I wanted to review this because I felt like reviews on ALL of the baby monitors out there is what helped me the most and I feel like this Monitor doesn't have the reviews it should. My son is 5 months old now...this is our second monitor. The first broke within the first month of him being with us and I did so much research to get to that one, I was so disappointed when I had to go through the process AGAIN. We received a credit for our other broken monitor and paid additional money out of our pocket to get the Netgear Arlo and it was SO worth it. WE are glad our first one broke (Project Nursery for anyone who would like to know...DO NOT DO IT)

It was super easy set up..self explanatory if you read the directions (READ the directions).

It has a battery/travel mode which is A M A Z I N G. It is not STUCK in the nursery on a chord. You can unplug and take it wherever he is. If he is in his swing napping in the family room, you can keep an eye on him without having to move a chord and plug it in and reset it up BLAH BLAH BLAH. Just plop it in front of him and go about your cleaning. The battery life is LONG. I work from home, so we utilize this feature often just trying to keep him happy throughout the day while I work. Hours of battery life with constant viewing. The chord it came with to charge the netgear Arlo is SUPER long also and we love it. It is so important.

Next, the Wifi connection...we have two different speed wifi networks...a 5 Ghz and a 2.5 I believe. His bedroom is close enough to my desktop and modem to connect the camera to the faster network which loses strength quick because it is not meant to be a signal you get throughout the house (primarily used for a desktop computer IN the office)....with that being said...it goes ACROSS the house, on this 5 Ghz network with very low strength and we have never experienced signal loss....not ONCE. We have only experienced delay, which is common in Wifi Monitors, but this delay is seconds at most.

The Arlo app, love that it is on ALL platforms possible. I can log in on my computer through the web browser, I can log on my iPhone AND we actually bought a HD Fire Tablet, downloaded the app through Amazon on IT and we use that as our baby monitor....its amazing and you're not constantly having to use your phone as the only way to view the camera while also trying to scroll through Facebook and answer the 10 messages you ignored from earlier all while trying to keep an eye on your baby. Sold. The app is user friendly. I figured how to turn the status light off on the camera at 3 AM, sleep deprived. If I can do it, so can you. And I mean, you can turn the obnoxious light on the camera OFF...did you catch that? No sticky not over it so it doesn't wake your baby who is so easily distracted and fighting sleep.

Next, the features ON the camera itself....it plays lullaby's...didn't think we would use this feature, but every now and then we do. Their is a night light on the camera also, you can turn it on by the app or a button on the side of the camera...nice feature when you're hunting down the paci that just launched across the room. It has the talk feature...its more used to yell at your dog to stop that or Husband to tell him he is doing it wrong from the other room (totally kidding..not)..I am sure this feature will be more handy as he gets older. The one feature I thought I would miss from our other camera was the 360 panning. The ability to move the camera where you want BUT this camera has a wide angle lens and if you set it up to view the largest angle...I can literally get wall to wall in his nursery. It is PERFECT. The image quality is insane. I never thought a baby camera would be this clear. I can snap photos and record videos of my child being cute. It also tracks temp and humidity...I find it not 100% accurate. I think it picks up a lot of heat the camera itself puts off, but again, not a deal breaker to me.

I think I officially covered everything about the camera and hopes this helps someone's search. You will have positives and negatives to all camera's...that is just electronics, BUT if you have decent Wifi this will be great. I can check in on my child when ever I am not home and that gives me so much peace of mind.

So I waited a long time before writing this review. 10 months in fact because I wanted to keep using it and seeing if this product, given its high cost, would improve or if it was some kind of error on my end of the pure FRUSTRATION I’ve experienced owning this product.

