5.0 out of 5 starsSuperb customer support!! and a great product in the end
Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2017
The product worked great for one head phone but when trying to use two headphones at the same time, we would lose sound, or have to re-pair the second device (some times in the middle of what we were watching). Because I spent a little more on this product (compared to the ones I have purchased in the past), I expected it to work better. I contacted Avantree's customer support and they had me try a few things, which didn't work. They sent me a replacement device, which was the wrong one (the Priva 3) and it still had the problem. They sent me the correct replacement, but it had the problem too. This is when I found out that it was only the second device that had the problem (which ever was turned on last). I provided them with this information and they said they had an updated firmware device they would send me. Honestly, at this point, I thought I was going to have to live with the issue. When I got the new device, it worked great. My wife and I have been able to watch our TV and movies without sound lose or any audio problems now for about a month.

On Aventree's customer support alone, I would give this product 5 stars. They were very easy to work with, responsive, and very helpful.

I have use the TaoTronics Bluetooth transmitter with a spliter, but we would constantly get drops or audio problems. With the latest one, I haven't had any issues.

1.0 out of 5 starsDown low, too slow!
Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2018
08-07-18: Update - After reading my review, the seller offered to send out a free replacement transmitter and matching earbuds of a model that was supposed to have lower latency. Whether it did nor not was never known, as the earbuds they sent was defective right out of the box. It made a loud buzzing and the battery only lasted two minutes on a full charge before beeping that it was dying. I brought this to the seller's attention, but now they won't do anything about it claiming that there is no warranty on their free replacement. I wish I could change that rating to zero stars.

For my needs, just awful. Both the headphones and the adapter I used were supposed to be "low latency". They were anything but. I still have not found any Bluetooth audio product that lives up to that promise. If you need quick response for live music or any other application where any noticeable latency exists, just move on. Bluetooth is not the technology yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Low Latency and Range in a Very Small Size (EDITED REVIEW)
Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2017
Verified Purchase
This Bluetooth (BT) transmitter DOES have great low latency when used with Avantree's Audition PRO headphones. (Note that you have to have both low latency headphones AND low latency BT transmitter in order to realize a low latency experience.) There was no perceptible lag between video actions (lips moving, drumsticks striking drums, etc.) and the accompanying sound. 2) Range is good. I got no sound drops at a range of about 42 feet with a standard home wall between headphones and transmitter.

In a prior review I gave 3 stars because the battery did not keep a battery charge when shut off. HOWEVER, based on that review Avantree contacted me and sent a replacement unit along with a courtesy gift. The replacement arrived promptly, works exactly as described and holds a battery charge just fine. It took several back and forth emails to convince Avantree to send a prepaid shipping label to a U.S. facility. They had originally asked me to ship the unit back to Hong Kong and then be reimbursed for the shipping costs (between $20-$50 depending on speed of return). Avantree eventually provided a prepaid shipping label to their U.S. facility. Hopefully, you won't have any problems with this Bluetooth transmitter. If you do, I expect that Avantree has revised their replacement policy. Maybe it speaks to the quality of the product if my need to return a defective unit was so unusual that they had not previously needed to establish a U.S. return policy consistent with what we've come to expect from Amazon vendors. So, I say go for this one. It's a pretty impressive little piece of technology.

4.0 out of 5 stars Functionality and sound are great. Connecting to your AV system might take some improvising.
Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2017

Technically this device works well. It paired with my Bluetooth earphone buds immediately, and the sound comes through clearly without any lag at 20 feet away. There are, however, some connectivity shortcomings. The device comes with a cord with a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mini-plug on each end - one end to connect to the device and the other to an audio out source for the TV.. However, no where on my 2016 television or AV receiver is there an audio out that accepts a 3.5mm jack plug. The headphone out jack on a standard AV receiver requires a 6.5mm (1/4 inch) plug. I was able to connect the Bluetooth transmitter to the headphone out jack using a 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that I also bought on Amazon - after discovering that I needed one after the transmitter had arrived. It would have been helpful if the write-up for the device on Amazon alerted one to this - or better yet, the appropriate 6.5mm jack plug-in was included with the device by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, even with a high-end AV receiver, plugging in to the headphone jack cuts the sound out from the speakers, so I'm the only one who can listen to the TV. This is great if that is what you want. It is not so great if the objective is to supplement your hearing with ear buds while others are also watching TV.

