My first Apple Watch and mostly positive about the way it works and the design.
However after just a couple of weeks I grazed an interior wall -- just lightly -- and put a scuff in the display. Couldn't find any tips on the internet about removing the flaw so I sold the watch on eBay and bought the steel model (which supposedly has a harder, more durable display.
As far as the watch, itself, goes I like it a lot. The Activity app is motivating (gotta close my Rings every day) and the other features seem all to work as advertised. It's a non-essential gizmo for me, but I like gizmos.
FWIW the "Milan Loop" steel band is very nice looking but I prefer the silicon sports band for exercise and daily wear. Easy to change so not really an issue.

This is my first Apple Watch and I could not believe how good it is. I got the Cellular/GPS version. The cellular phone works great with or without the phone. The sound is clear and crisp. It is also very easy to answer the phone by just tapping on the watch and not having to pull the iphone out. It's health functions are also great such as heart rate, atrial fib. exercise monitor. The exercise monitor know's you are walking, biking or doing the elliptical trainer and asks you if you want to record the session. The maps on the watch is also very good and other downloadable apps make this a great companion to the watch and very useful to the wearer. I also like the many faces and complications you can have for your convenience. Until you try it, you wont know what you are missing!

Awesome watch; AT&T’s data plan setup super glitchy

Got this for my dad to replace his old Apple Watch series 1. I have the series 4 without cellular. My dad sometimes forgets his phone when he goes out, so I wanted to get him the cellular version so he can still communicate without his phone.

He was pretty skeptical initially. He loved his old series 1, and hates spending extra money. And setting up the watch on a data plan with AT&T is a *huge* hassle. They have some sort of system glitch that requires resetting the watch a gazillion times. Took a few hours of being on the phone with support to make the data connection actually work.

But once you get through that process, the cell function is really nice to have. My dad’s found the function convenient, and sometimes leaves his phone home on purpose. Nice for quick trips to the store or gym. He also loves the bigger display on the 4 compared to the older models. The enhanced heart rate monitoring, ECG function and fall detection are also nice to have. I believe the last 2 are new to series 4. The watch also seems to run faster and be more responsive to taps. He likes the 4 enough to get over how much I spent on it, which is saying a lot.

Also, I can’t overstate the importance of buying Apple Care. My dad shattered the watch screen against a car door a couple weeks after he got it. Thankfully I got Apple Care so it was covered. Otherwise woulda been $500+ down the drain.

AT&T customers, be forewarned—the data plan setup on the watch is super glitchy (on AT&T’s side), and may require a few frustrating hours spent with tech support to get it up and running. I had to do this process twice (once on the original watch, and again on the replacement), and it’s demoralizingly terrible. Forget about trying to restore from backup. Just stock up on snacks and make sure your devices are fully charged so you can get through the hours on the phone with AT&T to get the data plan to work.

My second Apple Watch. My first one was the very first generation which they now sometimes call series 0. It was very good but the new Series 4 is fantastic. The additional screen real estate is great. The improved heart rate monitoring is great. Having cellular connectivity and GPS is great. It works like a charm. My only grief is I wish it had a bit longer battery life. It sometimes runs down a bit too soon for me. But overall, very good. I expect to be a lifelong Apple Watch user.

This DOES work with Verizon - but not always out of the box...

I bought the watch fully expecting to simply add it to my Verizon account through the set up in the Watch app. That's how it's supposed to work but when I tried, I got the message from Verizon that my watch is not compatible with Verizon (like several other reviewers have posted here). I knew that was wrong since these watches are not network dependent so I called Verizon. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with 5 different reps only to be told by the last one that my watch was, in fact, not compatible and that I should return it and buy one from Verizon. I still didn't believe them and decided to try one more time with my local Verizon store. The guys there were fantastic (Boylston St in Boston). They filed a trouble ticket with Verizon and 48 hours later my watch was recognized by the Verizon network and I could set it up. I'm sure all Verizon had to do was to whitelist the IMEI in their database and I can't understand why the Verizon CSR's on the phone couldn't figure that out. Seems the store guys have better access to tech support from the mother-ship.

Don't be concerned about buying the cellular Apple Watch here, through Amazon. If you get one and it isn't recognized by the network, don't bother calling Verizon, just go to your local Verizon Store and they can get it working.

I bought this mainly so I can track my meetings at work, store runs, etc. without having to lug my iPhone xr around all the time. I was pleasantly surprised on the quality of calls. I can literally walk around the house with my arms at my side and call quality on both ends is awesome. I'm also using the exercise feature, tracking steps in a day and the occasional reminder to standduring the day (which you can turn off). Quality materials, strong and durable glass can take some abuse without scratching/breaking. This is my first apple watch and I'm impressed. Highly recommend. Also worth noting, I bought the milanese magnetic loop/watch band based on reviews of the out of box band and glad I did ($130 at Walmart).

I think the Apple Watch is best smart watch money can buy. I've used fitbits, android wear, you name it and this is tops them all. However Apple has some serious QA issues with regards to the screen's lighting. Mine has a visable black line running down the middle that's less lit than the rest of the screen and some blotchiness. Very disappointing for a $500+ watch. Totally not the norm, but lots of people are having similar issues with grey or black backgrounds. Depending on the severity it's visable in low or bright lights. In my case, it's pretty noticeable in all lighting. The pic in this review was taken in a bright room very annoying to see indeed.

Upgrading to 5 stars. My replacement watch is much better.

What can I say that hasn't already been said... this apple watch is AMAZING! I have not worn a watch for several years, and now I can't imagine not having this on my wrist. I opted for the GPS + Cellular and am not disappointed I did. I love not having to be tethered to my phone all the time. When I go on hikes, long bike rides, walks on the beach, etc I can still get calls, check messages and mail, as well as a ton of other things. I love wearing it while I'm at the gym. Keeps track of my workouts, my heart rate, and streams my Apple Music all without having to have my phone with me... LOVE IT!!

My only complaint is I wish the watch face was sapphire glass. You would think paying over $500 Apple could at least include that. I couldn't justify the extra few hundred dollars for the one with the sapphire and my watch face did get a scratch on it 2 days after I got it. So I would HIGHLY recommend getting a bumper guard and screen protector at the same time you purchase this watch :)

I personally didn’t wear a watch since 2001 on a regular basis. I decided to add a wearable to go with my iPhone X. I am fully in the Apple ecosystem with the iPhone, two iPads, and a Mac Mini with a Thunderbolt monitor. Number one, the amount of third party accessories for these watches is staggering, and much more comprehensive than other smart watches. Second is it flawlessly integrates into the iPhone experience. I have used Apple Pay from the watch quite a bit. It’s also nice to get text messages on the phone. Replying to them is not as easy, but there are some preset phrases. Also nice, you can control the camera on your iPhone with the watch for that shot you need to be in that’s not a selfie. One app that has gone away from the watch is Pokémon Go, which has cut down on my walking score in the game. Overall. I’d buy one again.