My Needs: I needed a baby monitor that was 1) had HD quality video 2) was accessible remotely via my phone, iPad or computer.
Why I Chose Arlo: after reading and watching YouTube reviews and seeing how easy it was to set up (so I thought) and the picture quality and the fact it met all my needs it was a done deal. I also found out a friend had the Arlo Security cams set up and was impressed at how easy he could access them.
My Experience - The App: So first off, if your going to create a high quality camera who’s only user interface is an app….MAKE SURE THE APP WORKS. I cannot tell you how frustrating it has been owning this product staring at the eternal “connecting” swirl on the video feed as it struggles to connect to the camera. The app as a whole is good in terms of the features, data it gives you and your control. But if you can’t connect to the damn camera to do ANY of these things then what the heck is the flip’n point! The app’s connection to the camera is HORRIBLE. I thought it was me and my wifi at home but it seems to be everywhere I go I get this same experience. I moved about 7 months after purchase and got a WAY BETTER faster internet speed and experienced the SAME eternal “connecting” swirl experience when trying to connect to the camera. My previous internet service was Verizon FIOS and so was my new service, just faster connection, so my previous internet speed was not the issue after all. When I saw they create a brand new app and basically forced all IOS and Android users to upgrade to it I thought all my issues were solved. NOPE! Still get the same “connecting” swirl of eternity to connect. I then went to my friend and asked him to bring up his camera system on his phone to see if it wasn’t just me and not to my surprise he too gets hung up on the “connecting” screen when accessing his security system. So the App gets a big FAIL!! Oh and the camera just sucks on Android devices. I use a Fire HD as a monitor and the app simply acts worse on that OS than it does on iOS. I get more connection issues when using my Fire HD vs my iPhone/iPad.
My Experience - The Camera: The camera has good picture quality and feels very stable. It’s a shame that it can’t be turned up/down via the app but (for $175 like come on) but hey you can find other products that do that. There are two major drawbacks to the camera 1) no local storage of video: It would be great to stick a mini SD card in the camera and get local storage of video and constant recording instead of paying a monthly fee to access a cloud storage of video feeds. I’m sorry but if you can’t get the app to act right, I’m not paying to have video stored on their service. The camera has enough room and space to fit a SDCard slot, but I guess for the purpose of getting month service fee’s from customers they decided not to give us the option. The second issue is the battery life and the HORRIBLE connector. When the camera is running without being connected to power you’ll get a good maybe 5 hours of use before it dies. The power connector is crap. Pure crap! I’ve waken up so many times in the middle of the night to find the cable laid on the ground because it simply fell out of the connector to the camera. Like huh?!!! Why is this an issue on such an expensive product?!
My solution: I found none and went seeking a new product. Now, take my opinion for what it is, but go by yourself a Wyze Camera. I found that I was forced to go to this awesome product. I found them out of frustration of trying to find a new solution cause I’m not going to sit through a “connecting” window when checking on my children as they sleep in their cribs. Sorry, not happening! The camera’s are small and cheap! I was first hesitant to buy them cause 1) they were $25 bucks and like how good can you be for $25 bucks and 2) at that time I never heard of them. But I figured hey you spent $175 on a crappy camera and can’t spend $25?! So I took the dive and got one….them purchased 5 more! The cameras have everything this Arlo piece of garbage doesn’t 1) local storage. I use a 64GB mini SD card and have full access to the video it records at any given time. And 2) THE APP WORKS!!! I haven’t had ANY issues connecting to the app when needed to. Not once! And for $38 there is a 360 motion version of he camera where you get full 360 view of whenever your monitoring and controlled via the App. It’s a pure shame this product is just horrible. I was halfway tempted to buy their security camera kit, a huge investment, but if I’m paying $600 plus for a security camera for my home just to see a “connecting” logo when checking on my property. NOPE! I would NOT recommend this product, especially when using to watch a new born from a distance. It’s just not reliable at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much better then traditional monitors
Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2018
Style: Arlo Baby HomekitVerified Purchase
We have two of these now for about 7-8 months and couldn’t be happier. There are some drawbacks to getting a WiFi monitor vs a traditional one that I will get into later. But here are some of the features.

Picture Quality:
Far superior then traditional and more than adequate. There are times when baby has started to fuss and we could zoom in to face and see if pacifier is still in. If not we can see where it is, if it fell out of crib, etc.

Viewing monitor:
When we got 2nd arlo it came with free fire HD 8 and we basically use it as a dedicated monitor. There is really no comparison between checking baby on an 8 inch tablet vs those little 3 inch screens. We also frequently use our phones to check which works great.

User Access:
Some other comment mentioned how mom and dad can’t both check at the same time so I wanted to mention that’s completely wrong. In arlo you can create multiple accounts that can access/view simultaneously. Only one view per account, but multiple accounts is allowed and works.

Recording:
7 days of recordings free with arlo. We turned this off since we didn’t want recordings of our little ones online. This is your choice and configurable.

Alerts:
We don’t really use the alerts so can’t comment. I don’t see the need for a monitor since we prefer to have volume on and just be able to hear little one.

Listen Mode:
I love this feature and use it all the time. Sometimes while working in yard while it’s nap time I’ll just put my phone in listen mode in my pocket and can hear when baby starts to stir.

