5.0 out of 5 starsEasy Mounting, Great Performance for Price

Great cheap upgrade to the stock ryzen cooler. The wraith stealth cools just fine, but these budget tower coolers are a lot quieter. Cools well enough that with the right fan curve, it only needs to kick on at load. Remains cool at idle or minor load without the fan on, and I have high ambient temps.

Some things to note:
+ Mounts to your motherboard's stock back-plate. Install is as easy as it can get.
+ Comes with an extra set of fan clips, so you can upgrade it to a dual fan no problem. These are surprisingly hard to find sold separately, for coolers that don't come with extras!
+ Comes with MX-4 thermal paste, enough for 2-3 applications. MX-4 is A-tier and benchmarks within 1* of the best non-liquid metal pastes out there, save your money!
= If you're mounting it and your computer case has a cut-out behind the motherboard to mount after-market back plates, you will need to do something to keep presssure on the back plate throughout the install process. I used a book.
= fan clips bend out of shape every time you remove them. just grab the U-shaped part on the ends where they loop back on themselves and pinch every time you replace fans.
- fan clips have a tendency to scratch the finish off the cooler. mount the top side first so only the bottom gets scratched and it'll be invisible once mounted. alternatively you could stretch the clips to not scratch anything, and then pinch them tight once mounted. unless you have tiny hands you can only do this with either the cooler un-mounted, or your ram/gpu and vrm heatsinks uninstalled.

1.0 out of 5 starsAmazon cannot package this item - buy somewhere else
Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2020
I don't generally leave a product review that describes my experiences with the seller, but this is fulfilled by Amazon and Amazon clearly has a problem with fulfilling this item. Where else would you read the warning I am giving below?

My first Arctic Freezer 33 was shipping in a bare retail box with dented corners. When I opened it, the fan spacers were randomly squished out of the gap between the fan and the fins, the fins were bent, and the heatpipes had popped out of the base. The entire assembly was skewed by a few degrees or so in the "vertical" plane, and that was enough.

I selected "gift wrap" for my second Arctic Freezer 33. It was shipped in a retail box with dented corners inside a large and thin manila baggie envelope. When I opened it, the fan spacers were randomly squished out of the gap between the fan and the fins, the fins were bent, and the heatpipes remained in the base, at least within millimeter of thumbnail.

I guess that's an improvement, but Amazon is completely incompetent in shipping this item in a way that it will arrive undamaged. The retail package is minimal posterboard with a dash of cardboard for flavor and needs to be inside a PADDED BOX. It's supposed to be a good cooler - buy it somewhere else.

I have a sneaky suspicion about this item showing up in "Amazon Warehouse Deals"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent heat sink
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2019
Verified Purchase
I originally bought this due to my pre-installed stock cooler being rather insufficient at keeping my cpu cool, and a friend had recommended it to me. Besides the heatsink barely fitting into my case, I did have some difficulty installing due to the motherboard fan support that is currently being used by this oftentimes liked to slip behind the cable shroud.

Being an utter novice and even reading the directions, I accidentally installed the fan incorrectly the first time, thus creating a vacuum between my rear exhaust and heatsink fan. Flipping the fan to the other side was easy enough, however getting the fan clips to secure themselves on the fan was a bit difficult, causing the fan to slide and causing me to accidentally stretch the metal fan clips slightly too wide. A readjustment and snapping the fan back in later, it works amazingly well at keeping my cpu nice and chill. I also don't take much notice as to how loud the fan is, as even though it spins between 800-1400 rpm according to HWinfo, it's not very noticeable unless it's right next to your ear.

My only issue is trying to make sure the fan cable not hit my top intake fans, as the only way I was able to keep the cable from hitting the heatsink fan itself was to arc it over the top near the top fans.

Current setup:
Mobo: ASUS Prime B450M-A
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
PSU: Corsair 750w RMx 80 plus gold (replaced a 450w EVGA 80 bronze that more than likely was damaged on installation when I bought it. The 750 is a bit overkill, but I do intend to use it when I decide to build a rig.)
RAM: 2x 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3000 DDR4
SSD: ADATA SU650 256 GB
HD: Seagate ST2000 2 TB
Fans: 3 LED Thermaltake Riing 120mm with fan controller
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P350x

Overall I am very satisfied with this heatsink, and I would recommend people to grab it if it fits their setup and are unwilling to shell out the cash for a liquid cooler.

Fantastic cooler. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, I just wanted something roughly equal to the Hyper 212 however I feel like this is superior. I dropped 13 degrees on my R5 1600 @ 3.8GHz. Idle at 33C, gaming at 45C. The included MX-4 is a really great paste, I will have to get more of this for future builds. Better than Arctic Silver 5 in my opinion.

Super easy to install. Took only 8 minutes or so, only mistake was screwing the bracket mounts in the wrong way the first time so I had to take them off and flip them but that was completely user error.