The transmitter also comes with a pair of red/white audio out plugs on one end a 3.5mm plug on the other end to plug into the device. I discovered holding the R/W connections to the speaker out that this would work to have sound both through the earbuds and the speaker system. I just have to figure out how to make a permanent connection to the speaker outs. Absent some adapter to plug into them, I'll probably just cut the R/W plugs out and hard wire into the speaker outs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works for headphones but not good enough for speakers
Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2018

If you just need a splitter to listen to two headphones at the same time, this probably would work fine. However, my purpose was to connect two sets of outdoor speakers around my pool area. This did not do the trick and here's why: there is a slight delay in the sound/music coming out of the second device (headphones or speakers). So if two people are listening to music on headphones and there's a half second or more delay, no big deal. But when you are trying to sync music over four speakers (two in each set that receives the BT signal) and you experience that delay, it's very annoying and just doesn't do the job. I returned this item and ordered the TaoTronics Bluetooth 4.1 Transmitter / Receiver, 2-in-1 Wireless 3.5mm Adapter (aptX Low Latency, 2 Devices Simultaneously, For TV / Home Sound System). Set it up and it connected to both of my speakers and worked pretty good all afternoon. There were times I noticed a slight delay but not as bad as the Avantree. Thought I was good to go. Then, one set of speakers lost it's signal and I haven't gotten it back to work yet. It's not my speakers because if I connect directly from my phone they work great. But I think there's even a better solution but it requires using two devices (like two phones or in my case my ipad). I checked out the AmpMe app, downloaded it, set up an account and now I can play on both sets of speakers. I use my ipad to connect via Bluetooth to one set. Then use my phone to connect to the other set via bluetooth. Then you go into the AmpMe app and sync the two devices (phone and ipad) together. Go back to my phone and play my music. There may be a slight delay but you actually have an adjustment function on the app. Other than a few seconds of delay at the beginning of a song it seems to work great. Thought I'd share my trials and solutions. PS. I may hold onto the TaoTronics just so I can use it to transmit to my speakers (even if only for one pair) from my DVD player for outdoor movies.

Perfectionist
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product and outstanding support
Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2018

I frequently watch TV after my family has gone to bed. With my wife being a light sleeper and my hearing getting progressively worse each year, there's effectively no compromise volume at which I can hear the dialog clearly and she can sleep soundly.

A few years ago, I bought a 25' extension cable for my wired headphones, so I could plug into the stereo and still sit on the couch to watch the tube. It worked, but was inconvenient. After several years of feeling guilty about not really needing to spend money and manufacturing resources to solve this most first-world of problems, I finally succumbed to sloth and decided to get a Bluetooth transmitter for the stereo to use with my wireless headphones.

After much reading, I settled on the Avantree Priva IIA. This transmitter has many features, which I'll refrain from listing here; see the product page for details. Upon receipt, I charged it, connected it to my stereo, and paired it with my headphones. The pairing process was fast and easy, and I was listening to a show within a few short minutes. (I also tested pairing to two headsets simultaneously, which also worked as advertised.)

Once initially paired, I find that my headphones reconnect quickly. This is true when first turning the transmitter power back on after it's been off, or once I come back into range after wandering away. The lights on the transmitter tell you what's going on (charging, pairing, paired). Other than that, there's not much to say - it just works. So far I've tried this with three headphones / speakers, and with three audio sources. In every combination, the setup works as expected.

My only complaint is that the Priva IIA transmits a persistent, high pitched whine to the headphones. It's quiet enough that I only notice it when there is no sound from the audio source, such as when I pause the show I'm watching. Any normal sounds from the TV, radio, etc. are enough to overcome the whine to the point that, for practical purposes, it's not an issue.

To be sure, though, the Priva IIA is the component in the system that is producing the sound. The sound occurs with all of my three headphones / speakers when they're connected to the Priva IIA. None of those receivers exhibit the sound when connected to any other transmitter (i.e. phones, tablets). If I gradually turn the stereo volume down, I hear the whine emerge as the foreground sound fades. When the whine is present, however, turning down my headphone volume makes it go away. Similarly, if I turn off the Priva IIA while my headphones are powered on, the sound stops immediately. And, plugging/unplugging either the USB power or 1/8" stereo connections in the Priva IIA changes the pitch of the sound. This is annoying, but not enough to knock off a star, because 99% of the time I can't hear the noise.

