UPDATE after two weeks:
I finally got to take these for a run. There were connectivity issues until I switched the cord/receiver to the front of my body and then things were fine. I've also used them on a vertical climber (cord in front) and didn't experience any issues. I'm not sure if the connectivity issues are related to the headphones or my fitbit Versa but it was easily solved. I recently used them while shoveling snow for 2 hours and they worked great under winter gear. I suspect that sometimes when there are minor "hiccups" it is because my fitbit is registering or calculating something. NEW info: for some reason the controls on the headset have to be paired a specific way. On board controls are sometimes limited to volume and I have to use the Versa screen to reverse, FF, or pause. Not sure why, but for me it isn't a particularly big issue. IMPORTANT: because these are paired with an audio device it's difficult to determine which end is responsible for connectivity hiccups. I suspect it's a little from column A and a little from column B.
VERDICT: They're still great. I get at very least 2-3 hours of play time and I love the Flyer battery time remaining "countdown". I found that these were very generous estimates and I got a lot more time that the Flyers told me I had. I STRONGLY SUSPECT that the Flyers are grossly underestimating the time warnings (sort of like the fuel light on a Honda). I've gotten the 15 minute time warning and had them keep going for another 30-45 minutes when I turned them off myself as they have yet to shut off during use. As a matter of fact, I got the 15 minute warning awhile ago and I've been wearing them for about 45 minutes since then and they're still going as I type. Flyers are still very comfy and stay in well.
My 4 stars will remain. I'm very happy with these headphones, the sound quality is excellent and I'm happy with 3-4 hours of play time. I'm pretty easygoing in terms of blutooth stuff because remember wires? They suck. So I can forgive a little hiccup here and there and using my watch to change songs. If there were a 4.5 star option these would get it from me.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
First I will address issues I read in reviews prior to purchasing these.
I did shop around, and NO other recognized brand bluetooth earbuds had higher reviews/stars.
-Someone complained that the reception was poor, especially when running, even when their smart watch was worn on the right side of the body. I took these for a brisk 4 mile walk (I cannot run due to surgery). I wore a big winter coat and the receiver portion of the headphones was inside my coat. Smartphone on left side of body and also under coat. Sound quality was excellent. There were occasional "skips" in the music (repetitions, not like skipping ahead). This seemed to happen most noticeably when I was near cars/houses/people. I suspect that even thought it wasn't scanning for blutooth items, the fact that there were a large number of other blutooth connections around might have factored in. It may also have been related to alert functions on the watch. In any case, it was noticeable, but not irritating and not a consistent/constant issue. In the end, it didn't bother me very much. Took 1/2 a star for this.
-Someone complained about fit (comfort) and lowered their rating because they had very small ears. This isn't something I feel stars can be reduced for as everyone's body is different. I can't give a t-shirt a bad review because it's too big or too small, same for anything else.
-Battery life is not nearly as stated but I have found this to be true for almost every wireless device I own that isn't my phone. This is why I took 1/2 of a star. I only charged them once so far and I've noticed that sometimes a device needs to be charged more than once to get longer life. As is I think they will go for 2-3 hours.
-Setup was easy, it only took a few moments and they paired to my phone and fitbit Versa without issue.
-They are very comfortable, which I found surprising. I have small inner ears and generally have a hard time finding buds that fit comfortably and stay in. I used them as they were when they came out of the box and they fit very well.
-Sound quality is very good. My other sport headphones sound like garbage compared to these.
-Controls are easy to use. The battery on/off button is conveniently not located near the other controls. When you turn the headphones on a voice tells you they're on and what the battery level is. It does the same when you turn them off. I really like this feature as I had another device that I frequently thought was off but wasn't, resulting in constantly dead device.
Overall I'm very happy. I've been struggling with MP3 players and headphones for years. I need water resistant headphones and have always sacrificed sound in exchange for durability. Not with these (so far). I have always had issues with comfort and sound quality, not with these. Finally, controls are usually weird and non-intuitive but these are great (to me).
This is just my initial review. When I'm back to running and make a mess of these with sweat and rain I'll post a follow up. I chose four stars because they're not perfect, but they're close. If they hold up well or turn out to be crap I'll change that accordingly.
First Update: Went from 3 stars to 2 stars. The right speaker quit working after about 8 months. I see from other reviews that I'm not the only one this is happening to. I'm also still having issues keeping them in my ears when I run. My wife and I have had 5 different trackers/watches and have been satisfied overall as Fitbit has made improvements over time. These are overpriced for what you get.
Original Review: The sound is great and the battery life is excellent. The downside of these is that they don't always stay in my ears when I run. Sometimes they will stay in my left ear better than my right and the next run will be different.
Eventually, the rubber on the power button wore away, probably from me using it every single day. Recently, they stopped turning on and I contacted Fitbit with the issue. Customer service was prompt and helpful, and after a few troubleshooting tries they offered me a full refund including sales tax. I'm disappointed I didn't get more use out of my flyers, but I did use them constantly every single day and really appreciate Fitbit's kind customer service.
