I would really recommend this as a gift if you have a teenager who's into the entertainment arts (comics, gaming, and animation) as well as her other book, "Draw What You Love." I believe these would make great academic standards, as her content is explained clearly, concisely, and with plenty of visual instruction. The teaching style isnt your standard "draw this. Now draw this." but rather, she explains the why and how of technical methods, with practical application.
On top of that, the quality of the physical book itself makes for an excellent gift. It's got a velvety cover with paper half dust cover that makes for a gorgeous coffee table piece. Again, all the same can be said and even more about her other book, "Draw What You Love" and together, they're everything you'll ever need to know to get a start in a professional art career, or to enhance your hobby.

I do like this book, but it wasn't what I was expecting. The Name listed on Amazon as "100+ drawing exercises..." just isn't true. It's got lots of tips, techniques, and advice but I might call them, at best, tutorials as there are no actual exercises or calls to action within this book. It's not the book's fault, within the book it does not claim to have drawing exercises - just techniques.
This is a good book for people who are just starting out or are curious about what it's like being a pro artist - but doesn't provide much for anyone who might already be a good artist, or are working professionally. I bought this book as an art teacher and curious about the 'exercises' but, unfortunately, there are no exercises. I'll hold onto this book, I like the advice, I like the art, I like the examples, I like the artist... but it doesn't have any exercises in it.
Amazon: the word exercises implies that there are assignments and/or projects that an artist can do that follow a certain guideline or activity to improve their work. At best this is informative but it definitely does not include any call to action.
Other than that, the books contents look great. It is stuffed full of information and lovely illustrations. Do buy if you're learning to draw or just like to flip through art books 😁
I think my favorite part about this book is that the artist doesn’t immediately dive in to teaching you how to draw heads and faces ( as she notes in her book, a lot of people have a hard time getting past the head and face). I’ve personally had this problem and she really helped me get passed this but encouraging readers to look at the big picture stuff.
I’m officially a huge fan. I wish she had more books because I’d buy them in a heartbeat!