Air Quality:
The temperature and air quality features are nice bonus. I have a few portable temperature monitors in the house to track how well I’m Hvac system is working and I’ve been able to put them else where and just use arlo for kids rooms.

Other features:
You can talk to baby through monitor if you want. This works but we don’t use it often. The monitor also has some night light and jingle feature that are sub par. We use a separate sound machine / night light that works better.

Battery/Portability
Having the camera battery is a nice feature. We don’t take advantage of it often since kids nap in crib most of the time. But like all parents we’ve had those days where baby wouldn’t go to bed and we’ve had to improvise. Whether that means sleeping in car seat or swing or some other contraption, we’ve had success in unplugging arlo from power source and running off batter to monitor baby in a different room.

WiFi Monitor drawbacks:

These are drawbacks of all WiFi monitors not just arlo.

One is delay. I found the delay in old video monitor to be about 1 second while arlo can be 3-5 seconds. Not a big deal to me.

Another is initial connection time. Old video monitor would connect right away. Arlo can take longer for initial connection. Usually 5-10 seconds, but there have been occasions where it hangs a bit and I would just kill the app and start over, usually getting in quickly on second attempt. This is very infrequent and really not a big deal.

Other Comments:

A lot of reviews talk about connection issues. In 7ish months we had one issue where we had to reboot an arlo. Other then that it’s worked fine. If you have a decent WiFi setup in your house you shouldn’t have any issues. We have two WiFi access points in my house for better coverage.

Security is often a concern with WiFi monitors. Arlo takes this seriously and allows you to use strong passwords and user access controls. There are other inherent risks to IoT devices that I will not get into here but arlo controls are pretty good in this space.

1.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: DO NOT BUY!!!
Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2019

4.0 out of 5 stars Great camera with no issues after 18 months

Style: Arlo Baby HomekitVerified Purchase
We have two of the baby monitors and one single Arlo Q camera for our babies bedrooms and the living room respectively. We’ve had them for 18 months and have been very happy. I was hesitant at first since many reviews were mentioning poor software. We’ve thankfully had no issues so far. We haven’t really used the recording function so can’t speak much for that. We use the cameras to watch the kids when they nap/sleep and it works perfectly. We use an old iPad just for this purpose and we have it on all night in our bedroom since the babies bedrooms are a little too far away for us to hear if they scream at night. It works great. The resolution is great, even nighttime, and it’s easy to zoom in. This was very helpful when we were new nervous parents and the babies were little and we just wanted to zoom in and confirm that they were breathing. We can also talk to the kids through the cameras which works much better for us in the evenings rather than going in to their bedrooms and risk not being able to leave again😆 We also use the temperature monitoring a lot which is convenient. I honestly don’t think the temperature reads accurately, but at least it reads consistent so it’s still very useful. The cameras have also come in handy when we travel and want to check in on the apartment. Lastly I really like that we can display all the rooms at the same time without having to switch between them. And it also works great monitoring from the iPhone with the Arlo app. All in all highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for features.

Looked FOREVER for a monitor that works for two separate kid rooms. We almost got the lollipop, but this one had all the features and was cheaper. You can also purchase a variety of mounts for pretty cheap—including a twisty mount like the lollipop. This was really easy to install (did google some trouble-shooting adding users because they need to be invited by the primary user instead of creating a 2nd admin account). The 2nd camera had some lag in actually connecting, but after closing out the app and restarting the camera a couple of times, it’s been 100% seamless over the last 2 weeks.
It’s easy to turn the camera on/off remotely, which is perfect if you have the baby in your room. A little electrical tape over the bright blue power indicator light was all we needed to do to keep it from disturbing the kids, and it didn’t impact the picture at all.
We’re not crazy about stored footage on the cloud, but those settings can be customized/turned off, so it can just be a real-time camera (just a few second lag) without recording. You can also manually record clips/snap photos if you want to while you’re watching.
The zoom in feature is super useful, and the camera quality is such that you can see kids breathing depending how close it is (doesn’t need to be that close).
The temperature/humidity/air quality features are nice. It’ll alert you if a baby’s crying. It’s sensitive enough that the camera notifies me of a baby crying when it wasn’t even in that room.
The sound quality is good. It’s kind of creepy to play music and talk to the kids via camera, but if you’re into that kind of thing, the features do work great.
Be careful, though. Since it monitors remotely, you might take a hit in productivity if you watch these cameras while you’re at work! Customize the notifications, so your phone/watch doesn’t blow up with notifications every few seconds.
Our plan to handle babysitters without giving them access (no base station) is to set up a babysitter account on an iPad. We couldn’t get to work with our kindle fire, but it’s pretty old.
There just aren’t any monitors of this quality that come with a base station and also have WiFi/remote monitoring. I highly recommend this monitor—especially if you’re using it for multiple rooms. You can view 2 monitors on the same screen. We don’t have more than that, so I’m not sure what it looks like with more than 2.
Also, we’ve been through an app update and had no connectivity issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't understand the negative reviews!

