5.0 out of 5 starsTwelve South Fails to Disappoint
Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017
Upon ordering Twelve South's arm band for the Apple Watch, I was a bit cautious as they really are the only company selling this type of product right now. I had nothing to compare to, and purchased on a whim. Quality, comfort, and ease-of-use are the three words I would choose to best describe this wonderful product.

I work two physically demanding jobs all day, from 8am to 9pm, both of which have constant contact with my hands and wrists. I searched for an armband to use with my Apple Watch to reduce scratching, cracking, or any damage which would occur during my day to day use; while still being able to wear the device to accurately keep track of my activity data.

Directly after delivery, I used Twelve South's ActionSleeve immediately the following several work days. Throughout the 13 hours each day, I found this band extremely comfortable to wear. The ActionSleeve didn't hinder my arm movement or cause any irritation by its material. As far as quality goes, I couldn't be more impressed with this product. From the Velcro and the buckle, to the little slot you insert your watch into, every inch of this product was well thought out and designed with the end user in mind. Putting on an taking off the ActionSleeve is extremely easy. Because of this, quick adjustments aren't bothersome or tedious.

Aside from my 13 hour work days, running with this product is even better. Due to the quality, the arm band stood in place while my feet were pounding into the pavement. No slippage or pushing the band back up your arm. Most importantly, your Apple Watch stays secure inside of the built-in "case", while the heart rate sensor goes to town pumping out those BPM readings for you without being obstructed by the arm band.

Twelve South really nailed it with this product. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up being extremely impressed with the overall quality, comfort, and ease-of-use the ActionSleeve offers.

I had such high hopes!! It looks amazing and like many I needed something that would allow me to have uninterrupted heart rate monitoring during boxing. I moved the band on the top of my arm, tightened down the strap and gave my arm a vigorous shake to make sure it was secured. Within the first 5 minutes of hitting the bag, it began to slip. I readjusted, maybe I had it in a bad spot so I moved it down more towards the bottom of my bicep. Overall I had to adjust three times in 45 minute workout. The strap is very soft and I like the Velcro, other reviews complained about the metal buckle I had no issues with that at all. But do think if would be better if there was a soft rubber on the inside to prevent slipping, similar to no-slip hair ties. Boxing is a sweaty workout, as the band is now I doubt it will stay put. Will try one more time and update this if needed. Would hate to waste $30.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fits Apple Watch Series 4 (Sort Of)
Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2019
Verified Purchase
I bought the 40mm series 4 the moment it came out and patiently waited for ActionSleeve to be updated since the company gave a firm response that the 40mm will not fit. Months past, then half a year and now more but still no update which leads me to believe they are waiting until Series 5 comes out before releasing a version for Series 4 or waiting until they have exhausted their Series 3 version inventory.

I use a MyZone heart band, it tracks perfectly vs the watch which significantly under tracks on ones wrist. Using a heart band is easy but just always seems so silly having to use another device rather than just my Apple Watch that is already always on me, and since when using Apple Watch you get recovery info on siri watch face and less issues with prioritizing MyZone over Watch in the Apple Health sources settings.

I looked on the reviews and saw someone say this does fit the new model, so I ordered the 38mm version and viola it does fit! At first I couldn't get it in at all, but with a little push passed the rubber lip it goes in and seems to fit just fine once it's in there. That being said, if it was that hard everytime to get in would certainly not be worth it, perhaps it would be easier once you get use to it. But I assume that the 38mm watch goes in far easier which is what they means by its not compatible.

So in the end yes, it fits but whether the extra hassle of tacking your watch strap off strugglnig to get it in, put this on your arm, and then doing on all the steps in reverse every day vs using a Polar or MyZone, I'm leaning towards the side of sticking with MyZone. Once a new version comes out that fits perfectly it maybe a closer call.

I also ordered a traditional arm strap on Amazon that looks more like the Apple Velcro band. That seemed like it would be easier, and while easy to snap onto the watch, since unlike this where its one strap to tighten and lossen, the other requires too, which makes it a bit difficult in it's own right. So still no perfect solution, hopefully Apple releases an official version someday.

