Product Description
The Kurutoga Has A Core Rotation Mechanism That Continually Rotates The Pencil Lead As You Write. A Spring-Loaded Clutch Twists The Lead Incrementally Every Time You Lift The Pencil From The Paper. This Allows A Uniform Wearing Of The Lead So That It Always Remains Pointed. This Is Great For Students! It Gives You An Amazingly Thin Line. In Effect, You Use Only 50% Of The Lead Area That You Were Previously Using With Your Old Mechanical Pencil. In Addition, This New Kurutoga Is Equipped With A Pipe Slide System. The Lead Is Difficult To Break As You Write, Due To The Innovative Mechanism. When The Core Is Reduced, The Pipe Gets Shorter At The Same Time. The Guide Pipe Protects The Entire Length Of The Lead. Because There'S No Lead Breakage, Your Papers Remain Clean Without Smudges From Broken Lead Dust.

I only have two complaints about this product:
1. The rotation mechanism requires a certain amount of vertical pressure to activate. I tend to do a lot of my lettering from a lower angle (pencil at ~ 45º relative to writing surface instead of 90º). This means I'm not activating the rotation mechanism when I hold my pencil like this.
2. The pencil would feel nicer with a bit more weight.
Despite those two complaints, I'm still giving 5 stars. I understand there are limitations to the rotating mechanism and I'm fine with them, especially for the price. Additionally, I'm aware that there is another model at a (slightly) higher price point that has a metal and heavy plastic body that would satisfy my weight complaint.
Another note: the lead retracts ever so slightly into the body as you write in order to activate the rotation mechanism. The slight slack in the pencil took me a while to get used to, but now that I'm used to it, I don't notice it anymore.
Otherwise, this pencil rocks. It's a powerhouse for the price and functions exactly as intended. The clear window to see the mechanism is helpful to see if you're writing at the correct angle to engage the mechanism; plus, it looks awesome. The included lead and eraser are smooth and feel high quality. My lead is always sharp and my handwriting looks much more consistent than ever before. I would definitely recommend this pencil or another in the Kuru Toga product line.
It was a slight adjustment when I first wrote with it because it contains a very minor spring/spongy feeling at the pencil tip (required for the pencil rotation to activate). It's noticeable, but something that I quickly got used to and stopped noticing.
Lead comment, the pencil is only half of what's needed to write with. Make sure you get a nice lead to go with a nicer pencil. I recommend Pentel Ain Stein lead. It's not too much more costly than store bought lead, but well worth it.
My only gripe with this pencil so far is how cheap it 'feels' in my hand. It's too light for my personal liking and the material feels like it could bend or break if dropped. I'm sure it's sturdier than it feels. But the material feels so cheap to hold. But it's something I can get passed due to it's amazing writing ability.
I fixed the issue. I’m not sure what was going on but unscrewing everything and rescrewing it back again worked like a charm. Been using this thing a good few months now, it is a beautiful lovely beast!
I liked this mechanical pencil a lot at first. It was comfortable to hold, I didn’t have to keep rotating the pen to get clear lines, and it didn’t push out too much lead. For some reason though, it stopped pushing lead yesterday. I don’t understand why though. I only fed it lead from the top hole and even then, I only used one piece but it just didn’t like that I suppose. Lasted me less than a month so kind of a waste to be honest.
My only complaint is the eraser, the cap is difficult to pull off and the eraser does not sit up high enough. I normally have a separate eraser with me while writing, so this is not much of a issue for me, but may be an issue for those to prefer to keep their writing equipment trimmed down.
The best of both worlds!