+Looks great in my build
+Feels like quality construction/materials. Heavy for it's size.
+VERY quiet fan
+Top notch thermals

Overall I'm glad I got this over something more expensive. I feel like this is a better deal for budget builds not looking to spend $100 on RGB cooler.

4.0 out of 5 stars ... off i want to say that i am thoroughly satisfied with this cooler
Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2018

so to start off i want to say that i am thoroughly satisfied with this cooler, in fact it is exactly comparable to the corsair H100Iv2 that it replaced. i am running an i7 6700k at stock speeds and under idle the cpu cooler keeps it at 25-30c depending on the temperature of my room. at full load with aida64 after about a 30 minutes it peaked at 68c and had average of 62c on the hottest core which in my opinion is very good for an air cooler of this size and also leaves a good amount of head room for overclocking if that's what you want to do. now, the build quality of the actual heat sink and fans are seemingly very good but as i just received the product i can't speak for the longevity of the cooler. installation is easy enough especially if you have a large roomy motherboard. the only problem i had is with the rubber spacers on the fans, they are held on by a very cheap adhesive and fall off very easily and they're extremely important because they are what keep the fans from laying directly on the heat sink which can cause vibration and rattling. i actually lost one of the spacers and because it fell off before installation. also i had to take the spacers off and reapply them with my own adhesive because the spacers on each fan were different sizes for some reason and so were the brackets that keep the fans on the heat sink which is odd and they were on the wrong side for each fan to have correct air flow. i suspect that the heat sink was installed backwards to how its meant to be but there was no indication of this so instead of taking the heat sink off and wasting thermal paste i just reattached the spacers to the correct orientation myself. the cooler looks good and is very quiet as it easily overpowered by case fans in noise. if you dont mind fiddling with the rubber spacers upon installation then id say its definitely worth the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Effective
Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2019
Color: RedStyle: Freezer 33 TRVerified Purchase
I bought this cooler because at the time it was the cheapest available option for Threadripper air coolers. I wanted something cheap so I could put my system together and test it out. I had the parts to do a custom watercooling loop, so I didn't want to spend any more than I had to just to get it assembled and working (having to replace DOA components after installing a custom waterloop because you never tested before installing it sucks). I was actually really impressed by this cooler. I ran it for a couple of weeks while I was testing things out with my new system and it was able to cool my 2950X pretty well. It was able to hold my CPU at 4.0GHz in "normal" use, and 3.8GHz in stress test use and still stay within acceptable temperature ranges. It was able to get through a test run of TimeSpy at 4.3GHz (1.425v), but I won't say it did it well lol (during the CPU portion of the test it hit 74c). The fan definitely moves some air and you pay for that with the noise level as it gets warmer, but it is definitely not what I would consider bad for a CPU fan, I have had much worse. I'm also intrigued by the fan being advertised as 3-phase powered, as it does allow for lower RPM than usual, and does seem a lot quieter at similar RPM than many other fans in its class. I'll probably be buying their static pressure designed fans for my radiators once I finish the custom loop. Overall, I bought it because it was the cheapest, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for anyone who's not concerned about heavy overclocking

This is a great product and is easy to install. I wanted a air cool solution for cooling of my new PC and picked this one because I had used Arctic before in my last build. That one was built in 2011 and never had any problem. In fact it is still going strong. I like the push/pull air flow on this cooler a lot. It runs quiet and is doing a good job keeping my CPU cool. One note: I don't over clock my processors even though I could so I can't tell you how it would perform, but my guess is that it would keep up. The one piece missing was a small grommet used for spacing with the fan clips. Not a major issue, but it would have been nice is Arctic would have added a few extra's. I had to improvise a fix. Overall Great product. I highly recommend if your looking for a air cool solution to cool your CPU...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cooler on Par with Dark Rock 4
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2019

Great performing cooler for a fraction of the cost versus a Dark Rock 4 or Noctua. Use it on my Ryzen 5 1600 with a slight overclock and stays under 50 degrees while gaming. The fan is super quiet and replaced my Deepcool Gammax, which was a loud cooler. The black looks cool and the white fan is a great contrast. If the white/black theme is something you’re looking for then look no further.

The only con I have is that with its size it’s a pain to install while the MOBO is in the case. I would recommend installing on the MOBO prior to securing it to the case.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Match for the New Ryzen 5 2000 Processors
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2018
Color: RedStyle: Freezer 33 TRVerified Purchase
As part of system upgrade, I recently bought a Ryzen 5 2600, an Asrock X370 PRO4 motherboard, and some Crucial DDR4 memory. In pursuit of doing this economically, I had hoped to make use of the stock cooler for a period of time. Unfortunately, the stock Wraith Stealth cooler seemed barely adequate for its job, and I was looking for an upgrade sooner instead of later.