In the meantime, this will fit a 40mm, but up to you if its worth the hassle. Didn't try the larger size, as while it would go in easier I fear 2mm to big would make it not a tight seal vs being 2mm too small.

5.0 out of 5 stars Approved for ankle use
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2017
Verified Purchase
I work where I can’t wear anything below the elbow, and the thought of wearing a band around my upper arm for 12 hours didn’t appeal to me. My ankle is too small for this band, and I am not a small person. However, I am able to anchor it with my sock (calf-length) so that it doesn’t slip around. I forget it’s there. I give it five stars because it provides a reliable spot to put my watch that isn’t my wrist, and my pulse can easily be read on my ankle, as well, so that I know my Activity rings are being contributed to. I position the watch so that its back rests on top of my inside ankle.

I wish I could give ten stars for the side-eyes, jaw drops, and inevitable rumors that are currently brewing. My pants cover this setup effectively, but if I decide to raise my pant leg to check my calorie count or my steps or something, to the untrained eye this thing will make you look like you are a parolee with one of those GPS ankle monitors. I guess I look like I’m up to something as well because we’re technically not allowed to access our personal electronics in the work area. I’ve had this band for about a month and only one coworker has voiced his concerns. He had a good laugh and swore an oath of secrecy (of his own creation, I tried to tell him it wasn’t a big deal) and that he would claim ignorance if anyone approached him about my “parole status”.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bad Reviews Are Misleading!!

I have absolutely NO idea what people are doing during their workouts to make these bands look raggedy and worn. I bought mine about a month and a half ago and I work out 6 to 7 times a week and 4 of those are kickboxing classes. Not once have I had to stop during class to readjust, it doesn’t slip, it doesn’t bother my skin, and it tracks my heart rate without a single interruption. And for those who haven’t taken a kick boxing class, we jump, run, hit, kick, everything that requires arm work. Even during endless burpees and pushups does the band stay right in place.
Absolutely amazed with this product. The Velcro hasn’t even shown any bit of wear and tear nor has the window had any damage from taking the Apple Watch in and out of it.
If you take care of your products they will take care of you guys.
But even with that said, I barely wash/maintain mine and it’s still in mint condition, like literally I could resell it if I wanted it’s in that good of condition.

This company stands by their word and their customer service, even answers questions on their Instagram page!

Thank you, Twelve South for a product that multiple of my classmates will be purchasing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useful product, good intentions but it’s just poorly manufactured

I’m an avid gym rat that trains for spartan races. This product has good intentions cause it allows your Apple Watch to be placed on your bicep closer to your heart, but due to the inferior materials used to build this product it’s durability drops it down to a 1 star rating. I’ve notIced it when I first got it, was thinking how’s this gonna last sure enough after the first week of use I did notice issues like the one you see in the image. I have 18”-19” biceps so the band is good cause It stretches enough to make a snug fit on my upper arms, but if it was made using denser neoprene material (like the leg SPEED BANDS I purchased from Amazon) then it would last, it’s not the diameter of my biceps that messed up the product it’s the fact that it’s so thin it cannot handle the constant pressure of my arm expanding and contractibg during my CrossFit type training.

Please improve the product, if you need to make a slight increase on the price do it, cause it does serve a purpose for avid gym rats like me, that targets above my 80% MAX Heart rate when I’m in the gym. To safely increase my level of conditioning my I rather not rely on heart rate readings taken from my wrist, readings taken closer to the heart is the best place to measure your heart rate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Problem? SOLVED!

This is a fantastic Armband!
Firstly, me: I lift weights - LOT of weights - at the gym and crossfit, and I also do cardio - runs, crossfit and hikes.
(I also do Muay Thai, but I haven't had a chance to try these out during Muay Thai yet)

I do not enjoy wearing my Apple watch on the wrist, because it gets in the way of my wrist movement + is way more prone to scratches there, and it also doesn't really allow me to wear wrist wraps or straps.
This product however has solved my problem! Now I can track my workouts, without the watch getting in the way of anything.
The one downside (if you call it that) is that the band and the watch get really sweaty afterwards. Your upper arm gets way more sweat than your lower. I don't hold this against Twelve South though - it's not a problem they can possibly solve - the watch needs to be in contact with your skin for HR monitoring.

