Great home and portable speaker for Apple Music

This is a warm and rich speaker with much better dynamics than any bluetooth speaker I have previously used. If you are an Apple Music subscriber, this is a great speaker for you. It uses Wifi so you get the benefits of lossless audio files via airplay (it's airplay 1 not 2, but I live in a NYC apartment so am not interested in multi room playback). I love the pre-set buttons too that make accessing internet radio stations so simple. The Audio Pro app is mediocre, but if you are using Apple Music, you only need to use the app for set up purposes. Then play music through the Apple Music app. I have not tried the Bluetooth yet, but it is a really simple set up as well. The big selling point here is that it is a great sounding WiFi airplay speaker that is portable. And has Bluetooth as well! Also, it has a really cool design and heft. High praise for Audio Pro.

Terrible = non existent support - AirPlay issues

STAY AWAY

I liked the device when I got it and it was working more or less okay. After 2 months, AirPlay stopped working properly, when switching YouTube to play speaker over airplay, screen would go black and/or its sound would disappear, it would require restart of the app.

So I escalated to Audio Pro support via ticketing system - they don't have a number to call. Extremely long and frustrating response time, general answers and blame game on google/youtube. Opened another ticket, just to get the same useless support. And I get it, some times it may be not the device itself but its software / firmware. Abandoning customers with useless excuses is NOT THE WAY TO HANDLE THE ISSUE. YOU HAVE TO reach out to google or whatever vendor and work YOUR DEVICE'S FIRMWARE COMPATIBILITY ISSUES AND FIX THE AIRPLAY. Asked to RMA/replace the unit, support stopped responding all together. What am I supposed to do now? What kind of 2 year manufacturer warranty is this?

I’ll admit to being a bit of an audiophile snob. Yet I’m also price-conscious. I ordered this for my wife for Christmas, based on lots or research. Anxious to hear how it sounds and wanting to do a slow burn-in at the same time, I opened this (yada-yada-yada)... and have been playing lots of different music AND I am very-very impressed with it given the price.

It’s not a match for my French-made Focal bookshelf speakers by any stretch, but the tonal quality of this Audio Pro C3 IS neutral, transparent and vibrant.

Many if not most lower-priced wireless speakers are either bass-heavy, warm or muffled in tone, or simply are incapable of letting through musical nuances. The Audio Pro C3 does NOT fall into that description.

My wife wants a small wireless/Bluetooth speaker that is easy to carry around. I want high-quality construction, sound and tonality, and that would be a pleasure to listen to. My wife will be ecstatic on Christmas morning!

Really good, but not as powerful as I had hoped

I wanted a Bluetooth speaker that would be relatively compact, decent quality, and would fill my family room with great sound. I tested a lot of speakers in this sub-$200 price range, ultimately narrowing it down to this Audio Pro Addon C3 and the Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 4. I had them side by side on my book shelf for a couple of days switching back and forth between the two. They both had a really good, full, sound quality, and I really liked the size and aesthetics of the Audio Pro, but in the end the Audio Pro didn’t quite have the volume and fullness to really fill the room like the HK did, so I returned it and went with the HK (which was also a lot cheaper). The Audio Pro is definitely great quality, and In a different, smaller room it might have been just fine.

Astonishingly good sound for a portable speaker

Even though I strongly dislike the term, I am, what most people would call, an audiophile. I care about sound quality much more than a lot of people. I've invested significant time, research and money into my home audio system, and I'd rather listen to no music at all than music that sounds bad. That being said, I was looking for a portable speaker to bring with me to work that sounded decent enough that I could truly enjoy what I was listening to. I researched and narrowed it down to a few models but, ultimately, chose the C3 based on it being an award winner at What Hi-Fi. I think I made the right choice.

First, the design. Some people love it and some hate it. I got the C3 in gray with the brass highlights and I think it looks classy and sophisticated. I've heard complaints that it looks like a DIY speaker but I don't find that at all.

However, looks are secondary to how it sounds. So, how does it sound? In a word, fantastic. Whereas most portable speakers tend towards a warm sound signature with boosted lows, the C3 is very neutral, even tending towards analytical. It's very much like a studio monitor in that regard. This is not a speaker that colors the sound; it's aim is to reproduce the sound as faithfully as possible. As such, I would not consider this speaker to be a "party" speaker. It's sound signature is much more refined than that. Don't get me wrong, it does sound quite lively with rock, blues and metal but it doesn't do so in a showy, boomy way that a lot of portable speakers do. You'd be inclined to think that those who are accustomed to an overly warm sound would find the C3 to be too restrained but I've had several coworkers who are not audio people tell me that they've never heard a small speaker that sounded so good. Lows are surprisingly present, tight and focused, mids are natural and engaging, and highs are smooth with no trace of sibilance and very little roll off. Overall, it's a very clear, complex and sophisticated sound for such a small speaker. Jazz and jazz vocals really show off the beauty of this speaker.

Being a neutral speaker, the quality of your music is important. Garbage in and garbage out, as they say. If your music is badly recorded, badly mastered or highly compressed, all of those flaws will be reproduced by this speaker. I use this almost exclusively with a Hiby DAP, connected directly via aux cable and my music is, at a minimum, 16bit flac, but also a lot of 24/96 and 24/192 flac up to DSD 128.

Many people complain about the app and, honestly, it isn't great. It's clunky and it took several attempts before it found my speaker and, once it did, sometimes it finds my speaker and sometimes it doesn't. However, I never use the app so it's not a concern for me. If you're someone that will be using the app a lot, well, it's not the greatest experience. I use bluetooth very occasionally to stream podcasts from my phone and I've never had a problem but also my phone has always been laying right next to the speaker when using bluetooth. I can't speak to range and I also can't speak to wifi since I've never used it.

I think it is portable enough but it is large-ish and heavy-ish. I carry it in a regular backpack and it takes up about half the space. So, yes, it's portable but you're not gonna be strapping this thing to your bike handlebars or throwing it in a bag and forgetting it's there.

The unit has great aesthetics - it looks so much cooler on my shelf than an equivalent Sonos. However the wifi mode doesn't work very well. It cuts out all the time even when it's very close to the router. If it loses connection it just stops and you have to open the app to restart the music. After a week it stopped working when not plugged in so I returned it.

Bought based on looks, size, and reviewed sound quality. So far, I haven't used the WiFi, just bluetooth. I have the feeling that by streaming music via bluetooth, I'm not getting the most that this speaker can offer; and, I'm mega-impressed with the sound quality. Bass is pretty powerful for a unit this size, and the volume it can reach before it gets noticeably distorted is impressive. The battery lasted all afternoon at moderate volume outside on my patio. Looks good too. For a portable speaker, it might be nice to have a 12V (car) input rather than just mains; other than that and the price, there isn't any anything that I would want to change for a kitchen/patio/picnic all-in-one.
