with the Hoya lens filters, either made in Japan or Philippines.
I searched for the UV(O) filter (which has the UV in the glass itself vs. the UV(C) which has the UV in coatings on the glass) that commands a high price these days, but decided to try out this one before splurging. After using this much, much less expensive filter for over a month now (Nikon D5200), I see no reason to upgrade - if there's any appreciable difference between the (O) and the (C) filters, my eye wouldn't be able to see it.

Based on my personal experience and the review I mentioned, I bought this filter and was not disappointed. It did not cause any vignetting and the images are sharp and though it is now said that a UV filter is not really required for digital cameras it just feels safe and not much of an investment to just have it on for a peace of mind that the lens will be generally protected from minor nicks and scratches. Though this can be easily achieved by just having the lens hood on at all times.
Well all that said and done, I'm going to have this on my lens forever!

Hoya UV filters, especially the multi-coated and super-multicoated ones, are excellent. Their adverse effect is minimal (and transmissive properties are among the best as well). And they are often not obscenely priced. I have B+W filters that are pretty good, but they come with a price tag while offering similar qualities.
And the slim design of the Hoya filter also got my attention as it was going to be used on the 18-55mm kit lens of my Sony NEX especially considering the wide angle. I have an older version as well used on an older lens, and that is slightly thicker.
"Hoya Multi-coated", among the best in UV protection (but then, not the key for digital sensors), among the best in transmissive factor (over 95% of the light gets thru), and protects the lens' front element from the elements. All for a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Normally installing filters is easy but for some reason it was tough to line up the filter threads. Not sure if that is a filter, lens or owner/operator problem...
Build appears good and the slim frame makes it noticeably lighter than my standard Hoya HMC filters. It appears to be optically true and well coated for flare suppression. Unlike some reviewers, I didn't find spots or coating defects. However, Hoya coatings more difficult to clean than B&W filters but I knew about that from past experiences.
Although the front filter threads are smaller than normal sized filter frames, my 77mm Canon lens cap fits fine on this filter. Nevertheless, the main reason I also use a filter is to protect my front element and avoid using a lens cap.
I was surprised the HMC series aren't made in Japan anymore. I own a lot of Hoya filters and this is the first offshore model I've seen (Philippines). However, for a multi-coated slim filter this seems to be a quality product so I'm a happy camper.

adaptador original ax100, se le puede poner la tapa del lente. Recomiendan los filtros de marca fuji o B+W, que son 4 veces más caros, y este filtro Hoya cumple muy bien. Recomendable.
