Hey, it's Tomb Raider, Laura's second incarnation. Very fun game. The 3 newest games are all wonderful. Great story, plenty of Side adventures, great graphics.

From what I played the game was good. The graphics and quality of the quick time events were pretty good too. I just didn't feel compelled to continue playing. The story felt a little jumbled.

I am solely a fan of the Tomb Raider "survivor" series only. So I shall only speak of this game in the context of its series. I do not understand why this game has received much negative attention, but all art is subjective and in this age of infinitely intellectually empty millennials and absent minded professional reviewers such is to be expected. Nonetheless I shall brake this down by category. The game operates very well for the most part, occasionally taxing the Xbox One X but there are always limitations to consoles. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, amazing, stunning, and just make the game so worth exploring every bit of it possible. I haven't found the annoying business of swimming so fun since Crysis. The story line is indeed unexpected. I do appreciate the interaction of the characters versus previous games, and the conclusion is of course to anyone's disliking or liking. However I think it does remain true to this series, a story of development of a single character into something anew through a series of impossible events. Although the trailers presented the game as being very action based, I found the game to have less action than the previous two titles with more emphasis on exploration. I would offer this criticism, that the actual apocalyptic events seems muted in terms of happening during gameplay versus cutscenes. I personally would have preferred more catastrophe to survive and more time in the eclipse. But as I said before, all art is subjective and to each their own. If you are a fan, I highly recommend this game. It's awesome!

Great Tomb Raider game but not as good as the first one in the trilogy.

This is a great Tomb Raider game and every bit as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, neither of them came close to the original Tomb Raider reboot in the trilogy. These will hold up well against anything else in this style though. If you liked Uncharted, the Prince of Persia reboot, or even games like beyond good and evil or Mirror's Edge you should definitely give this series a go. Especially the first one. I just wish Square hadn't made that foolish timed exclusive deal with Microsoft which definitely lead to poorer sales for the series overall. That was a really bad mistake on their part.

As an avid gamer, I don't get venture into games that I don't believe will be worth my time. And I assure you that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is surely worth yours! The gameplay is great and you even have the option to select higher resolution or higher frame rate (I chose frame rate and the resolution is still 4K HDR with no noticeable change). The dialogue is captivating, as is the scenery. The developers really did their homework on history, legends, myths, etc. and it shows. Trust me, you'll have a hard time walking away.

Upon the first two games, this third and final entry makes for a beautiful exploration of life and variety that Lara Croft does as a tomb raider and nobody can outmatch her style of exploration. The previous game focused too much on combat more than exploration, so this third game focuses on what makes the Tomb Raider the name it holds to heart. Some combat lovers might hate it, but open world exploratory lovers like the fanbase will love it.

Love me some classic single player fun. Great graphics and delightfully scary at points. Love exploring and searching for secrets and solving puzzles. Interesting to learn about ancient Mayan culture as well. Game play isn’t built for melee fighting, but it’s fun sneaking around and performing stealth kills.

Playing the 2 prior games before this and loving them, I assumed this would only be more of the same. TOTALLY WRONG!

STORY/GAME PLAY----
The story is incredibly lame and feels like a carbon copy of the prior games but done in a generic, less exciting way. The entire game had this feeling of "Haven't we done this before?". There was really nothing new in comparison to the prior games and the things they included from prior games didn't feel as good as they used to.

For example, in the prior games, you would often encounter enemies in a stealth situation where the battle area was carefully crafted to intuitively guide you through the take-downs in clever and fun ways. It was so intuitive that you didn't even know you were following their hints. It just felt like you were playing how you wanted and were an amazing assassin.

Shadow of The Tomb Raider is completely void of this feeling. They offer a multitude of options for how you can handle a stealth situation but none of them feel nearly as good as they used to. They often leave you feeling cheated as an enemy will spot you as a result of clunky controls or timing issues outside of the player's control.

CONTROLS/GLITCHES----
The prior games had tight controls that made Lara do what you needed her to do when you pushed the appropriate button. I felt in the prior games that if I made a mistake, it was my fault. Again, this is where Shadow of The Tomb Raider completely fails.

Extraordinarily often Lara would miss a jump, fall off a ledge or simply not execute a button press when it occurred. The result of this is dying repeatedly in the upwards of 6 to 7 times just to accomplish a simple climb. I can't stress how often this occurs throughout the entire game. You can clearly feel which areas of the game received the extra attention from the developers and the areas that the interns most likely helped with.

I often struggled to continue playing the game I got so frustrated with the control issues and glitches. The prior games were fun, this felt like a chore.

Please keep in mind I'm playing this in December of 2018. The game has been out for nearly 6 months at this point and none of this is fixed.

OVERALL----
I would NOT recommend buying this game!

In terms of this being a trilogy, I truly believe you could skip this game and go to the next and you would miss nothing. Lara has zero notable progression and the story is so bland that anyway they could reference it in a new game would be inconsequential.

The frustration, anger and stress I received from playing this game is hardly worth the price tag I payed. I love the two prior games and will keep them forever, but this one does not deserve to be in my house.
