5.0 out of 5 starsGreat opener. Install isn't super hard just takes time and patience.
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2018
I installed this myself. You can do it with some basic do it yourself experience, the right tools (socket wrench set, power drill, philips and flat head screwdrivers and a pair of pliers). I'd also have a bit of 2x4 handy to reinforce the top bracket to the ceiling if you're not using your old one.

Find the chamberlain install video on youtube. Work slowly and supplement with the paper manual.

If you're replacing your old garage opener, be aware you're probably going to have to replace the mounting brackets on the wall and door because the arm is narrower than a chain drive. Make sure everything is VERY securely fastened. Don't think you can mount a bracket in drywall. Especially the ceiling bracket. Use the 2x4 for support between two JOISTS. Then reinforce the mounting bracket on the wood in several places. That should make it solid (see my pic).

All in all install took about 4-5 hours.

As for the opener itself, I love it so far. The only noise really comes from the door itself. The motor is super quiet. The remotes and outdoor keypad all work well.

3.0 out of 5 starsIncluded remotes won't work with older Chamberlain openers...
Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2018
It works OK... I have a heavy wooden door (which is balanced properly) and the belt flops around quite a bit when the door is going up - I think it probably needs more tension, but that's pre-set, and apparently can't be altered. I have my doubts as to how long the belt will last. I ordered the belt drive because the garage is below a bedroom. The belt *is* quieter than my old chain drive opener, but not by much. All in all, I would've been better off with the (cheaper) chain drive unit. Also, the three button remotes included with this unit are not compatible with with older Chamberlain openers - so, they're useless for my other opener. Luckily the KLIK-1U remotes I already have are compatible with this and the older opener. Also, I haven't had any luck getting the Home Link in my wife's 2012 Honda to work with this unit; it looks like I'll have to buy a "Home Link Bridge" to make it work, which is pretty annoying... UPDATE: I was able to make this work with my wife's car using Homelink. The Homelink programming procedure for a rolling code unit is kind of tricky. Finally got it to work on the 3rd try. Also, I was able to increase the tension on the belt by tightening the trolley nut - there's no procedure for this given in the instructions. The belt now stays flat against the guide with a lot less play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely quiet, smooth opener!

The instructions were good with explaining the steps and diagrams showed correct positioning well, take your time and READ them if this is your first time installing an opener. The opener itself is super quiet and so smooth! We live in a ranch house and I could hear the opener from my bedroom all the time (old opener) when my husband would let the dogs out or something; now I don't hear a thing unless I'm in the garage! This opener has been up for about a week and we've had zero issues. I did miss a step when installing and had to backtrack a little bit, but that's user error and nothing on the unit. We will not likely use the MyQ upgrade as our wi-fi is weak and I'm not worried about controlling my door from afar, but I love that it's an option.

As stated, installation wasn't bad. I'm a women who likes to try and learn/do things herself & I was able to accomplish this installation, with only a few minor hiccups, in 4 hours and that includes taking down the old, putting together and installing the new, programming and screwing in the remote keypad, etc.

Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Set aside the afternoon for the installation even if you are handy.

Installation takes some time even if you are handy. If you are someone who struggles to put something pretty simple together just hire someone to do it. One problem i ran into was in step 4, number 6 (picture figure 3). It says to insert the trolley threaded shaft through the hole in the trolley. Problem with my unit was the hole in the trolley was about 1/32 of an inch too small. That may not seem like much but when you try to push the threaded shaft through the hole, you strip the threads on the shaft and then you cross thread the piece when you try to screw it on. I highly recommend you take a drill bit and send it through that hole just enough to have the shaft fit through smoothly. I think i used a 7/16 bit, can't remember. Otherwise, the rest of the installation was pretty straight forward and the unit works nicely. Very quiet. Took about 3-4 hours start to finish by myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super quiet operation, great product.

This is a great unit and super quiet. I have never installed a garage door opener before, so I was a little hesitant to try it myself. My garage door did not previously have an opener, so I was starting from ground zero.

The instructions were clear and provided all the information I needed. I did watch some videos online just to make sure I was doing everything correct (you can find them on Chamberlain's website). I wasn't in a rush, and it took me part of an afternoon to complete (this included making the mounting brackets for the motor, installing a mounting plate above the garage door and running the wires for the sensors and remote switch).
I also purchased the extension for an 8' door (even though my door is only 7.5'), it works great as well. I also like that this unit secures (locks) the door when closed, a person can't pull up on the door and open it.

I would recommend this product to others.

I replace my old garage opener with this beauty. There is a big difference in noise. This one in much quieter. Installation not difficult at all for an average guy ,there are a lot of helpful videos. I added MY Qsmart to it. it's way more convenient to control your garage opener with your phone. I posted a video, hope it's helpful.

About the negative reviews, there should not be any, in my opinion. Most of the people complaint is that they cannot connect the garage opener to their cars, really!? your probably gonna change your car before even thinking on replacing this garage opener. Besides you have two remotes, a wall control and keypad to open and close your garage.

And you can add "MyQSmart", as I did, to use your phone to open and close it.

I highly recommend this product..

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet and reliable

Quiet and reliable. Easy to install, however, it doesn't work with our older model vehicles that have door opener buttons in the vehicle. Be sure to check and see if it is compatible with your car's system. We use the buttons that were provided with the opener and they work great. Our old openers would open on there own at any time of day or night. Hopefully these won't. The old openers wouldn't work till we were on the apron of the garage, these work clear down the lane. We really like them. Did I say they were quiet? Absolutely, I'll say it again - they are really quiet. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy for those guys that say that they installed it ...

So far all is well...Just finished my installation last night. I'm happy for those guys that say that they installed it in 3-4 hours, including removal of their old one. I replaced a Genie that had lasted over 20 years. It was a screw drive that I had to replace the carriage on the screw assembly about every 5 years. I was going to go with another Genie, then read reviews and supposedly Genie sold out to an overseas company, quality had dropped and there was more negative reviews than positive. I didn't research Chamberlain much, but their reviews were highly favorable. All total it probably took me a good 10 hours with a couple of hours help from my step-son. But I am 65 years young and on the picky side. It is definitely more quiet than the old Genie...the door itself makes all the noise. I have a smaller, wood, double door, rather heavy. The Genie 1/2hp lasted well, hope the Chamberlain does...it's a 1/2hp also...the key being spring adjustment on the door, in my opinion.

this works well and is much quieter than the antique it replaced. I paid about $260 to have it installed. Not cheap, but well worth it. This is a very complex installation. The installer was very professional and competent and it still took about 2 hours. We take these kind of items for granted because they're so common, but there's a lot of electrical trickery:) that goes into them. It's been 2 or 3 months and all's well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super quiet and great lighting.

Quiet, Powerful and pretty easy to install. I replaced an old Overhead Garage Door chain drive that was really loud and did not have any of the sensors to keep the garage door from closing on someone/something. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could the only cons that I have is the fact that they lead you to believe that you can make it automatically close the door after it has been open for a set period of time. This IS possible but only if you have a different wall switch than the one they provide which costs an additional amount ($40-$70) I was looking forward to this ability as my daughter often forgets to close the garage door...
They should make that a little clearer in the description for the product.
