Now that the BLB is down to low/normal levels, I'm very happy with this monitor. It checks all the boxes I wanted checked: 4k, HDR, 120Hz, G-Sync compatible. Colors are rich and vibrant. The brightness goes way brighter than I need it to. Contrast is great, especially in HDR mode. (I've heard that HDR400 monitors aren't as good at this as higher spec'd HDR monitors such as HDR600 or HDR1000, but this looks great to me.)
The only niggling concern I have left is probably a windows issue or graphics card driver issue, and that is that the colors look washed out when the computer wakes up from sleep. However, it's not really much of a concern, since I can get the colors to look right again by toggling HDR off and on again in the Windows control panel.
IPS - Check
120-hz - Check
G-Sync - Check
You would be surprised how difficult it is to check those 4 specification above without paying an obscene amount. The monitor market at the moment is quite expensive with the release of the 30 series Nvidia cards. 4k 120hz is now a reality. This monitor is $700 MSRP but you will be hard press to find it at that price new. I have gone from 1440p 144hz(TN Panel) to this monitor and the difference is night and day. Once you go 4k, you don't go back. TN panels have good response times but you can achieve similar response times with IPS panels and have drastically improved color accuracy and image quality. The games I've been playing feel like they've had a new life breathed into them.
There are 3 different variants for the Acer Predator XB273K: Pbmiphzx, Sbmiprzx, and Gpbmiipprzx. Pbmiphzx is the original with an actual G-Sync module. Sbmiprzx is a refresh of the Pbmiphzx also with a G-Sync module. Gpbmiipprzx(this monitor) is a cheaper variant with the only difference being it lacks a G-Sync module but uses freesync technology to be G-Sync compatible.
At the moment, this monitor is about $800 compared to its counterpart model Sbmiprzx which is about $1200 on Amazon. The difference? This monitor is G-Sync compatible while the Sbmiprzx model has an actual G-Sync module. G-Sync is a Nvidia branded technology that uses a variable refresh rate to prevent tearing in your image. Do a bit of research on G-Sync and you will experience a tear-free experience with a G-Sync module or G-Sync compatible monitor. With my current settings, I haven't experienced a single tear with a wide variety of games on this monitor. If G-Sync's primary goal is to get rid of screen tearing, well you can achieve that with this cheaper model no problem. There are no major discernible differences between the two models besides that. If a dedicated G-Sync module is worth $400 more to you, be my guest.
-I gave brightness 1 star because it's *way* too bright! I turned down the brightness and contrast to zero and it was still bright. This probably contributes to the aforementioned light bleed.
-Frame rate is liquid smooth. I wasn't able to get the 144Hz mode working regularly but it doesn't look all that different from 120Hz
-I have two NVidia cards. You'd think that G-sync and SLI, being both NVidia technologies, would play nice together. It was hit-and-miss. You may need to disable one or the other when playing certain games.
-The stand is well built and easily adjustable. Stays where you put it.
Verdict: I got this monitor on sale with a gift card. I've seen it on Amazon for $1100. It's not worth that much. Wait for a sale.
Top reviews from other countries
- 4K 120Hz
- Great colour profile
- Nice accessibility options (blue light, light sensor etc.)
- Decent pivot and movement abilities
Cons:
- A lot of the menu configurations don't seem to save after a 'reboot'. Things like the Light Sensor only work properly when first applied, otherwise they don't work at all until you 'reapply' it. Other features like ASM never seem to save to any profile
- The stand tends to stick out way too much (and in length wise, not appearance)
- 144Hz is only achievable by sacrificing some quality
This monitor, for the price it was selling for was honestly a very sweet deal. To get 4K 120Hz baseline really opens up a whole new door to gaming experiences. Didn't bother trying out 144Hz mode as that does require you to sacrifice some quality (and not that many games can run at 144 fps anyway), but tbh didn't really feel like much was missed
My main issue did come from the menu panel settings. A lot of them just didn't seem to save no matter what I tried, which proved to be annoying because some settings like Light Sensor, which greatly help manage the brightness, had to be reapplied each time I wanted it to actually work.
The price sure is right too. Though some will find paying $1000 Canadian dollars for a monitor too steep, it's way cheaper than other 4k 144hz monitors on the market. While still high in price, it's quite a deal when you consider other monitors of larger size can go for over two thousand bucks or more.
Oh, I should point out that the 144hz only works with two DisplayPort cables and even than, you need to sacrifice some quality to achieve it by turning off Gsync and other modes. I heard that this can be overcome by doing some Bios trickery but I opted not to do that and stuck with a single DP cable instead. The only drawback is that it's now 120hz but I hardly notice the difference anyways and now the other modes don't have to be turned off.
All in all, I was happy with my purchase, and I would recommend it for my fellow gaming enthusiasts who have some cash to burn.
This monitor is in the ballpark of most mid-range 1440p monitors. Why not push it to 4K at 144Hz?
I was underwhelmed by people bashing this monitor. I went from top of the line FHD 27" 240Hz.
To have 4x the pixel density, maintain the screen size and a difference in Hz the average person can't pick up - where is the catch?
The HDR. The way the HDR grading standard is layed out places this monitor at the very bottom at 400, rightfully so. However, with NVIDIA's control panel you can essentially tune out this monitor's very minor HDR issues.
Do not be discouraged by this being the only thing people can pick apart. The legs stand out a tad more, but makers like Alienware and Acer have very sturdy bases for this reason as well as the "Gaming" aesthetic.
For the price, what you get, and what you'd have to pay to get into HDR1000 or TrueBlack territory, buy it! You will not be dissapointed.

This is an older model of Acer which is why the price is so high, there are newer models that are cheaper, because 4k monitors have started to come down in price, this is old stock.
I personally don't like the picture quality, it feels like a 2k monitor to me compared to my other 4k monitors. This monitor has HDR support, but it forces the brightness to be 100% all the time when the Windows HDR option is enabled, so I just use the HDR from the monitor settings and that's better than the Windows setting, so it's not optimized for the Windows HDR setting.
BE ADVISED when using only 1 display cable, you have to use the 2nd display port, as it's designed to need both display ports for 144hz, DP 2 with one cable allows for 120hz.
I got this monitor to try it out. I got it used for 60-70% off the price and it was the real deal, no dead pixels, everything was fine with it aside from some scratches that aren't noticeable when in use. It's not even that bad dude.
