This is a review for the 27" TN panel model. Acer makes it very confusing by assigning such a similar model number to the IPS panel. My monitor arrived in a well packaged boxed in perfect condition. No dead pixels. No light bleed. I have never used an IPS monitor so I don't know how much different they look. This replaced a 7 year old Acer V223W 22" monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050. The difference is very noticeable. The colors look good to me. The only thing I have noticed is that the blacks aren't a very deep black. Apparently this is a downside to TN panels.

Playing games at 165Hz looks fantastic. I have Gsync turned on, Vsnyc turned off and limit the framerate to 165 with MSI afterburner. I have played DOOM at a constant 150 to 165 fps and this monitor doesn't even hesitate for a second.

The stand seems to be quite stable and I don't mind the red feet since I have a black/red theme going on for my new computer. The Predator logo isn't distracting or out of place at all to me as other reviewers have complained about. The monitor adjusts easily up and down on the stand. It also rotates and tilts. The only downside to the base design is that it is too big to fit on the riser I bought. However, with the ability to adjust the monitor up and down on it's own stand I don't need one.

The menu is a little cumbersome to navigate as was the old Acer monitor I was using. It has plenty of settings to fine tune but is quite confusing on how to use until you have practiced a little bit with the arrow keys.

1440P looks fantastic. I was concerned that such a high resolution would "shrink" everything and I was right. I had to adjust the scaling in Windows display properties to 150% to be able to comfortably see things. This seems to work pretty well. Nothing looks distorted and games still run at the native resolution of the monitor. I was debating on getting the 32" monitor but they just don't have the same features as the 27" ones. Maybe in a year or two we will be able to buy a 32" version of this monitor. The 34" widescreen curved monitors are a little pricey and the aspect ratio looks a bit strange since they are so short and wide.

I didn't ding any stars but I had a huge problem when I first set this up. I plugged in the display port cable and the power cord and all I got was a no signal message. I called Acer tech support which is supposed to be some premium tech support service as stated on the fancy card in the box. They had no solution and basically told me I have a defective monitor. Come to find out the default input was set to HDMI. All I had to do was switch to display port in the menu and it worked. For the price this monitor should be able to auto detect the connection you have made and adjust accordingly. Acer tech support gets zero stars!!

1.0 out of 5 starsDo NOT Buy This Monitor From Amazon
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018
After reading through the reviews here and doing a lot of research, I decided I was willing to take a chance on this monitor. I was willing to risk getting one that had issues like some of the other reviews mentioned. However, what I didn't expect was the bait and switch from Amazon themselves.

I purchased this monitor new. "Sold and Shipped by Amazon," so I knew it wasn't coming from a third party. When it arrived, the branded Acer tape was already cut with generic tape over top of it. When I opened the box, the styrofoam was broken. When I pulled the parts out, the stand was dirty and smudged. The cables were smashed together in a random space in the sytrofoam. The manual wasn't even in the box. I wasn't very confident that the monitor was any good by this point.

After putting it all together anyway, I found that this monitor did in fact have a problem that caused the entire right half of the screen to be covered in red lines, even without any display cable plugged in. Playing with the settings did nothing to help. So I returned the monitor, since it was defective. But the real surprise here for me was that Amazon is apparently accepting used/returned monitors and reselling them as "new" even though they KNOW that the units are defective.

Whatever you do, do not buy this monitor from Amazon. Besides the issue that I returned it for, the monitor was great and definitely worth buying. If you want to risk getting a defective unit, at least do it through someone else who won't try to bait and switch you, like Amazon does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acer Predator XB271HU is absolutely an amazing 27in 2K 144Hz 1ms G-Sync gaming monitor. You wont make a mistake.

This is truly the best gaming monitor you can buy hands down. 27 in 2560 x 1440 G-Sync, 1ms response time at 144-165Hz by using the display port. This is the TN technology panel and not the IPS. The IPS can be seen better at side angles but has a response time of 4ms and this is only 1ms. No issues with seeing everything. Spot on. I don't use the built-in monitor speakers since I have Bose speakers or my Sennheiser GAME ONE gaming headset for gaming. The quality of this monitor is superb and truly the top of the line for gaming. Solid sturdy stand the goes up, down, tilts and you can also spin your monitor vertically too (make sure you have a long enough monitor cable to do that)..It's very well package for shipping too. You also get a 3 ft. Display cable, 3 ft. HDMI cable and a 3 ft. USB 3 cable and a special Predator support number if you need it. It also comes with two USB 3 ports on the left side of the panel. Nice. Make sure to read the directions in how to setup things correctly. There are lots of tutorials online on how to setup and turn on G-Sync through Nvidia Control Panel. Make sure to use the Display cable to get the 144+Hz speed etc.