Finally, I have to compliment Avantree's outstanding customer service. The first unit I received had a problem where the audio would drop out every few minutes, and sometimes every few seconds. After testing a variety of configurations, I determined that the Priva IIA was the source of the problem, and contacted Avantree support for help. They responded quickly and offered a replacement unit. I asked about updating the firmware on my existing one (the instructions talk about DFU mode), but support stated that that wasn't possible. They did, however, ask if I wanted to wait a few weeks for the updated model to be available before they shipped a replacement. I agreed, they stayed in touch during the interim, and the new model arrived shortly thereafter. I've been using the replacement for a week or two now, and it's been flawless so far.

Customer support is as important to me as the product, itself - and Avantree excels in both regards. I recommend the Priva IIA without reservation, and will certainly look to Avantree first when shopping for similar products in the future. Thanks for a great experience!

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good

So far so good. This dongle reminds me of one I bought a few years ago called Anycom. That worked quite well with matching headphones but suffered from short battery life and tricky pairing plus short range and random signal loss. I used that mainly for music and gaming, so latency problems were not noticeable. I bought this transmitter for the longer class one range and better pairing/connection. It has worked very well paired to their 40 hr headphones. I particularly like the longer range that lets me listen several rooms away, the fact that it rarely loses the signal and much easier/faster pairing. The delay between visual and audio signal is almost not noticeable, depending on the audio source. For tv use I use the audio output from the cable box, but the output from the tv works well too. There seems to be a bit more delay if I use my audio receiver output. The tv channels themselves don't seem to be in perfect sync a lot of the time even with normal tv viewing. Overall it is working well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with actual vs. advertised performance
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2018

This review is for anyone who is trying to make your existing audio component stereo's work together as a "whole house" system.

Device arrived quick and well packaged. I hoped to use this to send wireless audio from zone 2 on my Yamaha RX-A1040 receiver to Bluetooth speakers elsewhere in my house. I just want a sound system that can play WHATEVER I'm listening to, everywhere in my house.

I bought this particular transmitter because the advertised range is supposed to be 100 feet, and because it was recommended by Amazon. Setup is very simple, hooked up and transmitting in less than 5 minutes, Bluetooth receiver connected quickly and then nothing but bad news.
Two intolerable issues I found:
1. The farthest range I could get is about 25 ft, with no walls or obstructions. Beyond that the Bluetooth connection begins to cut out, or to completely drop. I could re-connect by bringing the receiver back within the 25 ft range. Unfortunately, my components are about 60 feet apart with a wall between. I got similar results when I attempted to use other BT receivers. Also, I found that walking between transmitter and receiver interrupts the signal.
2. The latency delay for my receivers were all about 3-5 seconds from the source. This makes for a really ridiculous listening experience. I don't have any APTx compliant devices to try... I am sure that would be better. For those considering this unit: Ignore the promise of zero delay if you try to use legacy BT devices for listening in tandem with other output.

The folks at Avantree seem eager to help, so I am going to give them a chance before I request to send this back for refund.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three Stars
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2018

They sell this as a system, with headphones. This is the battery powered base, instead of the AC powered base that comes with the complete Avantree set. I have the complete set and it is great! It is a perfect system for watching TV at night without disturbing the rest of the family, assuming that you purchased the headphones. The sound quality is great and the headphone battery lasts a long time between charges. The only reason I do not give this battery powered 5 stars is because I purchased it to use with my Avantree headphones in hopes that it would work for live music monitoring, in place of wired earbuds. I saw that it was advertised as having a minimal delay. A delay is common to Bluetooth devices. This presents no problem if you are using it to watch TV or listen to music from your phone. But the delay is enough to prevent this unit from being used for live music monitoring applications, thus I see no need to offer a battery powered unit.

This product works as advertised and I love being able to have great audio quality to my headphones whenever I want. It's great for quiet movies / dialogue heavy movies where you can miss a lot without headphones. I can also wear my wireless headphones while I do things in other rooms and still hear the TV.

My only ding is that I frequently have to re-pair my headphones to it. It's not always a smooth connection process and I spend 10-15 minutes at almost every use either getting my headphones connected or troubleshooting a lack of audio. This is worth it to watch a long movie, or binge some Netflix, but not so much for 30 minutes of TV watching.
