2.0 out of 5 starsUnnecessary Padding

First some housekeeping: Even though you can play by yourself, you need an internet connection and online subscription on consoles (PS+, Xbox Live, Nintendo Online) in order to play.
Now onto the review:
This is an expansion to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
Game has a lot of unnecessary padding and grinding to artificially extend the length of the game.
Game that could have lasted around 3 hours is extended to around 10-15 with tons of filler and repetition. Probably want you to stick around along enough so you want to pay for cosmetics through micro-transactions.
When you think of Wolfenstein you think of fast faced action where you kill nazis left-and-right. Instead in this game, if you are underleveled, you can head shot an enemy with a full clip of bullets and it only does 15% damage. Bad thing is, depending on what difficulty setting you set, ammo may be scarce.
Checkpoints are horrible. Actually there are no checkpoints (exception final boss), if you lose all your lives you start all the way from the beginning of the mission, where you can lose up to 30mins of progress. Lucky you don't lose experience points/in-game currency, but do you lose any ammo you gained
When you do get to that level and upgrade your weapons to optimal, it can be fun. But the time it takes to get there is very time consuming and feels like a chore.
Story/plot: You play one of two over powered teens in an epic adventure (if you don't count the grinding) to find their father B.J. Blazkowicz. Banter between characters are good during story segments/cutscenes, but can be repetitive during combat
This is a co-op game for the most part. You are always paired with an AI, a friends or random person online. You can buff each other (health or armor) when in close proximity via thumbs up or devil ear hand gester. This ability is on a cooldown.
Able to revive each other at anytime, but if you bleed out you lose a life. You each share up to 3 lives. You can gain a life or 1up via heart boxes you find the levels.
There are some repetitive side mission that helps you gain currency and exp. Story mission for these is very minimal. Tell you to get object, plant bomb or save someone. When complete they just thank you, no story beats in-between.
As you gain level, you upgrade your base stats (1.5% to damage each time) and get points for your Perks
Coins obtained through mission can be spent on upgrading weapons and cosmetics. Currency for cosmetics and weapons are different because you can spend real world money on cosmetic currency
Online is pretty stable. There are no quick emotes/gesters, and if you or the other person doesn't have a mic then it's hard to communicate.
Game has a buddy pass system (which you can purchase for $10). Similar to games that have download play on 3DS or Nintendo Switch. All the other person need to do is download the trail version and party with the person who bought the full game. The person who tags along do not get PSN trophy support
Overall, this game could have been fun if it didn't disrespect your time. I would go for quality over quantity any day.