This monitor is truly 10 times better than my previous well known and respected name brand monitor which was also a 27 in 1920 x 1080 with a 5ms response time at 60 Hz. I never thought that this monitor would make such a huge difference in regarding to the speed, detail visually and no tearing or ghosting while gaming. Everything is so smooth with G-Sync technology at 144Hz. It made all of my games look even better like never before. Just amazing and so superior than my other monitor in all aspects period. I'm still shock in how much of a difference this monitor truly makes. I never thought it would have such a huge impact on me but it has with a big smile.

I've read some reviews that didn't favor this monitor or they had some issues. I'm not sure if they were talking about this exact monitor XB271HU Abmiprz. I was a little concerned but, someone I know truly recommended this monitor and told me not to make a mistake and to purchase this monitor if I was using an Invidia graphics card to game or even to do heavy videos etc. I was also looking at other brands but, I'm so happy that I took my friends advice. I can tell you that this Acer Predator is it. Yes, I would purchase another one again without any hesitation at all. If you looking for the best gaming monitor, the Acer 27in Predator MODEL: XB271HU Abmiprz is the one to order. It's worth every penny and you won't even have any buyer’s remorse or be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars TN-Version not to be confused with the IPS version
Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2018

This is a TN Panel. I went with this version specifically because I have not been able to play FPS and fast motion games for years as they make me motion sick. I went back and forth looking for the best 27-32 1440p monitor I could find. I came close to purchasing another brands 32" 144hz with hdr and Freesync, but decided after pouring over too many reviews and YT videos. I could not be happier with this monitor. The motion is so smooth that I am happily playing anything I can throw at it with no ill effects. It is TN, so colors are not as good as IPS/HDR. For me, this was a better way to go. In the end with finding a good color configuration it has decent colors. Games still look vibrant and sharper than sharp. Being as I already had 2 1440p monitors ultrawide is honestly pointless and gratuitously expensive. I only have a GTX1070 so averaging around 100-120 FPS. If you want a fast monitor with solid G-sync I would highly recommend this. If you can stand a little motion and are really concerned about colors more than motion blur than you may want to spend the extra on the IPS version. I added the picture to give an idea of the color difference. They also say that the viewing angles are not as good on TN. This is true, but as you can see from my setup I am straight on period. The stand looks crazy, but actually matches my other two acer standard led's so I think it looks nice and is the sturdiest I have ever had (No wiggle). From the reviews I have read using an adaptive-type sync over trying to overpower your fps to hit your refresh rate is just a good idea. Now using it I can attest that the games I play (which are a very wide variety) have ranged from 60-200+ FPS and I am so thankful for GSync. I hope this review helps in an overly saturated market. Remember to always use a tool to check your monitor for dead pixels. Mine was flawless, but I have been on the receiving end of getting a flawed monitor. Not the manufacturers fault imo just the way it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, *FIXED VERTICAL TEAR SOLUTION*
Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2018
Verified Purchase
So if you've read any of these reviews, most of the bad ones are because of the vertical tear this monitor gets when you enable G-Sync. Fortunately, I have found a working solution to this problem. I'll address this first, and then get on with the actual review.

If you experience this, which it looks like most people do, there is a hilariously simple fix. Out of the box, this monitor was working great, but after about 2 weeks without issue, the dreaded tear showed up when I started playing a game with gsync. So, I did the classic "I wonder what happens if I turn it off and turn it back on." It worked. You have to go into the nvidia control settings, go to gsync, and turn it off. Sometimes the tear will show up again. Turn off gsync, restart your computer, then turn it back on. It should be fixed. I have not had any issues with this fix so far, so I am assuming this will work with other monitors as well.

Now for the actual review of the monitor itself, that issue aside. This is my very first 144hz monitor, so I do not have a baseline to compare this to. That being said, I have literally zero complaints with this monitor. The price is insanely good for what this monitor can do. Once you get all of your settings right (enabling the 144hz in your display settings, tampering with color settings and other things within the monitor's controls) this monitor looks gorgeous, and performs flawlessly. I have this aside a 60hz 4k monitor, and it has no issues working in tandem with another monitor.

