I am an owner of the first huawei watch and I felt that it was the best of the first generation Android wear watches. I love that thing and still do. It was still purring along but I had been thinking about getting a new one and handing the old one down to my son. I saw a good price on the watch 2 and got it.
I've only had it for less than 24 hrs but this feels just like my old baby. I still love it. Now, I've read a lot of reviews that criticize huawei going away from the elegant look of the watch 1 and going with the sportier look of the watch 2. I've seen some reviews saying that huawei tried to pack too much into this watch. Maybe some of that is true. All personal opinion. Just don't be afraid to get it.
The screen is smaller. There's no doubt. But is it too small? No... It appears even smaller because of the thicker bezel compared to the watch 1. But to be honest, it doesn't really bother me.
The watch is on the bigger side and hence I wouldn't think that many women would want this. That being said my wife who is 5 feet tall and slim said it's not all that big and she's considering it.
I compare this 2nd gen watch to the first generation by saying to think of a dressy citizen watch compared to a casio sports watch. Only for looks though. Sure the 2nd gen is more plastic like but I think that goes with the sporty idea. (I was corrected... It's made of a high end ceramic material that's found in high end watches. It just looks plastic but will perform much much better)
I still would have preferred huawei stick with a style like the original. That would have worked great if they released one of each style.
Android pay is pretty neat. But one miss... And I'm still exploring this feature... U need to have lockscreen on for android pay to work. OK that makes sense that u need some security on the watch for android pay to work but I feel that security should be tied to the program only. Something that shows up only when accessing Android pay. Not a general lockscreen that makes you unlock the watch almost every time you look at it.
Update... I didn't use android pay for quite a while because the lockscreen function became so annoying. I was unlocking almost every time to get my messages etc. So I stopped. Recently I decided to try it again and I was very pleased to find out that the lockscreen function has been modified and is much much better. I still haven't figured out exactly what the pattern is. I think it's one unlock while on Ur wrist and it'll stay unlocked until you take it off?? I worked a 12 hr day today and I don't remember unlocking except first thing this morning. Then I took it off and I had to unlock it. I can definitely live with that. Wouldn't mind if it locked every 4 hrs or so. Just not every single time.
I'm reviewing the watch and not Android wear. I think the lockscreen thing is an operating system miss, not a watch miss. The watch is solid. It's not perfect by any means. I like the bezel idea from the Samsung gear and the spinning button idea from here lg watch. But overall, this is a very good smartwatch that gives me most of what I want.
I charged it full last night, set it up and played with it and left it sitting overnight. It's going on almost 24 hrs off charger and it's at 42%. That's one thing that they did well... Bump up the size of the battery. I was always amazed at how that small battery in the watch 1 could last all day easily. Now with a battery that's like 40% higher in capacity... 2 days of regular usage isn't out of the possibility.
If you are in the market for a smartwatch, huawei has put out some lovely pieces. Don't forget about the first one. It's still out there and it's only a year old. The processor, memory and battery isn't as good as the watch 2 but the watch 1 kicks butt for style. And that's probably why my wife will end up getting one of the watch 1's.
I've personally never been an LG fan when it comes to phones and smartwatches. I've known a few people who owned the g4 and watched as that one died a miserable demise. I just don't get good vibes about their products. This is my opinion and why I didn't go with the lg watch sport or style. Maybe their urbane 2 watch will be better.
Samsung makes a good watch but given that they only recently opened up the ability of those wearables to work with all phones I'm still a little leary about their line. It works best with Samsung phones. I'm also not sure about their own proprietary watch software Tizen OS. And that's one of the big reasons I didn't go with them. Samsung to me goes overboard with flooding the market with products that tie you to there other products. They seem to like that control. So I avoid them when I can.
So there you have my thoughts about the smartwatch market. Or a brief summary of it and why I came to get the next generation of the huawei watch. It's all about your expectations and needs in the watch. If u want total standalone function with network capabilities, samsung or lg then. But if Ur looking for something that works when connected to a phone and has some functions as a standalone unit, then huawei watch 2 it is.

I use a Huawei GX8 to replace my old iPhone 5 for quite a while and finally decide to try its smart watch. (Pass the first generation because of the size and weight). To be frank, I am a little bit skeptical about smart watches at the beginning when most key functions are depended on the cellphone -it seems overkill for people to keep so many devices around. For regulator user only need a watch with some extra features, it make sense now because many brands start to make smart watch with build-in GPS and data.The package arrived on time last Friday. I got change to open it on the following Sunday. I have to say Huawei's package is still looks and feels cheap. I guess Huawei spend most of its efforts on the technical aspect of the product. They can done much better job giving the price and position of the product. (I think Apple set the standard for simple and elegant package)The product itself is not bad. The body of the watch looks precise and practical. From distant, it looks like a traditional watch. Surprisingly, it is pretty light. Even it is not nimble, I still feel comfortable with it on my wrist. The watch strap design is ingenious. It has two layers: outside leather like and inside rubber. This contraption allows both a stylish look and a comfortable feeling while exercising cause the rubber is sweat proof.The initiation and orientation of the watch is simple and smooth. Typical android wear operation. I try to wake the google assistant and good map navigation. The processing speed is not bad. And I can download app in the watch directly and it can work independently from a phone. One plus is the display quality, the view angle is pretty wide and the color is good. Giving the size of the screen I think it is good enough. The time display can be on all the time, not like my friend’s apple watch, which you have to wake up the watch by gesture. This is a plus to me, but not sure how much more battery it will use in such mode. (You can turn it off in energy saving mode). The battery performance is still unknown to me. Huawei claims the battery can last more than 20 days if you switch to "watch mode" (only show the time and date). Anyway, I already get use to charging my phone every day, it doesn’t matter to charge another device at the same time :) My thought is that this second generation Huawei watch is a better product than the first generation to my personal need. The practical design make it looks like a normal watch to some angle with some latest features you will expect from a smart watch like continuous heart rate tracking, standalone GPS and scientific running coach(VO2 Max, HR ranges and recovery time advice).This review tends to be my initial impression, I believe there are more features to explore.Pros:1. Light weight & decent build quality2. Build-in GPS for outdoor track without connection to phone3. Decent processing speed and display qualityCons:1. Cheap packaging (giving its price range)2.
