from a technician to determine the problem. Note that he had "pinged " my modem and found a "lot" of noise. The tech guy showed up and did some tests and determined that there was an occasional unacceptable amount of noise causing my modem to shut down. He did some tests and determined that the cable from the box outside to the outside of the house was causing this situation. The tech disconnected the old cable from the utility pole to the house and ran a new one. This immediately eliminated the "noise" and we were able to reestablish the modem connection to the internet. In the 60 or so days since we have not experienced a single problem, the modem is connected to an Asus RT-N66U Router and covers the entire house. We can watch Netflix on one end of the house with this modem on the other (About 45 feet). All my network stuff is Asus because it just works well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as expected. Easy set-up.

This works with my time warner cable 200mbps internet plan just fine. Set-up was very straight-foward and easy. If you follow the do-it-yourself directions provided by TWC for activating your own modem, it might give you an error message upon attempting to activate it. Don't worry though. Just give them a call and they can most likely activate it for you very easily and quickly even if you encounter this problem. I'm glad to not have to pay the rental fee anymore

Be aware that this is only the modem. If you want wireless internet, you will also need a router. There is only a single ethernet port on this modem allowing for one device to be connected to the internet with a wired connection.