Tl;Dr - Buy this monitor. The bad reviews are issues with people's wifi/internet or their ability to work electronics.

I bought this monitor about a month before my child was born because I wanted to make sure I had whatever we we're going to use set up and ready to go.

I read the reviews. Soooo many bad ones. Connectivity issues, picture issues, app issues etc.

I'm not sure if people just aren't setting this camera up correctly or aren't very tech savvy but I haven't encountered a SINGLE issue.

Set up is easy. Plug in, wait for the light to blink, connect to WiFi. Fairly straight forward.

Picture is awesome for what your buying. This isn't a 4k camera. People complaining about picture quality have too high of a bar. I can see exactly what I want to see on my monitor, which is my baby.

Night vision is great.

The Arlo app is awesome. It's user friendly, intuitive, and simple. My wife is NOT into tech. She needs something that just works, no fuss. After 5 min on the app she was navigating Arlo just fine.

The free library of stored images and videos is a huge plus. Subscriptions are available but it not a need for us.

This camera is AT LEAST worth you giving it a try. If something works better then fine, but there's no way Arlo put out as many bad cameras as there are reviews. I feel like some simple tech support would change people's minds on this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arlo Does Not Understand the Industry
Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019
Style: Arlo Baby HomekitVerified Purchase
As a new parent, I've learned first-hand exactly what's needed in a baby monitor;

Consistency. Reliability. Simple Interface. Stability. Connection Speed. Range.

The Arlo Baby accomplishes none of these. We have owned this monitor for over a year and continued to use it despite the issues we've experienced only because we have an uncommon ingenuity and I am an IT professional. But here are the basics.

This camera does NOT stay well connected to Wi-Fi and has a very short signal range. It will disconnect easily and often - the absolute worst nightmare of any parent sleep training a baby, because it requires that you enter the room and fiddle with the camera while your baby sleeps in order to fix it. Meanwhile the music/ sound that it's playing to keep your baby asleep is dead silent. We had to look into a signal extender just to get this to reach two rooms' distance.

The camera will download and install firmware updates whenever they apply, no matter what time that is. This means the Arlo baby making signal noises and going AWOL mid-sleep. It also means that your application functionality may be outdated if you don't have your automatic updates turned on for the app on your phone. You'll spend precious time as your baby screams trying to figure out why music won't play.

That said, the app is abysmal. Functionality often quits working without reason - requiring uninstall and reinstall, then resyncing. New updates will roll out that completely break the camera's functionality and you're left without a viable monitor/sound machine for days while the development team frantically tries to release a fix. Awful testing, awful support. Awful.

All of this is made worse by a simple fact: parents will not realize that there is anything wrong with the camera or app until it's too late. You don't know that your app needs updated, that the camera is unsynced, that there is a problem at all until you've put your baby down and made it out of the room. Now, you've got to troubleshoot and tech support while your baby screams and you have no access to the device in question. Wonderful.

As the title says - Arlo has no idea what is actually required of a good baby monitor. I don't want a platform that experiences constant issues that only rear their heads at the worst. possible. moments. Not as a sleep-deprived new parent. I need something that I can depend on to work. Without lag. Without issue. Every time.

I've made this camera work with tech-wizardy. It got two stars because I've rigged it to function and the IDEA of what they're going for is great. But I will say it again - to any parent - especially NEW parents - move along. Not this camera. Save yourself. I recommend a traditional, non-wifi option. No updates, no connectivity issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance and bountiful features

