Product Description
A T-Ring is one of the first accessories you will need if you want to take pictures through a telescope or spotting scope. If you have a Nikon SLR or DSLR camera body, the Celestron Nikon T-Ring is the one for you. In order to use the Nikon T-Ring, remove the lens from your camera, and attach the T-Ring in its place, just as you would if you were mounting a lens. The telescope side of the T-Ring has threads that will accept a variety of camera adapters, including the Celestron T-Adapter or Tele-Extender. The adapter you choose depends on the type of photography you wish to do. You can take pictures of terrestrial and/or celestial scenes by using a simple T-Adapter to turn your telescope or spotting scope into a large telephoto lens. The #93633-A T-Adapter is the best choice if you own a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with standard rear cell threads. If you have a refractor, the Universal T-Adapter (#93625), with its 1-1/4” barrel insert, is available. There are also special T-Adapters for the EdgeHD optical system: one for the 8-inch EdgeHD (#93644) and one for the 9.25, 11, and 14-inch EdgeHD (#93646). Prime focus photography is popular for short exposure images of terrestrial objects as well as celestial objects like the Moon. If you need extra magnification beyond that which your Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope provides, a Tele-Extender (#93643) will allow you to insert an eyepiece inside the barrel before attaching it to the telescope. A Tele-Extender is used most often for high power images of the Moon and the planets.

It snaps directly into my Nikon D80 with ease, and "feels" exactly the same as snapping in my fancy / expensive lenses. It did not require any extra pressure to snap in, and in no way did I feel like it didn't fit perfectly (some of the other reviewers seemed to have some issues with the fit). It even locks into place exactly like my normal lenses (to release you press the little lens release button on the camera body, just like a normal lense).
I have an 8" Celestron telescope, and all I needed to do to take pictures was get this item (t-ring), plus the t-ring adapter (sold on Amazon as the Celestron 93625 Universal 1.25-inch Camera T-Adapter) than screws into this item, and the other end goes in the telescope (instead the usual eyepiece). So just get the T-adapter and T-ring and you'll be in business!
In summary, this items is made well and fits perfectly ... exactly as it should. Highly recommended!
Attaches to the camera like you would any lens, then screw in the t adaptor and a attach to the telescope. Everything seems to hold securely too.
Only negative is the price. Seems a bit high for a little metal ring, but at least it's a nice piece of metal.
Only bad thing is it doesn’t index well. It threads onto a tube on the telescope okay but attaching to the camera it’s easy to twist past its indexing detent. No solid “click” into place so you kind of have to baby it.
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2021
The camera is connected like this: telescope <- T-adapter <- T-ring <- camera. The T-adapter either threads onto or slides into the telescope, the T-ring threads onto the T-adapter, and then the T-ring is attached to the Nikon camera body. The T-ring connects to the camera body exactly the same way as a standard F-mount lens.
Caution: This T-ring has confusing markings which can lead to a risky connection. There is usually a dot on lenses that the user aligns with a dot on the camera body before rotating the lens to secure it to the body. This T-ring has 3 dots on it, and only one of them is the correct one. The correct one has an additional small white dot next to it. Trying to use any of the other dots for alignment can result in an insecure fit (which could result in the camera detaching unexpectedly from the T-ring). Using the right dot led to the T-ring clicking into place for a secure fit on Nikon D90 and D5300 bodies.