All in all, if you're worried you'll get this tearing issue, which you most likely will, there is a fix for it, and an easy one. It is annoying, however, that you spend ~$500 on a monitor, and will know it's going to ship with a flaw, but just know there is an incredibly easy fix for it. So if you're not willing to up your budget another $100 to get another monitor that is on par with this one, there are virtually no issues with getting this one, and feel confident recommending it to you, given you have a moderate amount of troubleshooting and general computer experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent 2k gaming monitor
Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2018

I'm happy with the monitor, but there are a few things that I haven't liked about it. I would definitely purchase it again though, for the price it is amazing. The only major problem that I have had with the monitor is a single dead pixel that was present at first startup. I haven't got around to pursuing a replacement/fix, which I plan to do very soon, but depending on how the process goes I may lower the score a bit.

Pros:
-Refresh rates are as advertised.
-Very smooth and clear picture.
-Bright display.
-Great packaging.
-Easy assembly.
-VERY sturdy construction (don't put this on a flimsy desk).
-Stand is nicely adjustable in all directions, and base is wide and stable.

Cons:
-The entire thing put together will take up a decent portion of most desks.
-A single dead pixel upon delivery.
-The speakers are worthless.
-Throws off some heat. The screen itself isn't hot, but this running with my PC basically heats my room during winter.
-Disappointing, but it does NOT have any kind of eye-care technology. Eye strain is a thing with this monitor, but I've gotten used to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Gaming Monitor
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2018

Before this monitor, I had 2 run of the mill acer 1080p 60hz IPS monitors. They work great, and I gamed on them with no issue. However, once I got a GTX 1070 in my system I knew I wanted to try higher refresh rate. I recently got this monitor for $500, and I'm very impressed. The stand is high quality and very adjustable. The monitor looks high quality, and I like the obvious, front mounted buttons for the menus. It makes the menus super easy to use. The red accents on the stand might not be everyone's favorite, but I like it.

In game, the difference between 60hz and 144hz is insane. The higher refresh rate makes on screen action seem so much more fluid, and it makes it way easier to figure out whats going on in fast paced games. Rainbow 6 Siege feels amazing on it, as does Fortnite. Overwatch became much more playable for me, especially with characters that have to melee or otherwise constantly be turning. Apex Legends plays like a totally different game above 100 fps.

The bump from 1080p to 1440p was also fantastic. It adds a ton of details and really makes games look good. In battle royale games, it gives you a definite long distance spotting advantage. That being said, running 1440p at 144fps is not an easy feat. If you don't have an insane system, be prepared to turn down some settings if you want to really push this monitor.

Don't be afraid to buy this because it has a TN panel. From head on, the colors are fantastic. The viewing angles are poor but that's the tradeoff. If you plan on having the monitor front and center, you will be fine with a TN panel.

I don't really have any complaints. Even the USB hub has proven to be useful (always on powered USB ports are perfect for charging wireless headphones). I wish the predator logo lit up on the monitor, but that's the only thing I would change.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for PC gaming (from an average gamer)
Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2017
Verified Purchase
This is my first ever Amazon review, and usually I don't write reviews because I don't feel the need to, but I had to for something this pricey. I went from a GTX 660 with 60hz 1080p (that could rarely do 60fps, my best gaming experience came from ps4 pro) to a GTX 1080ti and a 165hz 1440p monitor with g-sync. Holy. Crap. I'm now in love with my PC again. G-sync is not a gimmic, it makes a difference when the frames are bouncing up and down and makes it so you can't tell when the frames drop, it's incredible. Yes it's probably too expensive for it, but wow does it make it buttery smooth.

I had no issues with black light bleed, or whatever everyone else was complaining about. It came on time with prime, it's well made and sturdy, easy to assemble with no screws or whatever to deal with, and comes with the display core you need for 144hz+ gaming. The menu is not hard to use, it does take a minute or 2 to get used to it though. It's extremely easy to OC from 144hz to 165hz, it took me less than a minute. In less than 15 minutes after getting the box, you'll be gaming in 1440p :)

Between buying a 1080ti and this, ($1500 est) I regret nothing, in fact I'm so happy I did. I revived my love for PC gaming, which has been dead for a few years now. It makes me giddy to use my PC now, and I'm glad I saved up for it. If you can afford this monitor, do it. It's a damn big display (27in, not the biggest but perfect for most, came from a 40inch tv and I love this more). I can understand anyone who wants to go ultra wide, but most can't do 1440p at 144hz, and if they can they cost over a grand, and on top of that not all games support 21:9 ratio display. So, for your money, I think this one of the best monitors out there in terms of bang for your buck. If you are reading this review, and are still looking, just get this one cause you won't be disappointed!