Best Baby Monitor, period. Even if you aren't in the Arlo ecosystem ( I am) this is a great monitor. It has nice features like lullaby music and a night light that shines from the back of the device that does a great job of illuminating a dark room without the need for a separate light. It also detects humidity and temperature levels. It can even distinguish between "noise" and a baby crying. The video quality is exceptional and the app (while a bit intimidating at first) is easy to use after a few minutes of navigation. Plus there's a nice tutorial when you first open the app and connect the camera. And for those worried about not hearing their baby when not looking at their phone, there's a button so that the audio plays through your phone with the screen off. I've never not heard my baby through the monitor. My only minor complaint is the battery life. Sometimes I like to bring the camera downstairs when my baby is not in his crib and so I like the monitor being able to come with me (without lugging the charger) but I only get about 2 hours. It's not a big deal, and honestly, for what it does, 2 hours is pretty good, it's just something to keep in mind. Several times I wanted to move to a different location of the house (while I'm running around doing things) and had to take the monitor back upstairs to charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Homekit cameras
Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2019
Style: Arlo Baby HomekitVerified Purchase
This camera turned out to be a good purchase. Since it is Homekit capable, I'm using it as a security camera instead of a baby monitor. The WIFI connection is very stable. I have not experienced any WIFI disconnects of any kind over the last month since I have been using it. I'm using a NetGear R7000 router in my hone.

One of the nice qualities of this camera is that it has a battery backup. So, if you unplug it for a while, the camera still works for several hours. This was feature I have not seen explained in many of the reviews and I thought was worth mentioning. Also, as with the rest of the Arlo line of cameras, you get a free 7 day recording of videos, which other companies don't give you. With the last firmware update, Temperature, Humidity, Air Quality (VOCs level), are all exposed to Homekit as well.

One of the issues I have experienced is that the sensitivity slider of the camera doesn’t work very well. No matter how low I place it, the camera is still very sensitive. The issue this sensitivity causes is this: When you turn the light on, it cause the motion sensor to be activated and cause a recording. When you turn the light off, this also cause the motion sensor to be activated and start a recording. Therefore, you end up with a lot of recordings that don’t show anything because the light level was changed. Also, if you create a Homekit trigger to turn the lights on when the camera senses motion, the camera will turn the lights on because you turned the lights off, because turning the lights off causes the motion sensor to trigger.

You can also create triggers based on the air quality as well. But there is no explanation of how the VOCs are calculated. The night vision is very, very good. In pitch black you can see a lot of detail. The quality is on par with the rest of the Arlo cameras.

On the whole, I would recommend this camera. The sensitivity issue is the only problem that causes a failure mode in this camera. Apart from that it works great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just don’t get it
Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2018

Our last monitor died after 1.5 years so we needed something for our daughter. We extensively researched the first go around and did not want a WiFi monitor at first (def don’t recommend this for newborn...more on that below). Now that she’s older we felt that maybe a WiFi monitor would be good to try out as we always have our phones on us and there wouldn’t be another monitor to carry around. I will start with the good...

The Good
When it works it has a clear picture and you can hear everything clearly.
Love that you can download and save the photos and videos! Lots of funny moments captured and saved that we couldn’t do with a normal monitor.
I travel for work and can check in when my husband puts my daughter to bed
Also it’s super cute with the bunny ears :)
I do like that it detects undesirable temps...I didn’t realize my daughters room was slightly warmer than our room (where the thermostat is) so I am able to adjust to make sure she is comfortable

The bad
Omg this thing always has issues connecting!!
We have very fast WiFi and the WiFi signal on our phone would be good and it will show on the screen that the monitor WiFi has full bars...but it still doesn’t connect half the time!!
We have to restart this thing multiple times a week! And it’s always when you know you should be looking in the room (baby crying) it doesn’t work. We have gone through all trouble shooting on this and still only about 50% success rate on having the camera pop up.
Many times when it does come up there is about a 10-15 second delay to come on...not really reassuring.
The speaker that allows you to talk into the room only worked for us twice...can’t get it to work at all now (not a huge deal but annoying)
The audio detection is also a mystery...she can be up in the room crying and no alerts go off for an extended period of time but lord knows if she’s not in there and you sneeze a whole floor away an audio alert comes up....we have played with all the settings and this is constantly an issue
A big thing for me at first was that there is no way to have a seperate destintive alert sound if you have an iPhone. If I had a younger child that woke up at night and my phone was on vibrate it will only buzz (kinda like a text) or ding. That is in no way enough of an alert to wake up a sleep deprived parent to a younger baby. I have come to terms with this now as my child is older but I would NEVER use this for a newborn. Evidently the android app does have this option. This has been a discussion for years on the Arlo boards and they did say it was coming months ago...but it hasn’t.
Also to get a good angle from the corner of the room you need the mount that is not included in this. I will include a picture of how we have it set up but this is with the additional mount which is not included.

All in all I want to love this so bad...but it has given us constant issues. I really wish they could get this right! The baby monitor industry is so behind on technology!

Edited to add photo of all the constant error messages you will receive!!