I originally was eyeing a larger (720 gram), more expensive heatsink ($50) , when I noticed that Freezer 33 TR was available for $25, on Amazon, from Arctic Direct. At that price, this medium sized heatsink became a very good choice. (I estimate that this heatsink alone, without the fan, weighs about 576 grams.) Besides the price, this Arctic heatsink had the advantage that it could be mounted using the motherboard's existing backplate. (The other heatsink required removing the original backplate and replacing it with a proprietary one.)

One has to visit Arctic's web site to find installation instructions, but after looking them over, I was able to install the heatsink, easily, without any need to remove the motherboard from the case. The heatsink and fan do not interfere with the closest RAM slot, but the heatsink is fairly tall. (My computer case measures 7 5/8 inches wide (194 mm), and I have about 9 mm of clearance between the side cover and the top of the Freezer's fan clip.)

I followed Arctic's directions on how to apply the thermal paste to this heatsink, but, in retrospect, I probably could have used less thermal compound. Typically I would have applied a small amount and spread it with a piece of plastic, cut from an old credit card. Fortunately, the supplied MX-4 thermal paste is not very thick and any excess paste should be squeezed out over time.

It hardly seems fair to compare this heatsink to the stock Wraith Stealth. The Stealth uses a 90 mm fan on top of a round aluminum heatsink that is only 20 mm tall (about 3/4 of an inch), measured without the fan. I was reluctant to run something like Prime95 for more than a minute or two, because the temperatures were approaching 80 deg. C.

When first examining the Freezer 33 TR, I was a little concerned about the narrowness of its base. It is elongated (52 mm), to accommodate Threadripper processors, but it is only 30 mm wide. The four direct contact heatpipes, together, are only 24 mm wide. However, Arctic reassures users that they are centered over the processor's cores. (The Ryzen 5 2600 heat spreader measures 38 by 38 mm.)

In practice, I am finding this heatsink to be a good choice. It is a good match, price-wise, with the budget system upgrade that I had in mind. With the processor at its default settings and running Prime95, I am seeing temperatures level out around 58 deg. C. (room temperature of 26 deg. C.). However, the heatsink will struggle when overclocking and boosting the core voltage. At 1.35 volts, running Prime95, the temperatures were over 70 deg. C.; keeping the voltage to around 1.275 volts, the temperatures stayed below 70 deg. C.

One thing I noticed is that the fan speed tends to be much higher than the 1800 rpm maximum that Arctic describes. Setting the fan controller to full speed in the BIOS, the fan tops out around 2960 rpm, which is audible above the rest of the system's fans. Fortunately, the fan does not need to work that hard under most circumstances.

[In the meanwhile, I found this on the Arctic web site: "Current mainboards are developed with 1- or 2-phase motored fans in mind to measure the fan speed. As a result, the indicated RPM of ARCTIC fans with a 3-phase motor will be around 1.5x higher than the actual speed of the fan."]

All in all, I anticipate that I'll be making use of this cooler over an extended period of time. I can overclock the Ryzen 5 2600 comfortably to 3.9 GHz at 1.275 volts, and I am not that concerned about trying to squeeze another 200 to 300 MHz out of it, by pushing the voltage up to 1.4 volts.

Sidebar: The 2600's base speed is 3.4 GHz with boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz. With all cores under load, a steady boost speed of around 3.65 GHz is maintained. The stock voltage is 1.1275 volts. Efforts to overclock the Ryzen 5 2600 typically top out around 4.1 to 4.2 GHz, if voltages are kept below 1.45 volts.

The pictures below compare the Freezer 33 TR to AMD's Wraith Stealth cooler. Note the relative narrowness of the Freezer's base, especially the direct contact heatpipes. One picture shows the clearance between the front of the Freezer's fan and the first RAM slot on the motherboard.

4.0 out of 5 stars The tower looks great. The matte black looks excellent
Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2018

Mine installs about 1 degree crooked which kinda kills my OCD as it is in there not completely perpendicular/parallel to the rest of the build. After trying to figure out why that is it appears the crossbar that mounts to the mainboard simply was not welded to the base where the heat pipes are perfectly straight. My AM4 back plate on the back of the main board that this uses is perfectly straight. This is an expensive cooler and they could have given you a few more of the shoulder bolted AM4 screws just in case of stripping a screw. I bought the version that came with 2 fans but decided to only use one on the heatsink and use the other on the back of the case for exhaust.

The tower looks great. The matte black looks excellent. The heat pipes are spaced among the fins and the fins also have a closed wall on either side which directs the air through the tower better. Both of these features maximize cooling efficiency. The heatsinks slim profile allows for plenty of space on either side, whether the RAM side or the VRM side of the AM4 socket, and my board has a tighter than usual AM4 socket area. I'm pretty happy with this cooler. Arctic makes good products as far as I can tell.