PS I have delved into 4K 60fps on my 4K tv, and I'll take 1440p with 165hz over it 10 times out of 10. Some day 4K 144hz will be affordable and more mainstream but that won't come for little while, this is the way to go

3.0 out of 5 stars Good monitor, dangerous cable
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2019

TL;DR at the bottom.

I've owned this monitor for about nine months, during which time the monitor has primarily been connected to the PC I built at the same time. The unit itself has performed in its intended purpose admirably and has a few very nice pros going for it in addition to following through on the promises of its tech specs:
- Sturdy base and mounting plate, while heavy, are secure and stable, able to withstand the bumping and shaking of most tables under normal use
- Size works well for a gaming setup, fitting the viewer's effective field of view comfortably
- USB ports. I don't personally use these too often, but the four USB 3 type-A ports provide a lot of flexibility for those who may like to have extras available and within reach
The monitor itself delivered on its promises for my needs for approximately 6 months of regular use and fits nicely in a gaming setup (my personal setup is included in the attached images). However, the problem that presented after these six months is what led to me removing two stars:

This product took my system completely out of commission for three months with a very unexpected and hard to diagnose issue.

For some background: my PC had worked very steadily until one day on reboot, the computer froze. All subsequent attempts to boot would either freeze or cause the system to fail its POST checks before even displaying to the monitor. After months of diagnosis and sending in suspect parts, nothing could be found that would cause such a failure - every part needed to perform startup was tested or replaced with new parts, and yet the system still refused to POST. Just recently, I discovered the source of my issues quite by accident and it was something no one I was in contact with had considered.

The display port cable that had been provided with the monitor was defective and potentially violates display port standards.

I discovered the solution as a result of this Reddit post of a user with a similar inexplicable issue (I'd post the link here, but that's not allowed by Amazon). In summary, cheaper display port cables may have a power connection pin at both ends which allows for bi-directional power transfer, which can cause issues as the computer attempts to boot, all while receiving power from another unexpected source (pictures of both ends of my own stock cord are attached for visual reference). Covering up the pin as suggested in the post solved the issue that had plagued my system for months and the cord was replaced. Since then, no issues have occurred and my system is back up and running healthily.

My biggest concern as a result of this whole issue is the risk Acer is setting up their customers for by supplying sub-standard connectors with their very sensitive (and expensive) products, which could potentially destroy other components in the end user's machine. I haven't personally seen other failures because of price cutting on this monitor yet, but I'm very wary now knowing that a relatively simple and important part of this product is being distributed - likely with many of Acer's displays - and features such a system breaking flaw. My recommendation to potential buyers would be to invest in an industry standard display port cord rather than the one in the box from the very start. It's too much of a risk to rely on defective equipment and a few extra dollars can save you the dangers the stock cord presents.

TL;DR: The monitor has worked wonderfully and according to it's specifications, but the included cords may break your system due to being substandard quality and below regulation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor but troubles recreating colors correctly

First off, I want to point out that if you're looking at this monitor because you want a good 2K 144fps monitor for gaming, then you've come to a great place, however, if you are trying to use this monitor for editing of any kind of color sensitive material then I highly advise you look at some IPS monitors.

Let's get to the meat of this review;

Pros:
-Easy to setup
-Mounts wonderfully to VESA mounts
-Excellent brightness and what I would consider good for gaming color reproduction
-Monitor flows very smoothly across very fast paced gameplay with no jutters, rips, or tears
-2K looks amazing especially when right next to a 1080p monitor

Cons:
-Color reproduction for anything other than gaming (even with custom color profile) can be a little jarring
-2 years after purchase I have 2 dead pixels, they aren't extremely noticeable as they take up very little of the screen real estate
-Short stock cables; trying to route a cable (especially the power cable) any further than 5 feet from the monitor is a challenge; at the height I have my monitors, I basically have 2 feet of distance I can play with.

TL;DR: This is an excellent monitor for gaming and anything not color important, super smooth and great quality. I highly recommend this monitor.
