How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

2.0 out of 5 starsDead. Dead Computer.
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2018
Being that this computer started shutting down and never powering back on in the third month (October 2017), I rate it low. It is May 2018 and finally Apple replaced two boards (Can’t remember which ones). They should’ve thrown in the money I’m paying for software I can’t use. For what I paid, not sure it’s worth it because I particularly dislike the extra peripherals I must buy to connect the universal tools everyone needs and uses these days. Totally missed that upon purchasing—bad consumer I know. Hopefully, it will act right from here on out and I can give it a better review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great computer, with a few shortcomings..
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2019
Scenario: I purchased this laptop to use for college. This is my first Apple product, and was skeptical when deciding to purchase this laptop.

Pros:
- Appearance. I mean, the thing looks absolutely bloody gorgeous with that brushed aluminum. It looks so classy and professional!
- The battery life is absolutely amazing. I can get anywhere between 10-12hrs depending on if I am streaming something or just working on a paper. No need to bring the USB-C charger all around campus.
- The giant touchpad is really useful. You don't have to look down or feel around the bottom of the computer to make sure that you are actually touching the pad so it will move your mouse around like I had to with my old Dell. The glass on it feels amazing for your fingers.
- The retina screen is stunning. It really is a gorgeous screen for streaming content, writing papers, scrolling through Facebook, and even editing photos in Lightroom.
- Mac OS Mojave is great. Dark mode is a feature that I was really looking for and that in conjunction with the Blue Light Filter (makes screen more yellow) allows me to look at the screen for longer without eye strain. Seamless integration with other Apple products is another plus I have found out, but this being my only Apple product I found it useless.
- Sound quality that you get from the speakers sets the bar for other laptops. Best I have heard, aside from my roommates Macbook Pro 15".

Dislike:
- Keyboard: I bought a hard-shell case and a keyboard protector for this to keep it nice, and the keyboard still managed to get dust underneath it to mess up my '6' + '7' keys. Also took a bit of time to get used to typing on this keyboard.
- The aluminum wrist pad is a magnet for oils, I have to constantly clean it to keep it looking respectable.
- Touchbar is stupid. It just slows me down because I have to look down at where the things I can interact with are. There is no feedback to tell that you actually clicked it, like a keypress has, so I find myself looking down and staring at it while I use it. I'd rather just use my mouse and interact with it, or give me back my physical buttons.
- Stupidly expensive. I mean seriously, this laptop cost $1800! I had to get more expensive touchbar model to get more than 2 USB-C ports, which gets me to my next downside..
- USB C ports are the future, but we are not there yet. I keep having to reach for my dongles to plug in everything from my flash drives/external hard drive, to my SD Card reader, and even for my adapter for HDMI. It would have been nice if they kept at least one USB-A plug for now. Also, I feel like my two most used ports are getting weaker, and by that I mean that they no longer 'click' when you insert something so it can easily fall out now.
- Bye Magsafe :/ My friends have the Macbook Air and I find that magnetic cable very convenient, compared to this traditional plug in. I hope when someone trips on it that you are firmly holding onto the laptop so it doesn't fall to the ground and cost you hundreds in repair costs.

Trash product. Screen cracked near hinges within 3 months. Apple refuses to consider a manufacturing defect and charges 475 to replace the screen. Pathetic customer service.
