I ordered the used, very good collectable condition. Got exactly what I expected, the very old version from the 90s that has the awesome bankers tray! New ones dont have that. My tray and money was worn out so this replaced those perfect...board was playable, just stained but that was stated in the description and was totally fine with me because i really just needed the tray and $ to fit in my old box. Plus it came with a newer bag of tokens and dice so that was a bonus.

The board itself had the same light brown splotch staining. Even the property cards had some stain. The staining could have been mold but I could not tell. The game was gross and totally unusable.

I loved this game as a child, so now that my kids are getting old enough I decided to get it for them. I ordered the basic version, but after just two rounds playing it's become clear that something is lacking. In my old version as a youngster the board folded once, in half. This new version folds twice. In addition, they've changed out the actual $ dollar signs to an M with a line through it for monopoly money. I love this game for teaching kids how to count money quickly, so this change is somewhat bothersome to me, but not a big deal. But the real kicker is the fact that the much shorter box, while still much longer than the board itself, does not give adequate room for a proper 'bank tray' with slots so that you can lay each of the denominations of money out and store them separately. Instead of separate slots for each type of money there are five slots total, which includes the slot for the storage of the houses/hotels/tokens. The slots aren't even flat so you have the option of storing the tokens elsewhere and only having ONE set of bills that needs to be tidied before every game. There are one or two risers (And the number seems almost random) in each of the slots. My best guess is that these are meant so you can stand the bills on their sides, but the risers aren't high enough to hold them securely, nor low enough that you can ignore their presence. They are really just a nuisance. So after the game is over when you put your money back, it gets scattered during the storage and removal, and each time you have to go through and painstakingly separate each of the types of bills. The net result is that this extends the set up time of a game that already takes several minutes to set up before you even begin play it. The twice folded board also puts another crease through, and one side is completely cut, so the side is in two separate 'wings'. They lay together nicely, but it just makes the board seem cheaper than it used to be. The cardboard is also less rigid than it once was.

All in all, this is a wonderful game--which is why this review gets four stars. However the changes that Parker Brothers have made, presumably to try to save cost of shipping and storage, has served to cheapen the set and make it more difficult to play and store. I'd happily pay for another set to get the longer slimmer box, the proper bank tray, and not to have to deal with a board that's already cut with three kids.
