I bought an Aqara lock initially because it was cheaper and had many more features. It kept crashing and freezing up, so that I had to keep the physical key with me all the time, or I’d be locked out of my house. I returned it and got this Schlage instead. The Schlage is more expensive, but it just works. Every. Single. Time. Installed it in the door in under 5 minutes and set it up in the Schlage app and HomeKit in under 5 minutes. It’s easy to use and add codes for people even if they don’t have an iPhone or smart device. And it looks much more solid and stylish than the Aqara. 6 out 5 stars.

This lock/product is really good, No issue. My review is not about lock quality, but service from Schlage.

Surprisingly I am buying at Amazon directly from manufacturer - 'Schlage' as a new product and one screw and one key were missing. It has only one key. I have same lock from Schlage for other door has two keys.

Looks like box was like returned from somebody and Schlage sent me again, because I remember when same lock I had bought from other place, all items were very well newly packed.

Before writing review here, I also wrote directly to Schlage(as per amazon provided support link) 2-3 week back to send me replacement and discount or free to cover handyman cost, but didn't get any reply from Schlage. Finally I am returning this item and ordering another one.

Here return item is not a problem, problem is I will have to pay more to handyman to install it again. Handyman would charge more to visit two times. It would also waste my so much time to co-ordinate and arrange installation again. Handyman not available easily.

Had the zigbee version prior to this. Antique Bronze finish looked poorly after about 6 years, (SC close to the coast). The locks are reliable and work well. Installation is simple (I'm handy as heck), and the app is nice. Intgrates well with Apple and my RTI control system.

Only beef is that it is dark. You will need to fumble around with it at night so you can see the numbers. One button press and it will wake up. Might not seem like a big deal, but if you happen to hit a number, the next button pressed will be in vain because it doesn't require "Schlage" or "Home" press prior to entering the code. Battery life might be suspect as it has been isntalled for about 3 weeks, and battery life is at 80%. I do have automatic lock after 5 minutes on though...
Good deal, I am happy.

This is the best smartlock on the market. I have tested them all in stores like Lowes, HomeDepot, etc. I own several and have spent hours researching them. If you are looking for the Apple Home Key - this lock is for you. It works flawlessly and is a breeze to setup. Thank you Schlage. This is certainly worth the high price.

It looks decent. Installation steps are straight forward. And it works perfect. My only problem is that it only provide one key. So I have to go to Home Deport to duplicate another key for my wife. I know we usually use passcode to enter, but what if the battery went off?

So far, I like the lock a lot. It's pretty quiet, and the motor seems more than strong enough. I guess time will tell on battery life. I got it because online reviews said it worked seamlessly in HomeKit, and so far, I have to agree.

Installation and setup was simple. The supplied paper instructions were fine, but the online, animated installation help is fantastic. I would strongly recommend people step though that guide, even if they are comfortable with being handy around the house. There is nothing tricky about the install, but the online help was so good, watch it anyway.

My only complaint so far is the near field tap feature toggles the lock, as opposed to being unlock-only. I have, twice now in a week, accidentally "locked" the door while it was still opened when my left hand (Apple watch on that wrist) got too close. Maybe there is a way to change the behaviour to Tap-to-open-only in the software, but I haven't found it.

It's too much money for what you are getting, and tap-toggle is a bit annoying, hence the 4 stars. If this had been $199, I would heartily give it 5 stars.

The best lock for Apple HomeKit

I really wanted the Yale Assure lock because it has the keyless option, but I decided to try one of these Schlage Encode Plus locks because of the Apple HomeKeys functionality. I tried them both out for a few weeks and ended up sending the Yale lock back because this Schlage was so much better! The way this lock works by just moving your watch or phone near it is SO convenient and it works EVERY TIME without any fiddling around with apps or anything. When I use the HomeKit app or Siri to lock or unlock the door, the Schlage responds right away, whereas the Yale would take 3 times as long or longer to respond. Also, even though the Yale was in a MUCH better wifi area, it would stop responding to HomeKit and show as “unavailable” on a regular basis. Often times it would tell me that the lock was not responding when I ran my bedtime automations, so I would have to get up and go downstairs to check on it. The Schlage NEVER has had any problems like that at all. Also, the geo-fencing option for the Yale was annoying because whenever I came home in a car, it would unlock the door, even though I wasn’t using that door. Then who knows how long it would remain unlocked. I found the door with the Yale lock left unlocked multiple times in the few weeks I tried it, but the Schlage never gave me that problem. Also because I have door sensors in HomeKit on the doors, when I installed the Schlage locks, it suggested an automation to lock the door when the door closes, and it works so perfectly! The Yale lock came with its own door sensor, but it would never work. I’m so happy with the Schlage Encode Plus. As a HomeKit user, it is the best accessory I have ever found.

Works as expected and has good quality. Only thing I would improve is make the numbers more visible - you have to press one to make them visible and it counts that first one as an entry. Otherwise works great with Apple Watch and iPhone to just put them near the lock and it unlocks. Sharing with family for the same features is simple. Overall, Nice!

Don't Worry About Left/Right Hand Setup

Installation and setup was the easiest experience I've ever had with "smart" devices. However - I have a "right hand" door, and when I held the interior handle up to the lock it appeared it would only work on a "left hand" door, i.e. the handle could only rotate counterclockwise when it needed to rotate clockwise (see photo). I searched in vain to see if I ordered the wrong part, or how to change the internal gearing. I found NO information about it. Finally, even though it made no mechanical sense to me, I mounted it on the door. As I did so, something moved in the gearing (even though no batteries were installed and there was no visible energy source) and the handle was free to move clockwise. It magically corrected itself.
The Apple Home app gives you a battery level indication, but you need to touch the Settings button to see it. I cannot comment on battery life. The lock has been on line for one day and the battery level shows 99%.
