I bought Pro Tools 7... Didn't include iLock licence dongle. As I became "sort of" comfortable? All my plug-ins started crapping out. Then EVERYBODY had their hand out to reactivate. I bailed... A few years later, I bought into the "industry standard" hype and bought it a SECOND time. (we're up to $1200 folks) -This time it was P.T.9 with a free upgrade to 10, and picked up a Mac, y'know... Because they too are the "BEST" for anything artistic. So now I'm trying to figure out both of these new worlds, and I decide "Well heck, I've come THIS FAR... Guess I'll take a 2 day crash course (another $800) and after ALL THESE YEARS & B.S.? Went back to Windows Because every time Mac OS updated, PT lost functions and wouldn't help me unless I buy a SERVICE PLAN.OK, I could go on... I'll own my part in this mess, Shoulda-coulda-woulda done things better. However? I've paid my dues & received nothing but bills, stress & most importantly - Lost valuable creative time. So this isn't a review to bash Avid as much as it's a PLEA to the newbie who's contemplating a recording software purchase:TRY ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE PROTOOLS!! It's like joining the Mafia- Once you're IN? It's impossible to get out alive. (BTW? I'm sending this via the federal witness relocation program!) GOOD LUCK!
I get that Avid can be an annoying company to deal with. I lost my iLok once and it was a moderate pain to deal with them though in the end it all turned out fine. I also agree that the whole iLok thing is annoying and that Pro Tools can is on the expensive side and can be frustrating at times. I even gave up on it for a couple of years when they briefly went to a subscription only model. Having said all that, it is still an extremely powerful product and nothing I've found touches it when I'm trying to stitch together multiple takes into one master.
All these one star rage reviews are at best unfair and more than a little suspicious.
This is the 2011 version. But don’t panic. Quality is in the ear of the listener. With this version, you don’t have to deal with ilok, you don’t have to update anything. You don’t have AVID making things impossible because their old version was “Pre user-scam”. You can use it on ANY computer (using a DISK DRIVE). You’re gonna have to use a CD Rom if you plan on having any progress with recording nowadays. Avid has designed their new software AGAINST the everyday musician. IT WAS TOO EASY FOR MUSICIANS TO MAKE MUSIC THE WAY IT WAS. Now the new version, Like, Eminem wouldn’t be able to use the NEW Protools. It’s too complicated.
You’d have to be an expert in the studio industry with years of recording under your belt for this app but it’s the industry standard and to talk to a pro tools representative you’ll have to pay, cash or they just sideline you. Good luck!
Product would not activate, customer and tech support was terrible, could not get no help, returned it and went with another pr product who did offer better customer support.
Claramente decía al comprar: “Avid Pro Tools 12 Tarjeta de descarga del profesional con Upgrade (+ ILOK)” Pero nunca mandaron el ILOK!!! Qué debo hacer?

I have been using Protools since the time of Digidesign. Protools become unusable after OS X upgrades. Avid want to sell expensive upgrades instead of making Protools usable on new OS X at reasonable cost. My Protools 9 is not usable on recent OS X. Upgrading to newer versions also makes many plugins unusable. I will stay Protools 11 and not willing to get newer versions. The followings are Facebook comments on Avid's advertisement of upgrades, which is usually $200. I agree them.
David Abbott - it's still a $200 penalty for letting the upgrade plan expire. Nope. Avid, do you realize that the reason so many people are upset here is because we WANT to use pro tools? We are your user base and we know how much other DAWs cost to use and upgrade. With every draconian money-centric tactic, you push us further towards switching to your competitors.
Just do the right thing. Charge an annual upgrade fee, fine. We get that you need to make money and we are willing to support you if you would show us you care about keeping our business.
How can you show us? - stop with the crippleware, already. - Give globally functional features equivalent to Logic (a DAW which we can switch to for the same cost as reupping with your upgrade program). - if you want people to upgrade, make the upgrades irresistible due to improved features. Again, the only reason any of us are writing is because we hope you will somehow come to your senses and realize we are keeping YOU in business, not the other way around. We want to support you. Help us help you.
Ryan Neville - I own protools 9 and won't upgrade to anything else. I run OS X 10.8.5 and that is where I am staying. A lot of my plugins will not work on higher OS X and honestly, I started using Cubase 6 and upgraded to 8 and I love it. I think it's better than Protools.
Terry Michaels - I am running Protools 12.5 and will NOT pay one cent for an upgrade until such time as Avid completely fixes the AAE-9173 error issue, and I'm not the only one having this problem
Richard Wirsing - how bout letting me use my older plug ins ill never change from 10 till i can use my plug ins. and dont get me started on el capitan and the non support of 10. FU. i record just fine with your older platform.