A suggestion to fellow lifters - Although the ActionSleeve has a bit of stretch, if you lift a lot of weights, wear it just above or below your bicep - where you will receive maximum reliability and comfort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Quality and for Small to Medium arms only.
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2019

This armband was barely large enough for my arms. Certainly it was too small to put on my bicep as the pictures indicate you should -- and I have 14.5 inch biceps -- not exactly Arnold Schwarzenger here. So I had to wear it in between my forearm and bicep. It stayed there pretty well so it wasn't the end of the world. Unfortunately there is a horizontal metal ring that, when the arm band gets stretched (like when working out), will turn vertical and will loosen the arm band. It also digs in to your arm -- so half way through a workout it become super uncomfortable and I had to adjust it constantly.

Lastly, and worstly, this lasted exactly 3 1-hour kick boxing workouts. At the end of my 3rd workout, the glue that binds the band to the watch holder started coming undone. I'm pretty sure it will come completely off by the end of my next workout.

Don't buy this if you're actually sweating and working out with it, or if you have medium sized arms or larger .

Luke Lucas
4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect companion for Apple Watch+Weight Training
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2018

An absolute game changer for strength training. I'm a runner, so until I started doing strength training work, wrist-only monitoring was totally fine and it never occurred to me that the same monitoring placement would be problematic for working with weights... until I noticed a trend in my charts that showed gigantic gaps in measurements. Additionally, I use an app called Strong to track my strength training and in between sets you see your heart rate— knowing that your heart rate is somewhere between 120-130 but the watch is registering "59" means that the watch isn't actually registering a heart rate because of its placement.

I finally bit and bought two of these: one for me, one for my wife (who does way more HITT work than anything else). The difference in heart-rate measurements was ASTONISHING. And getting a more accurate picture of the work I was doing has made a huge difference in the work I put in mentally.

To all the good, I deduct one star for a couple of reasons. I'm not a tiny guy, but I'm also not swole. I bought the standard sized band thinking it would fit just fine (yes, yes, I should have measured but it was a flash sale and I was at work). The standard size is HUGE. Thankfully, the slim was available so I was able to return and exchange with no problem. Be sure and measure your arm before purchasing. I think it's silly 12South markets the gigantic one as the normal; marketing should be flipped to be Standard and Large, not Standard and Slim. There's also a pain point in trying to transition between normal watch wear and the arm band. I run before I start in on weights, and I keep my Watch on my wrist for running, and move to the arm band once I'm done. I don't have a solution on how this could be fixed, but trying to quickly & efficiently swap on-the-fly from wrist wearing to the arm band is almost impossible. You'll get better at it, but you'll also maybe look a little dumb at the gym as you try and squeeze the watch into the compartment.

All that said: THIS IS A MUST if you do weight training or HITT work. Don't think— measure your arm, throw in the right size into your cart, and ship it on one-day delivery.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good

I've used this 4x so far and it seems well made and comfortable and keeps the Apple Watch safe. I'm in kickboxing. I ordered the 42 Slim version for my arms and it's best to wrap it lower arm above the elbow or more snugly upper arm so it doesn't slip. I think it's great. I DO NOT launder it, since it's soaked in sweat I rinse it and let it air dry. The neoprene material is very comfortable but makes it a sponge like. The watch insert is flexible rubber which holds the watch safely and snugly.

Workouts also are easily accessible and heart rate is recorded. So far, so good!

Arrived quickly in quality packaging, so I will update review it it falls apart anytime soon and will contact customer service and hope they work with me if it does. I hope it lasts or customer service would replace it, because it's the best option out there until there's competition. The soft Velcro is stitched at the top and bottom, so I am wondering if that causes the separationI saw in another review, I guess I could have it stitched with elastic thread by a trailor if that separates, but then it's already $30! I'll keep you posted!
