Customers like the performance of the docking station. They mention that it works flawlessly, the USB C charging cable works perfectly, and the dock works just as expected. The video signal works, and it starts working in less than 5 seconds. The power delivery works fine, and an extended desktop across all three screens works perfectly.

Customers like the quality of the docking station. For example, they mention it's an excellent quality peripheral, well-constructed, and reliable. Some say that the dock itself is OK, but the thunderbolt 3 cable they supply is useless.

Customers are mixed about the ports of the docking station. Some mention that it has a ton of ports and has enough outlets for all their needs, while others say that there are a few issues with the ports. For example, the ethernet port stopped working at some Mac OS update, and without it, the USB data ports will not work at all, including power. Some customers also mention that after about 12 months of use, several of the ports began to fail, and the analog headphone jack on that dock stopped working.
"...This dock raises the bar, with its sleek design, perfect mix of ports, especially the generous number of USB 3 ports that are all fully functional..." Read more

Customers have negative opinions about the cable length of the dock. They mention that the Thunderbolt cable included is so short that it makes positioning the dock difficult. Some customers also mention that it feels lose and is useless.

USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are two very different specifications. USB-C tops out at 10Gbps, while Thunderbolt 3 can go up to 40Gbps. A USB-C dock *will* work on a MacBook with Thunderbolt 3 ports, but the experience will be inconsistent and problematic. If you try to drive a 4K display from a USB-C dock, the display will occasionally go black, because USB-C cables are unable to sustain the data rates required for a 4K @ 30Hz display. You can mitigate this by replacing the USB-C cable with a Thunderbolt 3 cable, which has denser windings and can transfer data at the full 10Gbps. But then there are problems with device detection and the slow speed that MacBook seems to discover devices connected to the dock, and this tendency to not detect devices at all unless you reboot, which was the case with the LAN adapter on my dock.
All of these problems disappeared when I replaced my USB-C dock with a genuine, Thunderbolt 3 dock. Cable Matters has earned my trust over the past year, as I have seen their products earn consistently excellent reviews on Amazon, and my firsthand experience with their cables, dongles and other PC accessories has been trouble-free. This dock raises the bar, with its sleek design, perfect mix of ports, especially the generous number of USB 3 ports that are all fully functional (i.e. not just for charging), and its reliable operation from the very start. The dock runs cool; the top is only a few degrees above room temperature. The power adapter is a little warmer than that but by only 5-10 degrees.
As others has shared, the only shortcoming of this product is the short Thunderbolt 3 cable that comes with it, and I have to agree--Cable Matters should have bundled this with a 3-foot cable. But that's a problem that can be easily rectified, and after struggling with a USB-C dock for the past year I am so relieved that I no longer have to worry whether the dock is going to work from one day to the next; I just plug in and it works, which is what plug-and-play is *supposed* to do.
I have a "MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)". I know the Thunderbolt 3 (TBT3) is supposed to be able to driver two displays from a single port on the MacBook, but there is extremely limited support among the docks that are out there. Many of them have two display connections, but don't properly support TBT3 and thus aren't able to drive both displays simultaneously (for the MacBook anyways). This one does it without issue.
Aside from that, the build quality is pretty good, there are a ton of ports, I've not had any issues with them heretofore (will update this review if I see anything). Gigabit ethernet works without issue, USB-3.0 works without issue, it charges my MacBook at 60W without issue, HDMI 2.0 drives my 4k monitor at 60Hz without issue and I am using a TBT3 to DP cable to drive my other display (also 4k, 60Hz). So far so good.
Price is high but lower than most comparable models.
Only complaint is that the TBT3 cable they include to connect your computer to the dock is pretty short. Would be nice if they included a longer one.

After waiting three weeks for it to arrive, I opened the box to see a product with significant damage on the outside, and missing documentation (the empty bag). Clearly this was a used product, and the contents weren't checked before sending out to another customer.
I've checked a couple of the USB ports, the HDMI port, and the SD card reader, and they seem to be OK so far. I get sound and microphone from the headphone port, but the volume controls on the headphones don't work (they work fine when plugged directly into the laptop). While the provided thunderbolt cable is as long as described (~18"), this is far too short to be of much use, so add another $30 to the cost for a longer cable.
While this product has the right combination of ports, and most of the ones I've tried seem functional (except for the volume control on the headphones), had I seen it in store in a store I would not have purchased this particular unit. Selling a refurbished unit as brand-new for full price is not OK.

All works with no issue, no setup and over a single cable to my MacBook Pro 2017.
It does feel a bit cheap, but it works and I don't intend to move it around (at all), so it works for me no problem. I would've liked paying a little less than this for a dock... but eh.
